Lmao, man, I always love your pick of intro music, they're always hitting the mood. I reckon the best overland vehicle for any person is one that they can afford without putting them in any debt. Of course there's usually the better go to options but keeping within your fiscally responsible budget should be top priority. Old jeep Cherokees are also a solid choice besides Chevy for lower budget.

The music sets the vibe!! I definitely agree. If I could’ve afforded it, I’d be driving a 4th Gen V8 Limited 4Runner but they’re too expensive!! I don’t regret getting the XC though!

Funny. I have dealers ask me every time I go into a dealership to get parts , they always ask me if I’m ready to trade it in. I smile and just say you couldn’t afford it. Mine is 2001 Tahoe LS with 5.3 votes and I see me being laid to rest in her. Been the most faithful thing ever besides my 71 Camaro SS.

Daniel, I am in nearly the exact same boat as you right now. I was gifted an ‘04 LS 2wd from my Aunt (due to poor health) last year and have slowly been replacing parts on it! So far she’s got new tires, brakes and rotors, oil gauge sensor, front shocks, power steering fluid, synthetic oil and I have put many hours of cleaning the interior. It’s got 192k and it still drives like a dream. In the near future I will be doing the trans and differential fluid, ball joints, rear shocks, and fixing the front seat motor. I am actually kind of glad it’s not 4wd so I don’t have to deal with maintaining that system. I really do love this vehicle, it’s the perfect camping car for me and my family. It also needs a flowmaster exhaust but I don’t know which one I am gonna go with yet.

2005 Tahoe. If the interior ever goes dead, follow the parking brake release cable and you may find it leaning against a black box in a galvanized bracket. Move the cable away and everything will work again.

One thing you gotta love about these vehicles is the amount of luxury and comfort you can get for cheap, while having the rugged look and offroad capability. They were built reliable back then and not financial dumpsters, something that is no longer seen from today's car manufacturerers. Sadly most of these have either been trashed or become rust buckets, they'd probably go extinct before their value could even go up.

You can load this thing up with stuff and it will just crawl up the smallest roads like a goat, provided off course you have a decent AT tire like Bridgestones. BTW, I saw someone in the comments saying they had one that needed a transmission. Something like I learned while researching my purchase is that you never want to tow with the 4L60E transmission in overdrive, it's a quick way to destroy one. I'm glad I saw that because I plan on doing some towing, so I'll take it seriously.

Excellent trucks. But they’re not real off-roaders. “Overlanding” is what they can do. Any real trails you’re going to get in trouble quick, but it’ll have zero issue taking you out in the boonies on some light moderate trails/Terrian. The reason is, this body style uses torsion bars, they’re wide, and heavy. Coil spring front suspension is much better.

@@BernonCars It's all cool stuff & comfy. But classics we know now as classics are that because their reliability is amazing when taking care because of what will fail can be repaired very easy. 90's & early 2000's are my favorites as Daily Driver. Comfy, safe & everything that is "new tech" & electrical stuff helps really safety, driving etc. & is somehow still able to been repaired. Newer vehicles are just Smartphones on 4 wheels & less a vehicle, so the quality. Also some stuff on the new car breaks that git nothing to do with driving & still won't start or drive because somehow connected to other electrical crap, also the whole emissions stuff etc. Those Tahoe's are somehow the best Daily Drivers. Even for me here in Germany with our huge taxes an high displacement taxes with bad emissions & also our high gas prices (even California would be cheap for me now). But the reliability is amazing, parts cheap even with the import & easy to maintain. Don't need to care where I want to drive, what weather comes around anywhere in Germany, heck whole Europe, probably the whole Eurasian Continent with the right tires 😅 In my first years drove some german manufacturers till I was open minded enough & don't believed those commercials & Fanboy talking anymore. Also loved some japanese vehicles but once I experienced a great V8 I was doneski. Like a f'ing drug 🤣 Still love my '93 SportSide C1500 but will sell it & also the '00 Camaro with the Buick V6. Just want to keep the Tahoe & looking forward for an 4th gen Catfish Camaro again but as Z28 or SS & manual transmission. Just for the summer & fun times & the Thaoe as Daily. I just hope they don't go to crazy with the taxes & gas prices over hear or I'm forced to a small 4 banger engine again or Hybrid or whatever.

Good video, amazing trucks. What you said about BDS the company is true but, you can't wear out leveling keys my man. Probably just need some good shocks.

The Eaton G80 is OK, not foolproof. My Silverado 2500HD 4X4 & GM use them as standard equipment for slippery roads, steep hills and deep ruts where one tire will lose traction. Sometimes in real mud you have gone too far under once the other side kicks in to help. For those situations nothing short of a full locker and grabby tires will do. Everyone wants a lift and big tires today. It is just the look. Like bellbottoms were in the 70s disco days. Big tires stress the whole suspension system and axles. Lifts stress drive shafts and steering. Companies make big bucks selling double tough replacement parts because you will need them. Try peddling fat oversize tires on a bicycle and you will learn quickly why they don't come that way. But surfer beach boardwalk ones do. Fortunately GMs were engineered to last, so generally take the extra stress, if you don't always mash your right foot. If you are serious about off road travel here is an old guy clue. In the Sierra Nevada mountains near Yosemite where I live I have pulled a couple of Dick Cepek and Rancho city built beauties out with an old 50s Dodge 4x4 1/2 ton. Reason being wide tires are great for looks and sand, but they want to 'float' over terrain. And once bogged down they float and spin. In slippery/ broken dirt, deep snow & mud they make life worse. Thin and tall will get you as far back as you can go. All they way into 'no one can help you' territory. I know it is not sexy, but they will do much better in the wet and sloppy stuff. Just put together a narrow off-road tire and simple steel wheel package to slap on for your safari trips into the wilderness. WWII jeeps came that way and they worked everywhere. They also stress the suspension parts and bearings less. PS: please do not attempt to make a Silverado/ Tahoe/ Suburban/ Denali into a rock crawler. Short of thousands of dollars and a lot of modifications you will get very frustrated.

Great vid on the truck! I'm in the market for one for future overlanding! I think they are underappreciated but I guess this keeps the prices lower... They definitely are not the most advanced or exciting overlanders but they sure are capable! One honest question though... Can you fit a 4x8 plywood in the back? I'd love to use this as an all-rounder vehicle! Thanks in advance!

Thank you! One of these would definitely be a good choice. I’m honestly not sure about the plywood actually!

I own an 03 tahoe. Z71, gt5 rpo code (4.10s) and the g80 locker. I have 285/70r17s on a 1.25 inch rear and 2 inch front lift. And it has more clearance than yours does. But like you said, rough country [sucks]. Ps driving in auto4, you can burn up the np246 tcase clutches.

If anyone wants tips on how to extend the suspension travel of a gmt800 coil sprung suv, here's how: moog 81069 springs (1.25 inches taller than factory), bilstien 5100 extended travel shocks front and rear, and you can settle with maxing the torsion bar keys all the way out for height or getting aftermarket keys for extra height but you'll need to get high caster upper control arms and extended shocks up front. Again, the bilstien 5100s are amazing on mine. Rides factory with 33s and I can cruise down trails and be comfy

Here's a test to everyone's electrical knowledge. 2005 Tahoe. New battery. Starter is good. Turn the key and everything comes on, but the starter doesn't turn over. Try connecting a wire from the 87 pin on the relay to the positive on the battery with the key in the run position and nothing. Tried it for hours. Put the key in the on position and tried to straighten the wheel but it wouldn't turn, and I tried it one more time and it started right up. Parked it with a straight wheel, shut it off but it wouldn't turn over. Wiggled the wheel and it still wouldn't turn over. The ground at the back of the engine "Feels" tight but couldn't climb back there to check for sure. Anybody experience something like this?

I had a similar issue with mine. Starter tested good but was weak compared to a new one. Replaced the starter and all has been good. I had a similar issue with fuel pump. Was intermittent issue untill i replaced it with a new one. Just cause it test good dont mean that its legit. It can be slowly going bad.

Not really. The 5.3 started with oil consumption because of valve control (you know, when you cruise it disables some cylinders etc. People with this problem or not wanting to occur disable it in a shop) & also People in general complain about the 3rd Gen Tahoe. Not as good of reliability like 2nd Gen (often considered "built like tanks" when well maintained & taking care of) with more smaller & bigger issues occurring over the time. For my taste all the common issue on the 2nd Gen are worth fixing it. Even if the Transmission should fail, because of the amount of money you put in & won't get such an good SUV. Just invest more when buying to get a well maintained & "rust free" one & your good. When it comes to 3rd Gen you have more to depend on luck instead of well maintained etc.
