Every 12k miles to be safe if you live an a dusty area. K&N filters work well too, just make sure to clean them at least once a year. If you have a turbo engine, the damage can be even worse and you will have issues with sensors clogging up or throwing engine faults at random if the filter gets clogged up.

exactly, it's a very simple maintenance item but just have to stay on top of it to make sure your engine is protected!

I change all my vehicle engine air filters, and the cabin air filters each spring and at the beginning of fall. Just old school. Been doing it for over 60 years. Plus I live in the desert southwest, so it kind of makes it mandatory to do this twice a year. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 6.4, but the air boxes are the same.

great way to do it! nothing wrong with old school!

I was looking into getting the K&N filter, how are they?
@RedNineTeen2 жыл бұрын
@@9-5Golf as far as I can tell the fuel mileage stayed the same for me I avg around 15mpg and the throttle feels just a tad more responsive.. I like K&N because it’s reusable you can clean it and re oil it and it’s good to go

probably save you some money too over the lifetime of the truck

I just purchased a k&n air filter for my challenger rt and ram 1500 3.6, the challenger only sees nice dry days in the summer and the ram I commute with everyday on pavement so I will check them every oil change. I think the key is to check them often and clean and oil when needed.

Mine sorta looks like that but where you have the plastic piece that says air flow, mine is just a hard piece of plastic and doesn't have the clips to open it.

There is no question that you should change your filter, but if it is partially clogged, the engine's computer adjusts for it. This is why a cold air intake without flashing the command module is a waste of time and money.

How often should you change the air filter?
@johanbrand86012 жыл бұрын
Consult your owners manual. Usually its around every twelve thousand miles. Half that amount of miles if always driving in dusty environments, gravel and dirt roads, etc.
@TheGettyAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I give her a peak every oil change (every 2-3 months) and if it looks dirty I'll change it. but this is my fourth air filter for my 2017 ram so about once a year or every 20k (kilometers)
@TheGettyAdventures2 жыл бұрын
@@johanbrand8601 exactly the owners manual is the best thing to follow especially for a truck under warranty. because if something goes wrong you want to show them you are maintaining the truck properly.
@JONESZ4412 жыл бұрын
Do you have to purchase your air filter from a dealership and is an after market okay?
@johanbrand86012 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on your vehicle. I can find all my filters etc. at the local Autozone.
@TheGettyAdventures2 жыл бұрын
You can buy them from the dealer, but they are usually overpriced. you can usually get good aftermarket air filter from your local parts stores. they stock them just like oil filters
