That was a case of the mom going into protective mode. She damn well ran the numbers in her head and forgoed victory to save her son's reputation. If she didn't, there would have been a hard cut. While he fixed his blunder. It was a rookie mistake honestly and I'm sure "off camera" she tore him a new one.

The majority of workers in the kitchen are men, it's honestly really difficult for a women to advance in the industry unless she has many leadership qualities, those women are highly valued. Restaurant industry is cut-throat, no one gives you their respect and if you want any respect you have to speak up or you can happily be paid minimum wage and make good food.

Chef hands go through a lot, you're hands are pretty tough especially after burning it on a pan and having to still work through the rush as a newbie. Pasta should be only on a small boil, you want to bring it to al dente and finish in the oven. The real reason is he's more of a man than us.
