To be fair, SnS can be classified as a support weapon then since they're the best for using the armor skill Wide Range. On top of that, it can be argued that causing a monster to become weakened from your actions is a form of support, therefor any weapon that specializes in status effects is a support weapon. The real reason people hate the term is because of newcomers just staying away and playing songs (corner horning) because that's the impression they get from the term.

I know the ideal fight with the insect glave is supposed to be on the ground but I've always found the air fights to be far better off with far better results. 1- You're not tripping your allies or being tripped by your allies. 2- You're able to focus parts of the targets better than chasing them on the ground 3- You can dodge some nasty ground level attacks by simply not being on the ground. Bazel bombs, tremors, ground covered in poison or lava. 4- You can escape from a monster's more easily if you're airborne Sure, you're not getting the ideal damage but I've found that I've been able to attack more frequently, for longer.
@Snotnarok5 жыл бұрын
@Hollow Shell I explained why, in detail why I think it's a legit way to fight. I never said it's more efficient with damage, I said it's a perfectly fine way to fight with plenty of positives. So. . . what are you talking about?
@Snotnarok5 жыл бұрын
@Hollow Shell Hollow, I really have no idea what the point of your comment is. I laid out a pretty detailed reason why I aerial IG works and I never stated in any capacity that it's more damage dealing than ground based. So, I'm aware of what you're saying but I never said that, I never disagreed with the results of the video so.... I'm asking again, what are you on about? Why are you commenting on something I never said?
@Snotnarok5 жыл бұрын
@Hollow Shell For the third time, I never made that claim. I don't know why you're being defensive over something I literally never said and you can check, by re-reading the initial comment. But, either way have a great night and hope you find a better discussion elsewhere :)
@Snotnarok5 жыл бұрын
@Hollow Shell I'm fine with discussing, but as I've said now, 4 times? That I've never said it was more DPS efficient. I never have. You can keep making that claim but the OP never said that. There are advantages OTHER than DPS, imagine that. That's why I'm really not interested in discussing. You're arguing I said it's better with DPS, no, I said it has has other advantages and I very, plainly, stated them. There's no words to mix here. And I've spent the last few comments saying I never said that. So other than repeating the exact same thing, I don't know what there is to discuss other than "I never said it does more DPS, so please stop saying I did." The air allows for better dodging of many moves and effects a monster might have. It allows you to avoid terrain problems such as different heights of terrain, lava, and even toads. Also, as I already stated, you're less likely to be tripped or trip allies when in the air. The results, certainly CAN be better with scoring more hits if the monster is flying or perhaps you're aiming for a specific target that's out of range on the ground if you're trying to break something. That doesn't remain a constant because the monster is always moving and not always flying and in different situations. So taking advantage of the skills and decorations that benefit the ground will 9/10 lead to more DPS- which to really drill in I've never said any different. You can evade better given the rage of jumps and your flurry. It also will let mount the monster. To restate my point, firmly is that there are plenty of advantages to being airborne and it's up to the user and the situation to suss out what is the best to do.OR if you're just interested in what's fun, or what you're more comfortable with, go with that. So, I again say I have no idea what your point is. I said flight has it's advantages and it does. DPS is not the be-all-end all of how a style can be better. I'm not being blown up by bazel bombs when going flight, or being tripped by a long sword user. But if the monster is on it's side and stunned, duh, save your stamina and cut it's tail. Can we be done? Or are you going to suggest something else I never said and then demand a discussion about that?
@Snotnarok5 жыл бұрын
@Hollow Shell You: "Snotnarok yes it’s perfectly viable. And of course if you like playing that way go ahead. I’m just saying if you care about dps or playing efficiently that’s not the way to play. That’s what I’m talking about" You literally say DPS and efficiency in the same sentence so if you didn't mean it wasn't more DPS efficient, what did you mean? Because there's nothing else I see here other than "you're wrong Aerial is not more DPS efficient" Which I never said, not once. I said other advantages, it's been helpful in OTHER situations. But you can't seem to accept this. You: "Snotnarok you’re still trying to have it both ways. I never said that you said being in the air is better for dps. You just went one step above and said “the results are far better in the air”. You didn’t make any specifics, you just made a sweeping statement that “the results are far better in the air” which isn’t true. Now go ahead and say “for the x time I didn’t say etc”. You’re the one defending something I didn’t say. You’ve literally contradicted yourself trying to cover your " What am I trying to have both ways? Please do tell me both specific things I'm trying to have because I've already looked through my comments and have never said it's better DPS and I've listed specific situations where I have enjoyed better results in the air, one of which being fun. So, I'm not sure how much more specific you want me to be it's already been two very long comments you haven't seemed to read. You: "Snotnarok just let me go ahead and make this more clear for you. You said “aerial glaive has better results” then I said “no it doesn’t have better results”" Yes it does. I've already listed the situations I have found the aerial style to help me and if it doesn't aide you then that's fine, it's called having different play styles. -avoiding being tripped, tripping your allies -avoiding monster hazards -avoiding area hazards -lets you mount monsters easier than most other weapons with out terrain help -attacking specific parts of a monster you have difficulty reaching -detonating blast puffs created by your kinsect that are higher up -Can let you attack a monster, for longer given it lets you avoid hazards. -attacking flying enemies (If you don't have flashpods or they've become immune or you don't feel like wasting them on an easy monster) Those are perfectly good examples and if that doesn't work for you, that's fine. Works for me and that's all that matters when I'm playing a game. I have already stated several times you get more damage on the ground because it's not even disputable- BUT, there's MORE to combat than just DPS, like the above things. And for a nice big part that I'd like to highlight is that the insect glave's the ONLY weapon to have this ability of leaping into the air with no hills/cliffs and having full on combos. So, if you're not going to take advantage of some of the perks or at the VERY LEAST take to the air for some ...ya know, FUN, then why not play any of the other weapons since you're insisting on nailing yourself to the ground. Why bother with the IG if you're going to ignore it's unique selling point and just slice everything's ankles like ALL other weapons. Can we be done now? Is this enough detail? Have I repeated myself enough that you finally get it? As I said I'm all for meaningful discussions but you're asking me to constantly repeat myself while you insist I've said things that you can clearly see that I haven't! When the discussion is me having to despiute things I never said when you can just scroll up yourself instead of wasting our time it's not a discussion. You're not adding any specifics to why you think aerial has no advantages- and I've already stated, how many times now that ground will do more dps? My point is aerial has advantages but if you're gonna be short sighted and focus only on dps and not survive-ability and other hazards with some monsters then why even have the discussion? You're not even discussing the topic, you're just going after me and demanding I explain myself which I've done three times while you don't explain a thing you've said. Just play the game the way you want to, I'm not sitting here telling you how to play and I'm not about to listen to you when you don't seem to even think about what you're typing. Have a great day man, I'm done repeating myself.

As an SnS main, I agree with the SnS assesment on how its reach is pretty bad but on the damage ceiling part, the beauty of it is the very fast attack speed and that you're surpirsingly very hard to hit if you use the falling shield bash combo which means less time healing which means more time DPS's-ing. Also, the falling shield bash combo does great damage where 1 combo (if all the hits connect) does almost the same damage as a fully charged lvl 1 GS attack, add to the fact that it's super quick to pull off, you have a DPS that can hold its own.
@jono90416 жыл бұрын

Another thing of note is the sword and shield can perform aerial/mounting attacks easily while also being able to guard. It can also do cutting damage with the sword and KO damage with shield attacks. It also has a fast multi hit combo that can buildup status really quickly but it also has a heavy hitting combo that conserves sharpness. Sword and shield is the most versatile weapon in the game and no matter what you are trying to do or whatever status you are trying to cause the sword and shield can hold its own and contribute to the buildup.

to add info for the Switch Axe. it's playstyle relies on being very aggressive and requiring good positioning as well as maintaining your sword meter. If you run out of meter you will automatically switch back to axe mode in a lengthy animation. While you are using Axe mode your sword meter will recharge. Dealing dps with the switch axe involves you building up this amped state that you reach by attacking while in sword mode while maintaining the sword mode's meter by switching back and forth between axe and sword mode. When in an amped state you can discharge your weapon into the monster. This will continuously deal small amounts of damage if you continue pressing the attack button until it detonates for big damage. However one should only use this if your amped state is about to run out (seen by the icon flashing red) or if the monster starts to run away. attacks you should take note of: axe mode triangle plus circle/ Y+B (this has good vertical reach for when a monster's head or tail is above you) Circle into R2/RT (the transition attack into sword mode from this particular attack deals a very high amount of damage. this should be used to switch back to sword mode for high damage numbers. With proper positioning it's possible to use this attack as a wake up attack option for a sleeping monster although the spacing is difficult) sword mode: triangle plus circle/Y+B (this is your weapon discharge. it will deal a very high amount of damage when it detonates however it is lengthy if you continue to press traingle/y. Downside is that after using this attack is you will be stuck in a long recovery animation and knocked back. it will also take alot of sharpness from your weapon. Should really only be used when your amped state is about to run out)

Dealing 500 dmg over 5 second per ONE hit or dealing 50 dmg each per 10 hits in 5 seconds, which is 500 too, is really the same. Its not about raw damage, its about the "dps". A 500 dmg hit per 5 s is only 100 dps. A 50 dmg hit per 0.5s is also 100 dps. The real question is - what do you need. High speed coupled with low dmg. Or slow speed with insane dmg. And that depends on the monster. On how much openings you have. Or how mobile the monster is. If its gonna run laps around you, then go for high dmg, slow speed. Hit it good every once in a while, since it will approach you only once in a while. Having a low dmg high speed weapon makes no sense for this scenario. If you only get 1-2 hits max before it distances itself, then you deal no dmg basically. So for any melee class, at least master two weapons, one of each: slow & hard hitting and fast & weak hitting.

Perhaps you don't know but the main use for it was to play the trap-master in older generations. You can basically throw a flash while having your weapon out, lay down traps (with the "trapmaster" ability, very quickly), etc. In MH Generations, if you picked aerial and also equipped the ability "rodeo master", that would lead to lots of arial dmg which then led to mounts. So, you could basically trap the monster constantly with a rotation of: flash -> trap -> mount For the sns you have two choices: paralyze (obvious & preferred) and sleep. And if you picked a sleep sns, that would lead to 1-2 sleeps depending on the duration of the fight. Then you could sleep bomb that thing. I have one loadout for this in MHG and MHGU where I can paralyze the monster for the entire duration of the fight. If you bring 3 HBG players, this is also called a "hame" run in japanese, hame literally meaning "fucking". This is how you rape monsters in MH!
@ProcyonDei3 жыл бұрын
With the Charge Blade, you use your attacks to charge up your phials (it's just a meter) and once your phials are full you perform a special move to store the charges, doing so will grant your attacks more damage in the form of elemental damage (I've personally found the charge blade to be a nice 'all around' weapon and is easier to use than it seems). Also with the Heavy Bowgun, you can equip modification to enhance it, and one of said modifications is a shield to compensate for the slower movement.

As a Switchaxe main with a Charge Blade best friend, permit me the arrogance of filling in my opinion to the blanks you left on them: The Switchaxe is similar to the Greatsword, but if you traded in your ability to block for more explosive power and movement. As an axe, it's really just a longer reaching Greatsword with faster combos that can't block. However, in sword mode, you move much faster and can pull off many flashy combos and moves that deal massive damage. Also, you can sidestep in both forms in addition to rolling. The Charge Blade, to me, seems like a Sword and Shield that chooses power and range over mobility. Both can block, but whereas Charge Blade is slower to move and can't consume items, it does have a mode with far superior range and, like the Switchaxe, flashy moves with a heavy impact. I find it a bit too technical for my tastes, but the basic concept isn't too complex. In reality, I think it's best to fiddle around with any weapon you're attracted to and decide for yourself if it feels right. For instance, you may like fast weapons over slow, but that doesn't guarantee you'll choose the Dual Blades over the Insect Glaive, as you may prefer one moveset over the other. Really it just comes down to whatever weapon with which you have the most fun!

I play IG because I can't figure out how to play anything else. With everything else I'm just chasing , dodging, drinking, flinching, staggering, dodging, chasing, drinking with occasional attacking - or more attacking and occasional carting. With IG im almost constantly attacking, even when dodging and that is fun and feels good. How anyone can do that with a hammer or switch axe is beyond me.
@Keyzo__4 жыл бұрын
grmasdfII I agree, IG seems so much different from other weapons, and I use it as my main weapon, without jumping into the air every second and being stuck on the ground it’s really hard to play other weapons, especially because IG fells so powerful when the monster can’t hit you at all.

I've been playing Monster Hunter since the start (I was roughly 11 when the first one came out) & the way I saw it, choosing a weapon that best fits your playstyle also depends on what monster you plan on hunting. Until the charge blade was introduced, the long sword & hammer were my go-to weapons. If I was hunting a monster that was fast & moved around a lot, I'd use the long sword. If I was hunting a monster that was huge & (mostly) stationary, I'd use the hammer. Instead of being the best at just 1 weapon, you should learn how to be skilled with multiple weapons.

I currently have over 150 hours on insect glaive and imo I believe that spending about 50% of your time in the air providing mounting damage is better for both solo and group play than providing a slightly higher damage output on the ground. Getting a knockdown can provide a far bigger damage boost than getting a combo off on the ground. I could be playing glaive completely wrong but this has been successful for me thusfar.

Charge blade is easily the most technical weapon. You have to charge your phials which you can then charge into your shield, then you have to charge again to fill you phials again, but you have to be careful not to overheat your weapon or your attacks will bounce. To counteract this, you can charge your blade but only after your shield is charged... etc, etc.

Something to mention, albeit late, is that Sword&Shield can also do KO damage through the charge attack by pressing B in the air and does more damage than the normal airborne attack. Also it has a lot of repositioning since it can extend combos by simply changing direction in the middle of one. The charge as seen jumps backwards so it can also be used to counter attack like with the Longsword

Dunno about Switch Axe but Charge Blade is a technical and difficult weapon that has massive animation times, leaving you open for a lot of attacks, but drops a massive damage payload when utilized properly. Mastery of the weapon involves learning the technical aspects of its attacks, as well as its positioning moves, and learning everything the shield can do, such as Guard Points. They also have a lot of build options thanks to the Phial differences, so you’ll find many different ways to accomplish a task on Charge Blade. It’s a weapon for people who play the game enough to learn it, or for people who just want to one-trick a weapon.
@bloody45586 жыл бұрын
Switch axes are also pretty technical and has it's fair shares of slow animations and obligatory multihits that leave you open to attacks. Charge blades deserve a little buff I feel(not in the damage department, they have enough of that), It simply has way too many requirements for it's burst combos which can be a bit counter intuitive. I was originally planning to main Charge Blades(in the Melee department, since my main is still the Switch Axe), but I switched to Switch Axe because it requires less steps for a similar result. YOu pretty much need to charge the energy fill the vials and execute the right combo in order to further strenghten those vials, and only then consume them for one of the strongest bursts I've ever seen in this game. It's powerful but it gets old quite fast(at least to me). The main difference between Charge Blade and Switch Axes is that Charge blades are more of a burst damage weapon and switch axes are more sustained damage + decent mobility(you can cancel some attacks into side dashes to evade while never leaving the offensive). Charge Blades is more similar to Great Swords and Lances, kind of a mix of both. You have fast poking in the sword and shield mode, and longer ranges and absurdly strong burst but slow animations in axe mode. Switch Axes however closely resemble Long Swords and double swords(or maybe hammers since they lack a double swords insanely fast mobility)
@apathy24546 жыл бұрын
The hammer is awesome. Cool designs, Simple move set, powerful, and nice decent mobility very strong jump attacks and you can also reposition yourself with 1 of its jump attacks. The slide spin attack is so bad ass. you just have to have skill because of its short range. You can get some shit of mounts with hammer too.

I've plowed through the game with Dual Blades. I'd like to add that when you actually go into "deep flow" of attack, stamina becomes irrelevant. Going through chopping loop combo with occasional spining combo to move away from the monster's attack or to next weak spot, you keep up the damage even at 0 stamina. It's been a blast using these, though lack of immidiate large damage often makes battles last longer than with other weapon types. Thank god there are Mega Bombs in this game.
@mackstertube6 жыл бұрын
Tip. You don't need to go into that does menu to craft so for light bowgun. You can set it up on your radial menu and just quickly craft all you need in mere seconds. It would not let that turn you off. Like a lot of the game, knowing how to take advantage of a faster way or the systems charges things dramatically
@aowa97275 жыл бұрын
Not talking about how Light bowgun is the fatest weapon to apply status (multiples status in the same hunt) ,having great mobility and crazy fast Sheathing speed making it the best support weapon in the game. You can buff your teamsmates attack and defenses Sleep(bomb) a monster,trapping it ,paralysing it, Ko-ing it in a row , and you can do that again a second time if you want to. You can also heal your team mates without any armor skill ,with weapon sheathed. While being better than Heavy bowgun at dealing elemental damages due to Rapid shots. It's nice mentioning Heavy bowgun explosive ammo while "forgeting" that you can literaly shoot explosive mines with the Light bowgun

Right now I'm fiddling with the heavy bowgun but I was wondering: Out of all the weapons which ones would probably be best for "hit and run" get in, get out tactics? I know the lance/shield is all about standing your ground and poking, but what about if I just want to run in and out and never stick too long in the danger zone?
@mertin78936 жыл бұрын
For that I like to use GS with skills like Crit Draw, Focus, and Quick Sheath as a base, while adding other atk/crit boosting skills. You still have to position right and know the monster timings, but you'd be surprised how effective at hit and run the GS is with the Focus/Quick Sheath combo. Then again, this is just personal taste, and your mileage on trying this may vary.

very late, but here's how to learn most weapons by yourself. greatsword: never overcharge, tackle is more or less a counter move, any touch with your big ass chunk of iron is good enough damages, always default to sheathing your weapon in combat (and use environment). longsword: raise your gauge, do a R2/RT combo to raise your level, repeat. you can dodge anything with the counter move, even roars. just play and play, it's intuitive to learn. sword and shield: don't concern yourself over how much damages you deal, hit the thing, try all your moves, play and play you get better. dual blades: don't spam the demon flury, goal is to stay up and hitting as fast and constantly as possible. spiny dash can climb walls, start slope glides and ledge jumps. hunting horn: you're now a chad, a jedi and a wizard... so: "use the force harry" lance: stay up close and personnal, abuse the parry move, have fun. gunlance: look at big number, love big number, do big number again. and block things to get openings switch axe: first spam the axe moveset and wait for openings to use sword moveset. when you get comfy with both, try to mix in switch attacks on any very small opportunity. get more comfy. charge blade: read the pdf. because you love reading pdf, or you wouldn't have picked that weapon. insect glaive: always get all three buffs from the insect, don't spam the aerial move that bounce you up, it deal no damage or mount, only for repositioning and throwing a good downward attack before fighting again on ground. heavy and light bowgun: no fucking clue, i never tried those bow: even more intensive than the dual blades. use every single stamina helping skill or consumable that you can, you'll have load of fun.
@sharkmanz39513 жыл бұрын
I'm an insect glaive main and ill say your explanation was good but when you said "you need three buffs" you don't need all three a good strategy is to take 2 buffs (make sure red is always included as it increases your general DPS through adding more moves to combos and increasing attack speed kinda like duel blades) and take your third right before the current two expire as this resets the timer you'd really only use aerial attacks for mount damage (excluding evade reasons) but yes I would agree with the fact the glaive is one of the most if not the most technical weapons in monster hunter. I'm pretty absent minded and ignorant at times if I missed anything about the IG please point them out
