But one great perk was, since its has that "mild hybrid" system and its classified as such in the description, i got a tax credit and a "clean pass" sticker from NYS. Meaning i can use the HOV lanes in many states and i dont need a passenger with me.

I read through most of these reviews and those that don't have eTorque are against it and those that do have an eTorque are mostly happy or at least ok with it. We have a 2019 Ram Limited 4x4 with the 3.92 rear with eTorque and use out for towing our 5800# camper. It currently has just over 57000 miles on it and we love it. The start/stop feature works the best over other start/stops, shifting is buttery smooth, and the regenerative braking is really great going down the mountains pulling a camper. No brake job yet, or even looking like it's close and I attribute that to the eTorque regenerative braking for the most part. Also, being a limited with lots of electronics, the 48volt lithium battery powers the truck well without issue. I'm with most on here that believe Ram did this as token compliance to the "overlords" of saving the planet by fossil fuel reductions. Thankfully, there is some merit to this system even if the design was for spurious reasons. The eTorque system is covered by the 8 year emissions warranty so there's that.

This isn’t jarring, it’s fast off the line. It’s by far the best stop / start implementation I’ve seen. Second place and not nearly as perceptible.- Supposedly, it helps keep you in cylinder deactivation mode for a little bit longer and adds gap power in between shifts.

If you read the whole technical manual on it, it shows why. It changes the transmission as well. It can lock up the torque converter with the electic motor start, and get the truck barely moving as it starts the motor. It also does all that as you start to let off the brake. So it feels like a regular running gas motor with automatic starting to creep forward as the brake is released.

I was recently looking at new trucks. Checked out the Ram 1500 and must say they give you nice packages for the money. Researched and found most people are just not getting that good of fuel mileage. I'm on my 3rd F150 with the 2.7 and just love that engine. I don't tow so no real need for the 3.5. If i drive conservative, keeping it out of boost, i can get 24 mpg around town. On the highway doing 65 I'll get 23 roughly depending on head winds and such. I have a friend who had a couple of older 1500 models and he was only getting 14 to 16 in town and 18 on highway. I just can't give up the Ford due to better fuel mileage. I have heard some 1500 owners getting 22 on highway but I've heard more saying they get 16 to 18. It could be sure to the way they drive, i don't know.

I have a RAM 1500 with e-torque and feel the same... I don't see it saving much. Seems like it would when you have "waits" like red lights OR getting food at a drive thru. My fear is failure as it ages without a warranty, if that occurs then you don't save a dime. Think e-torque was more about checking a box for government regulations rather than a selling a useful feature for your customers shopping for a new truck. I'm hoping for someone to come out with a delete kit one day, I can see doing that rather than fixing if it goes bad. I agree with others that it's very smooth vs. others I've been in. I do hate it when stopping then backing up into a parking spot... I find the pause I typically have shifting gears is just enough for it to turn off and right back on. Same crap happens with the moving into park... truck shuts off due to stopping and you shift into park for it to just start back up.
@vandenbossm5395 ай бұрын
The e-torque makes a much bigger difference in fuel economy over the course of a full tank of gas. It also shines when you are in an area like mine that has long red lights. I do primarily city driving and have tried disabling the stop/start for a couple tanks, I consistently get 2-3 mpg better with the stop/start on than with it off. You notice it alot more over longer periods when you are doing alot of city driving. Of course the stop/start system serves no benefit when you are doing primarily highway driving. I have the 5.7 hemi.

It's probably been close to 20 years ago. Ford was working on a transmission fluid accumulator that was mounted to the frame rail. It accumulated transmission pump pressure at cruise, then it would release at first gear take off from a stop. The additional fluid capacity also kept fluid temperatures down. Pretty much E Torque, but more F Torque. Thanks for the great video as always.

The only thing Ive really had to get used to is when coming up on a stop light or a traffic stop or something similar and im coasting into the situation, its like the regenerative braking and the input from my foot on the brake pedal are kind of fighting eachother trying to decide which one is going to do the majority of the braking. Its strange…im getting used to it but its definitely a quirk of this system.

They aren't fighting with each other. It's how regenerative braking works. You apply braking at the pedal. That tells the computer to convert some of the torque (deceleration) into energy to give to the battery pack. If you turn off the eTorque start/stop feature, you won't get that "fight" feeling. You simply feeling the power conversion process.

We traded a 2019 jeep renegade for my 2020 renegade, mostly because we needed a pickup worse and my wife has a lot of pain issues from a lifetime of diabetes and the seats in a renegade are just super uncomfortable on anything but a quick jog into town. That's said, I recently( last week) took her to her specialist appt almost 400 miles from home. Understand I get irritated easily and tend to stomp the peddle to get around idiots that try and play games on the interstate. Going there, the truck averaged 20.5 mpg, coming back we had a very strong headwind and that fell to 18.5 mpg. That's exactly 1 mpg on average, less than the little underpowered renegade. I'll take that any day of the week. It's capable of over 12'000 lbs of towing capacity, find another 1500 capable of that. Even the new high powered dual turbo V6 they are coming out with only does a little shy of 10'000 lbs. After my 2004, I am an everlasting fan of the 5.7 hemi, and the etorque has done nothing but pound home that impression. Understand I am not a fan of battery powered vehicles. Electric vehicles, yes, but not the batteries. But this truck has impressed me a few times now. My only gripe is the sound system totally sucks, and I hate how they paid out the power window buttons on the driver's door, I'm constantly rolling the back window down because they put them too far forward, they did the same stupid layout in the renegade as well. So, is the etorque worth it? I personally, knowing what I know now, would be willing to pay a little more for it. I dunno the new price difference, but if it wasn't a big spread, I would have opted for the etorque.

Here is my real world take for someone who's owned both a 2019 RAM quad cab Hemi and current a 2019 RAM crew cab V6 e torque. Both trucks are Bighorn trim levels. The hemi truck was more a baseline Bighorn and the V6 truck is a fully loaded bighorn (only option is lacks is the Hemi). The Hemi truck got better fuel economy all around. 18 city 21 hwy. Towing i would drop to around 15. The V6 model i have done mostly hwy driving commuting and i can get it to go higher than 17 hwy. But the reliability over the Hemi is worth it IMO.

I have one with a 5.7 Hemi. I keep the auto start/stop disabled. I never saw any fuel advantage with auto start/stop enabled. Never noticed any torque advantage. Unneeded complication that will be expensive to fix.

So………..regarding my observation, I just did 32000 km, 50% with the trailer attached, …………..so it should give me a good indication to compare to my previous’16, I base it my fuel usage and it definitely has improved, but again, this is just my observation, I’m happy with it 😊

But isn't etorque good at least for the Hemi since it greatly cuts down on idle time? Could save the lifters in the long run.

I currently have a Ram with the E-torque and when I coming to a stop it’s weird I hate it because the truck shuts off because I’ve stopped completely. It’s usually already off by the time I’m as 2-3mph. It does nothing for fuel economy my 07 GMC 2500 with the 6.0 gets the same if not better fuel economy

@jainsw10 ай бұрын
@@2lopezd it should make a big difference at least in how it operates. My fuel mileage is pretty good with about 21 mph on the road and about 16.7 in city. Towing our camper it depends on how fast I drive. Anything over 60mph is going to be under 10mpg, but if I can keep it under 60 it can be as high as 11.4mpg. We live in the mountains so there's that, but what I've noticed is it gets better mileage there than in the Texas wind pulling the camper. I hope your recall fixes the issue and you can enjoy the benefits.

I just bought a 2024 Longhorn with 5.7 hemi and etorque. Would have preferred No etorque and 2WD but no dealership had any. So far I’ve only driven it home after sale but I will disable the Start/Stop every time I get in, just like I always have with my car that has the silly feature. I think we all can ‘thank’ the US EPA for all the things we hate about recent vehicle changes. The reason I chose to buy now was, 2024 is the last year for the naturally aspirated V8 in a Ram 1500 truck.

I purchased a new 2019 Rebel with the V8 eTorque and it was nothing but problems. At 10k miles it needed a new engine, a month later a new transmission. 10K miles after that another new engine. I sued FCA under the Lemon Law and they agreed to buy it back plus a significant amount in additional damages. My truck sat on the dealer lot for 6 months during all these lengthy repairs. As far as MPG, my lifetime at 33k miles when I turned it in to FCA was only 12.5 mpg. I loved the styling, air suspension and power but otherwise it was a nightmare and I'm now happily driving a fully loaded 2024 Chevrolet Trail Boss paid for in full by FCA.

I have a 2019 Laramie 5.7 no etorque and I have a 2024 ram rebel with etorque and the 2024 wastes more gas, has less power and torque than the 2019 Laramie. We only get better through innovation and trial and error. Looking forward to when we have gasoline over electric vehicles with say 100 miles of battery only range. Basically the new ram hybrid battery truck. Works for everyone and you reduce the wear on the engine and only need to maintenance it when you are using it for those longer trips.

We call our 2023 E-torque a E-turd. With only 20K miles on it, it has been in the shop 3 times. A week after purchase we lost a 48v battery pack, then two times with the hemi tic issues. Our previous pickups (Ram 1500 5.7 liter were a dream). Now thinking around 100K miles thinking about the battery replacement cost of around $8,000.00 plus labor. Only if we knew this at purchase, we would have not purchased the E-torque.

At half a wheel turn, I think the only real situation you'll see a major benefit to eTorque is hauling loads in a heavy stop/start environment. You can see their logic -- you use the most gas when trying to first build momentum. But I'm not sure how much comperable "heavy traffic hauling" it would take to get a tangible result though. Seems like something contractors or lawn service folks would be interested in.

What’s the actual mpg improvement? Sounds like maybe a .5 mpg increase, city only. Is that worth the increased cost and complexity? There is only enough energy in that battery to accelerate the truck to 60 mph but that’s not how it’s used, it’s only used to smooth out stop/start and gear changes. It makes sense for Stelantis, they get EPA brownie points, does it make sense for use consumers?
