Project x. That game had a belting soundtrack. Me and my brother became deadly at the game. Ploughed 100 plus hours into it. And super off road. Bloody love the amiga. Best years of my gaming life.

All 10 of these games look like they are lots of fun. I honestly think this is one of the best videos you've ever made, Gemma. The way you've presented it feels like we're on a journey through the games with you. And your enthusiasm really shines through. Excellent stuff

Glad you liked some of my recommendations (amongst many others who recommended the games you've featured here). Apidya is one of the all time greats. I also thoroughly recommend Simulcra, Zeewulf, Zeewulf 2, Apprentice and Fury of The Furries.

Great video, saw a few games I wasn't familiar with. Really liked Stormlord. I'm from the US and it's awesome how big the Amiga was in the UK and Germany. Much bigger there than here. Which means countries like yours had a very vibrant Amiga scene. In the US it was a little more of a niche market. You have a nice voice, very pleasant to listen to so I like hearing you talk about all things Amiga and retro and I dig your enthusiasm. Also I love the UK, and love British people!

Battle Squadron is so great. The music and gameplay are fantastic. I remember (eventually) being able to complete it really easily when I was a kid but the underground levels kicks my old arse now.

I was lucky enough to own an Amiga back in the early 90s (we didn't own a megadrive or snes) and on your list definitely my favourite is Fire and Ice. I still have the floppy disk copy but I remember as a child spending many Saturday afternoons playing that game!

Great vid as always Gemma!! Battle Squadron and Apidya are stone cold Amiga classics, from a wonderful golden era in gaming!! Have you ever heard of or played Kid Chaos? It's a pretty top notch platform game that's a bit different than others, and quite fast too in a Sonic sort of way!! It's from the creators of the Lotus games Shaun Southern and Andrew Morris, so you get awesome graphics and top notch coding too, and the game is pretty fun to play!! Some of my fave shoot 'em ups are Silkworm and SWIV (Silkworm's sequel) but you may have already covered those!! If you want a really totally and utterly bonkers game, that makes you feel like you're on a mad acid trip, try Top Banana...it'll crack you up too i'm sure!! 😀

Yeah. “McDonaldland” is a must play and has better music on the Amiga than any other platform. Also “shufflepuck cafe” is very strange and easily addictive.

I never could understand the desire to play as bugs in a shoot'em up. Nothing wrong with the game. Back in the day I played all of these games, but the only ones I would gladly play again are Toki and Jumping Jack'son. Cool video, thanks for sharing.

Great video! Some of my favourite Amiga shooters! I had them all back in the day - Apidya is the highlight: the later levels get pretty insane - they throw in every technical trick in the Amiga playbook and it looks amazing. Another suggestion: Uridium 2 - an Amiga masterpiece, particularly the later levels.... Urgent question: Battle Squadron and Fire & Ice have corrupted graphics in this video. Is this a problem with the Amiga 500 Mini? If so, I'm afraid that's a deal-breaker for me and I won't be buying one. No way I'm playing Amiga games if the graphics are corrupted.

I purchased my A1200 in the Autumn of 1992 along with my first ever Amiga game... Project X! Absolutely solid game - I made it to level 3 but no further. Project X Special Edition bundled with the A500 Mini is much more forgiving and enjoyable to play. Love Apidya (especially the music) and Battle Squadron - I had the iPad version which worked really well on touch-screen. Sadly it's been removed from the app store and from my purchase history by Apple. 😠

i really wonder what qualifies as a "hidden gem" by your definition. apparently it must be something very well known, even loved, by many, highly regarded, famous even... maybe "hidden" got a new meaning i am not aware of, like "great", "best loved", "most known" or something similar:) anyways good taste you have, a really nice selection of great miggy games and im sure these are the most famous hidden gems you'll ever find in a youtube video :D ps: check out Metal Law if you dont know it already. its a fantastic little console-style game from the only "real japanese game" developers on the miggy, kaiko:) plus apparently it was designed a real real japanese person.

Apidya was one of my favourite shooters, original, great fun to play and an amazing soundtrack. Its a mystery how this game was never ported. Fire and ice was also excellent but your copy seems to be running badly (you probably know) as you shouldn't have all of that distortion. One last one, Project X had a special edition a year or so later that was better and slightly easier. Cheers Gemma, great video.

Apidya music is quality, its a great game. X-copy was a superb software but as far as i am aware you could only copy 'cracked' games, so what i want to know is.... where did all these cracked games come from because a friend of mine used to get them weekly. Back then there was no internet to download so it boggles the mind, i mean tamagotchi's were not even out.
@richtakings33592 жыл бұрын
The modern internet is just that a network interconnected. Before then you could still dial your computer to another computer via modems. TCP/IP has been used by the military since the 60s. Back in the days of the Amiga and even C64 there were BBS (Bulletin Board Systems), you could chat, send messages, download files. Cracked games would be downloaded and then localised distribution would occur via X-Copy.
@ph111hud02 жыл бұрын
@@richtakings3359 interesting, i wonder how long it would take to download a full game of say 3 disks over a 56k modem. Thank you for explaining this to me.

Are you using a pad? The ship movement in Project X looks so cautious and choppy, perhaps, as if the controller might suddenly jump if push a bit too much. You really need a digital controller, I'd say a joystick, for these games. Analog just won't do, especially if it's a pad.

Hybris is one of my favourites, the music and SFX are superb. Katakis is great also. Project X is one of the built in A500 Mini games. As for X Copy, if only we knew as kids that by copying games, and getting them from that older kid with a room full of copies, that we were killing our beloved Amiga! Good times.
@JimHarrisonFilm2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Project X is already on the A500, not sure it why it's in this list. As for piracy, you could argue that it helped the industry in some ways. For example, it was most likely a system seller. I remember asking for an Amiga for Christmas instead of a Mega Drive, simply because I knew I could copy some games. I also had some original games, probably the same amount I would have had for a console.
