I drove a Mitsubishi Mirage as a rental about 5 years ago. It did its job. Point A to B, got me to my destination, and very easy on gas. This car is not built for speed or low 0 to 60 times. Understand that this vehicle is basic low cost transportation with minimal frills. This car would do well in a city environment. If this was all the car that I could afford, I would seriously consider it.

SOLID little car! Reliable, and gets you from point A to point B in comfort. Great warranty. That said, it's too bad that Honda discontinued the 'Fit'. That was a great car for the price! We need more affordable (sub $20K) compact/subcompact cars in the USA!

I bought one of these a few weeks ago. 2023 SE trim level. I fell in love with the design as soon as I saw it! I absolutely adore this little car! It handles well on the road, heats up and defrosts the windows very fast (which was helpful for the 0° weather my area got), and rather spacious. Though that might just be me since I'm short. What was also really nice is that it costs only $26 to completely fill up my tank. I downgraded from a 2018 Jeep, which cost $50 to completely fill. With gas prices fluctuating so much, saving that extra cash is definitely a pretty nice point as well. My biggest drawback would definitely be the lack of a remote start though. The option exists for the previous years SE models, just not the 2023 one yet for some bizarre reason.

@samarafujioma6588
@samarafujioma6588 Жыл бұрын
@@Beans4Prez Acceleration is pretty good. It's at it's slowest when you're at a standstill, or slow down and have to pick up speed again. But once it gets past the initial start, it can handle maintaining higher speeds without any issue. I had to drive on the freeway/highway for over two hours right after I bought it. It kept up with traffic, merged, and accelerated past other cars in the passing lane without any problem.

Reviewers are sold the new trend of buying only super turboosted 1000 HP 800 pound of torque 25 feet Escalade with 40 inch wheels. Nothing beyond those specs is worth buying and deserve to be dished out. Reviewers are reviewers. When the trend will be to turbo boosted unicycle, they will jump the bandwagon and forget about the monstrosities that are big SUV's.

I bought this car new in 2015 full options. It has 90.000 on the odometer now and is 7.5 years in service in northwestern Europe. It had not a single defect during that time. Not even a light bulb broke. No rattles, original brake linings, original battery and near zero oil consumption. I changed the generator belt once because is squeeked at cold starts and fixed a leaking roof with some filler. I have one word of caution when buying this car, though. Check the alignment. The production tolerances of the front suspension mounting points are off sometimes AND the production of the rear axle is off sometimes. The front can be adjusted (mine with great difficulty, it was that bad) but the rear axle cannot be aligned. It must be replaced. Mine was fortunately OK.

I have a 2020 RVR Limited Edition (canadian market) which is 1 trim under top of the line, my fiance has a the Mirage GT (which is the same as SE). I was afraid the mirage was going be really slow & a mediocre car BUT DANG was I wrong. Even with less than 80hp, it gets up to highway speeds easily (even with 2 of us) Love all the safety tech (FCM/LDW/auto LED low & Highbeam). Has plenty of storage, I can park in spaces where sedans fear & dread, driving in downtown city streets is amazing. Getting gas for this car is CRAZY CHEAP... I've gotten 4.4L/100km in the Mirage whereas my RVR 2.4L gets 8.5L/100km. This car is a hidden gem in such bad economic times. I thought I would hate it.. right now I love it more than my RVR

I own a 2022 Mirage LE, I bought in September 2022. I love it for the nostalgia it invokes but it drives like an econobox from the 90’s and not it’s great in the snow especially over 3 inches. I live in Michigan within Metro Detroit so speed limits are no more than a mere suggestion. With that in mind merging on highways and major roads are absolutely terrifying. Merging on I-75, I94, I696, M59, and M53, I have to literally floor it through the on ramp and brace myself for dear life since most traffic is drive 80 to 90 mph with 70 mph speed limit. In reality with the aggressive Michigan driving I only get 30 to 39 mpg. The Mirage is a simple car mechanically so it’s cheap to maintain. I had 2016 Jeep Cherokee Sport with Fiat’s 2.4 L Multi Air Engine which is notorious unreliable engine. My Jeep was not that much better in acceleration about 10 seconds for 0-60 mph. My Jeep’s Engine was getting ready to kick the bucket, so I need cheap and reliable. The Mirage checked off those boxes.

Switching off the HVAC for a sec and putting it in Ds mode helps with acceleration and merging, but I rarely have to do that getting onto the freeway. If I put the CC on 70mph I'll net 39mpg, not bad at all.

Loved your review. Loved the Mitsubishi Mirage. Unfortunately here in Australia Mitsubishi Motors Australia have discontinued the Mirage. The sedan version was discontinued only a year after being released. Advertising on the Mirage was none existent so sales were purely on word of mouth. When it was released they did advertise the car but as SUV sales grew the Mirage advertising disappeared. At first there were 3 models in both the hatch and sedan, but after 4 years the range was reduced to 1. This current facelift model was released 2 years ago and I have seen plenty on the road but it is now gone from the range. Mitsubishi Australia now only have SUV’s and a Ute (truck as you call them) left in the range. Saying that, the Ute called a Triton (L200 in Europe) and the Outlander still sell in the top 10 in Australian sales. Me I still own 3 Mitsubishi Lancers and while not wanting an SUV know when I do update it will have to be one of them.

I do love the Mirage because it reminds me of the Geo Metro and other similar basic hatch runabouts, but the current pricing structure for this just does not make sense when a Rio hatchback is in the same territory. Rio is simply a better car in almost all regards for not much more cost. Mirage ES trim is the only trim that makes sense to buy IMO, maybe LE if you must have alloys and fog lights. I was so close to buying one of these pre pandemic, when they could be purchased for around $10-12k brand new. THAT kind of pricing makes this vehicle an extremely compelling offer. Totally agree on the spoiler comment btw. It looks great! Thanks for the review. :)

I couldn't have said it better. I bought a Mirage new in 2014. It was the top spec and cost me $11,900. It was definitely worth it at that price. To get the same equipment level now is about $18k, which is insane to me. This car is not worth it at that price. As you said, there are much better driving cars for barely more money, such as the Kia Rio. It's worth paying a few extra dollars per month to live with a much nicer car. It's a lot faster, has much better handling, tighter steering, and a more spacious interior.

What you say about the Rio may be true but Kia has pulled the plug, so to speak, with this vehicle for 2024. So the Mirage will be the only small car available in the US. The Versa is being phased out also. All this is unfortunate, but true. 😥 ♐

I bought a 2017 manual transmission version for use with uber for 10K OTD and put 150K on it with no problems. The only irritating thing about it was the belt tensioner and belt squeal. I had the belt replaced a few times and you have to adjust the alternator to get the belt tension right. As it got more miles it would squeal at idle. Other than that, it was rock solid reliable. Also, I put larger tires on it than the 14" stock tires, and it ate the mileage gains and I only averaged 38-40 MPG. With the stock narrow wagon wheels I would get 45-50 MPG. The narrow 14" tires were over $100 dollars a piece and they only had two options for these tires, so I bumped them up a bit to get more tire options, but ate some MPG doing that. I was going to buy another one in 2021 but they wanted close to $17k for one and that was a hard pass for me. I went with a used prius for $15k.

I like the look of the Mirage. But I think Mitsubishi made a huge mistake getting rid of the manual. It's more reliable than the Jatco CVT trans., and costs less. Normally a $1600 price jump over the previous year's model wouldn't be a big issue. But on a bargain-priced economy vehicle, it is! I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. Also, why would anyone buy a 76 horsepower Mirage, when they can get a 120 horsepower KIA Rio? (One of the Mirage's biggest competitors. The KIA's 1.6 liter gas engine doesn't have the horrible issues associated with KIA's other 4-cylinder gasoline engines. And, the 2022 Rio comes with Push-button start. Eliminating the theft issue some KIA's suffered from.) And, just like the Mirage, the Rio comes in either sedan or hatchback body styles. Then there's the 122 horsepower engine in the 2023 Nissan Versa sedan. Even the Chevy Spark is pumping out 98 horsepower. I'd honestly be afraid to take the Mirage onto a highway. Especially trying to merge while going down an entrance ramp. This is a city car. Forget those MPG miles on the highway. Yes, the Mirage has some nice styling. But there's no reason to buy one over literally all of its competitors in the class. (Even with the impressive warranty.) Honestly, I'd only buy one if a Mitsubishi dealer offered HUGE incentives. Specifically, price. An LE trim in the low $12K price range, _with_ that excellent warranty, okay. Otherwise, better to save up a handful of more paychecks and get *any* of its competitors.

@@blackwhirlwind1245 Cars like the Mirage and it's competitors are not made for those who can afford a new Corolla or Civic. To them, those vehicles might as well be BMWs, Audi, or Mercedes luxury cars. It's for individuals who can barely scrape by in Life, live paycheck-to-paycheck. Have a horrendously awful job that requires them to be there on time everyday or they'll get fired. They get food stamps even though they work full-time, because they make so little that they still qualify for SNAP benefits. For these car-buyers, the Base trim price of a Mirage is already going to be a huge financial burden. One good thing is that Mitsubishi dealers don't want Mirages taking up space on their lots. The more of them they sell, the more they can demand that Mitsubishi ship them more popular models of other cars to sell on their lot. That's how it works. So, dealers will bend over backwards to get loan approvals for those customers coming in to buy a Mirage. Credit rating in the sewer instead of just in the toilet? They'll still find a way! They WANT you to drive away in that Mirage. These customers need something relatively reliable, and don't want to risk buying a used vehicle and inheriting the last owner's issues. A respected mechanic in my area told me that on average 1 out of 4 individuals actually take care of their vehicles with routine maintenance. The rest drive them until they fall apart. Sadly that's true of Corolla and Civic vehicles too.

I hate to admit it, but I like the Mirage for a cheap economical car. I would drive one if I didn't already have a Toyota Corolla.

If Mitsu would try a little harder with this car. No one is expecting it to turn into a Mazda 3, but just refine that interior a little, a little bigger tires, another 20 horsepower. Yeah, it would raise the price a little, but if Nissan can do way better than that with the Versa for a bit more I don't understand why the Mirage has to be some relic from 30 years ago (basically). There's a need for such new cars in market and its a shame we're limited to just a couple... and one so out of date, slow and crude it would be a hard sell.

Last year I drove my 2020 ES 5 Speed from Florida to Oregon and back and while there were some spots where I had to downshift in Colorado and Wyoming to pull some of the bigger hills but it wasn't any worse than other small cars that I've owned. It did absolutely great on the trip and returned a 43.6 mpg average for the trip with a low of 40.3 mpg in Colorado where not only the mountains played a factor but the speed limit was 80 mph. Running around the Cascades in Oregon I was getting 48 mpg and on the way back I took a different route due to snow and the speed limit was 70 mph which gave me 45 mpg for my return trip. I have found that I consistently get 45-46 mpg running 70 mph and can even top 50 mpg in mixed driving at speeds ranging from 45-60 mph.

I think this is a great car. Cheap, affordable, and great transportation. However, I like more power. I would put the engine and transmission from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. Also, add AWD, upgrade the brakes, suspension, tires and wheels turning a cute 70 horsepower car into a 300 horsepower monster. Oh, lastly the car will need an extreme body kit, spoiler, and exhaust. However, I can't imagine how I would build it because planning and making it would require someone more insane then myself.
@gkauto1959
@gkauto1959 8 ай бұрын
a true 300 horsepower engine would be fun but at the same time too thirsty, you'd lose the mileage and probably the transmission, too, as it would break under the lash of 300 horses, so you'd have to upgrade the transmission and the sensors that go with it. Too bad this isnt the 60's imagine being able to work on a simplified gas engine without fuel defection and the associated hardware.

WTF do you drive? Here in Europe, 405hp is considered a lot by any standards. Here, government is trying to force a law, that fully forbids young drivers to own or drive a car with more than 120hp. Like, I get it, sport car, straight roads, but in no means is 405hp small for a car. Can't even imagine putting this much power down to the road.

@@georgeb5262 wow! 405 hp is considered underpowered by some of my friends and family, my sister has the Shelby with over 700hp,the growl of that monster,and pulls you back into the seat when she accelerates,she jokingly say :"This baby can put hair in your chest when you drive it". My niece has a BMW with who knows how many horses,but it has that growl and suspension button to change as needed, nice cars both,but faster than mine. I cannot see myself driving my mom's Sonic,nice car for her. I only hope we can always have the option of big powerful engines. Sadly,like in Europe,our nosey government is emulating and using Europe as a blueprint for the future.

What about Mitsubishi CVT transmissions, Are they reliable?
@gkauto1959
@gkauto1959 8 ай бұрын
I bought the CVT mirage new just 3 months ago and I can tell you that not only are they reliable, if you put it in sport mode you'll have no problems merging onto any freeway! They are easy to work on and have lasted over 200,000 miles but there is one wekness: you should change the CVT fluid every 20k miles and use AMSOIL full synthetic. Do that and get better transmission life and performance.

I heard that the Nissan Versa is more prone to problems. Especially with the transmission. I am not really interested in neither of these cars, and I may be wrong about it's reliability, but it may also play a part in the final price.

Under the Biden administration, things got difficult, but having these cars combat these difficult times and more savings on gas.

Absolutely rediculous they raised the price and also cut out the stick shift. The stick makes this car the best small car. That cvt makes it the slowest. In 2020 they have these away for 10900 with stick. 11900 with auto. Now they are worth 17000?? Rediculous. You can keep it. I'll buy a used 5 speed for a decent price. They are reliable cars though.
