Which makes sense as the (I would argue) 2 main characters of TCW, Ahsoka and Rex, view the Clone Wars as a child would in the beginning. They really don't understand it at all other than as a conflict between a good side and a bad side, and they fight on the good side. As the show goes on, and these two characters grow and mature, their view of the Clone Wars becomes much more muddied and even somewhat cynical, which is exactly how we as the audience see it as well.

In the Cline Wars, you see the American side, where clones (the equivalent of young men who were mostly drafted, or forced into service) were constantly surprise attacked by the umbarans (the equivalent to the Vietcong, or North Vietnamese). There was also the case where general krell got clones to shoot at each other, which is an allegory for real-world friendly-fire/blue-on-blue situations (where soldiers think other allied soldiers are enemies and fire on them, usually leading to the death of any friendly soldiers)

Personally, I've always loved The Clone Wars movie. I acknowledge and agree with most of the flaws of course, nothing is perfect, but to me and many others, it's faaar from trash, faaar from bad and faaar from a disaster. It was a pretty solid movie/series opener, tbh! And to me and many others I'm sure, it was our introduction to Star Wars and I had an absolute blast watching the tv debut of that theatrical movie for the first time. I always make an effort to re-watch it a few times a year, and even as a 21 year old today, I still get the feels for it all over again. The movie feels even more special after having seen the proper series finale we finally got back in May. All that growth, development and adventures that Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Rex and others went through. Ah, man. All in all, I felt TCW movie was a simple, fun and explosive beginning to what would soon after become a masterpiece tv series! At the very least, the entirety of the battle sequences of Christophsis & Teth were absolutely magnificent, both in cinematography and the epic scale of it all, you gotta admit that! I heavily disagree with the direction TCW took with Clone Troopers. It contradicts AOTC by having Clone deserters and traitors because the Kaminoans said that the Clone's genetics were modified to follow the command structure strictly and take orders without question. The old EU expanded and reinforced this by having the main run of the mill clone army be completely strict to the command structure, while clones such as ARC troopers or Clone Commandos weren't as genetically modified as it was needed for their missions to be completed. I don't like the notion of Clones being conflicted with orders. I explained why it contradicts AOTC, and personally, I prefer the Clones being just mindless drones, because they are Clones, meant to serve a purpose in Palpatine's large scale plan to destroy the Jedi.
@thegoldman253 жыл бұрын
very hot take, but I respect it
@jackmcfarlane71733 жыл бұрын
I personally think it makes perfect sense with regards to AOTC. Yes, the clones were bred to follow orders without question, but they aren't droids. They're human beings with the ability to think creatively and adapt to situations--that's the advantage the clones have over the droid army. Plus, I think it makes it that much more heartbreaking that the programming instilled in the clones is used to massacre their comrades during order 66. They may be clones, but each one of them is a human being who was born only to be one of Palpatine's chess pieces--and there's nothing they can do about it unless they know about the chips.

Clone wars didn’t salvage anything. It’s probably my favorite cartoon but I cannot agree that it saved anything George created, Anakin’s character was perfect the way it was all the cw did was make him more of a war hero, maul was perfect before cw all it did was give a reason for the loyalty he had for Palpatine, and the clones were fine the way they were they are an army there’s no reason to flush them out but to be fair clone wars gave me some of my favorite characters “Rex and Echo”.

I’d say they were saved from the perspective of your average person. Before the 08 cartoon you still had clones in the Tartakovsky series with distinct personalities (be it through mostly body language). The comics had standouts like Alpha, who Rex was originally supposed to be. Then you have the entire Republic Commando franchise between the books and game really flesh out clones as people with their own culture and customs. It also helps that Karen Traviss has military and navy experience so there’s actual legitimacy to that aspect of the stories.

The entirety of ROTS, especially order 66 is emotional because of the CW. The only reason people say order 66 is sad because of the music but CW actually makes it sadder. Apparently prequel fans get triggered if they hear CW saved the prequels and considering how they dominate the internet, I appreciate the guts you must have had to make this vid. Oh and btw you're channel is gaining subs pretty fast and I'm loving it.

In my opinion. They got far more respect in Clone Wars then in any other prior Star Wars media. Especially more then those Republic Commando novels. Where the author just made them extensions of her Mandalorians. A bunch of gruff, manly, uber-badasses, who irrationally disparage their Jedi colleagues essentially because "they aren't real soldiers". With little variation. They where just more mouthpices for her to use. The show gave them their own identity and unique characters, explored their perspective. Ultimately adding to the tragedy of the prequals, by showing them being just as much victims of the Sith, as the Jedi, the Republic and even Anakin where.

The Gold Man’s subscriber count will be quite operational by the time the Fandom Nazis catch word of this growing movement. They can’t keep the true fans down forever.

I think the biggest issue with The Clone Wars movie is that they made it into a movie, and it's really not. It's 3 TV episodes spliced together so that it could be sold to us as a new film. I just don't think it measured up to the expectation that comes with being the next Star Wars theatrical release. The Introduction of Ashoka and a plot involving the rescue of Jabba the Hutt's son is an okay plot for TV, but for the plot of a film, it's...not particularly gripping. I mean did anyone seriously care that the son of a crime boss and slave trader went missing? Because I sure didn't. Jabba's an asshole and everyone knows his kid is going to grow up to be an asshole. So there wasn't a whole lot of reason to get emotionally invested in this plot. Still, the film did have a lot of good in it too. The setup for Ahsoka's character is of course important and the film does a good job of establishing her relationship with Anakin and making her character flaws readily apparent so we know where she has room to grow throughout the series. The relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin is great. The humanizing of the Clone Troopers was also great. The content of the Clone Wars movie is far from the best the series would offer, but I also think it's far from awful. There just wasn't enough there to justify making it a movie.

General Grievous was my favorite character till they nerfed the living hell out him and retcon his backstory.
