I'm liking this series but I'm confused.....why do you keep drawing two lines then using the rectangle to close them in instead of just creating a rectangle from the start?? Thanks!

Because there are many ways to do things in Fusion360. But his way is definitely not the most straightforward one. Just draw a rectangle from the origin and dimension it...

Any ideas on why my fusion 360 does not seem to be inferencing? When my son who works in Fusion often tried my version he couldn't get it to inference as well.

Thanks Justin! For those having problems inferencing around the 5 minute mark, change your preferences as follows: Preferences > General > Design: "Auto project edges on reference" ON. Thanks to others who pointed this out. Posting here in the hopes that folks may see it sooner.

Thanks for making this series. I'm a life-long woodworker and I've been designing all my projects and furniture pieces in SketchUp for years. I recently decided I needed a better 3D tool for making my models for 3D printing and decided to start using Fusion 360. I'm really impressed with the power and ease of putting real detail into the models. I am blown away with the create drawing functionality. It is nice that you have created examples/tutorials specific to woodworking. I noticed that the mirrored side and back had the wood grain running orthogonal to the long axis. Can I control that?

@@TheFusionEssentials Hi Justin, so I`m new to fusion 360 and I was following exactly what you were doing, but at 5:36 when I try to align my line to the same point you did, it just simply doesn`t work, that reference line doesn`t show up... can you please help me? I'm trying to learn (and love) 360. One consistent issue I have is trying to sketch or modify solids and use existing features from other elements as snap points. For some things, like drawing a line, it works. For other things, like Make Rectangular Pattern, it doesn't. Any tips?

I am struggling with the same. When I want to draw the sketch for the second board (5:40) I am missing most of the reference points from the previous sketch. I have re-drawn it many times, but I am not understanding where the issue lies.

Great Videos. I have run into a problem in this wood box. At 10:33, after you mirror the sides, there are gaps; so, you go to the timeline and right click on 'Sketch 3' and select 'edit sketch'. They you drew some lines on the profile to fill the holes and trimmed what you don't want and then Finish sketch. All good so far. You went back to the timeline and went to 'Extrude 1'. When you hovered over it, the side board turned blue. When I do this, nothing happens anywhere on my model. No blue polygons. If I select 'edit feature', I get taken to what looks like the sketch not the board face. The Edit feature box states for Profile - missing profiles whereas yours states '1 selected'. I went through this a few times with the same result and watched your video over and over again. I don't know if there is something different in the Fusion 360 that is out now (2022) or is it something I have done and not aware of what it is? Any ideas? Thanks.
@janegimpelj3155
@janegimpelj3155 3 жыл бұрын
Figured it out after starting from the beginning. After mirroring the sides, I had the gaps that were in the video. You then edited the sketch to add the sections to fill the gaps. I added the lines that you show in the video and I again could not add the sections to extrude. I then went back in the edit sketch and closed the lines on the inner side. Now I can add the 2 new sections to the extrude. For some reason, in the video, there looks like there are gaps in the inner lines. They should be closed. At least in the Fusion I am using (2022).

Can dimension lines be added to an object while in the solids phase of a design or just in the drawing view? I'm coming from the sketchup world where this was so easy but in F360 it seem difficult.

Quick Question while following along I noticed that my version of Fusion 360 automatically adjusted the mirror where the drawing was incorrect to the correct reference for the pieces to fit together. Is this happening because my software is set up that way? Because I have noticed subtle differences between the way the drawings on the video and my drawings turn out little things are different or missing.

First off I would like to say thank you so much for your tutorials on fusion 360. Just in 2 videos, I went from not knowing how to draw a line to drawing out the main part of my project. I am having a bit of trouble though. I am currently designing a drawer system for the back of my Off-road SUV and I have a question and perhaps it might be an idea for a video. As I said I have made the main box but what I would like to ask is: - When designing the drawer to go inside the box, do I design it as a "New Design"? And if so, would I be able to import it to the main drawing? - For using the sliders, there are special sliders that I have in mind. Would you know if there are options to import those sliders to the drawings or would I have to design something like them? I am trying to design something like this gentleman did for this Toyota 4runner but for my GMC Yukon. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqSpdmBrq9SFiNE Any help would be appreciated. Maybe if you are interested, perhaps we could do a collaboration? Again thank you for these formidable videos. Stay Safe and all the best. Tim...

I love how you create the different features of your box while assuming that your viewers already understand how you're doing it, without stepping through it. "Just start a new sketch, and start at 1.5 mm up".

I understood this but it wasn't great for less skilled woodworkers or cad learning. A better title would be; modeling a drawer (or carcass) with box joints. Since this is for woodworkers, please use correct terminology for parts. As a Fusion beginner, but not at drawing parts, there are easier ways to do this with a basic understanding of the software. It would also be useful to start off with a display of the finished product.
