NTH Barracuda Blue Diver Watch Full Review

This is such a gorgeous watch. I just got ridiculously lucky and sealed the deal on a vintage black Barracuda on eBay. It was a brand new 7 day auction with offers accepted, started only an hour or two before I saw it and had no bids yet. Luckily, the seller was based in Australia and I just happened to be looking around on eBay at 4:30am. Perfect timing. I submitted a good offer and it was accepted pretty much immediately. I cannot wait to receive it.

What's the difference between the Nacken and the Barracuda?

The most noticeable difference is that the Nacken has square hour indicators and the Barracuda has round hour indicators.

@@thegreatgambino I had a very difficult time deciding between 6 of these NTH Subs the Odin blue, Nacken blue, Nacken Vintage blue, Nacken Renegade, Santa Cruz, finally deciding on the Barracuda blue (no date). The sunburst blue dial and the raised indices were too much to resist. I'll probably wind up getting one of the others too...but which one?

Really enjoyed your review. Top of my list for my next watch is a blue faced 40mm diver. Am torn between this and the Squale 20 atmos. Any thoughts?

They are both great pieces. The only Squale I have ever owned is the 1545. In my opinion, the Squale felt like it was a higher quality piece. Winding the swiss eta movement and turning the bezel are both buttery smooth operations. On the other hand the NTH lume was far superior, and the best I have ever experienced. Hope this helps.

I cant decide between this and the nacken modern blue! which one do you think is nicer?

That's a tough one. I personally like the Barracuda because of the gold trim on the hands and hour indicators. If you're more of a Tudor Pelagos fan then I would choose the modern, as it is very similar to that model.

Really nice piece....how does it compare to the root beer squale?

They are both excellent pieces. The NTH has a far superior lume, and the bezel lines up perfect. The Squale has a better overall case and band finish. The steel just seems to be made of a higher quality on the 1545. In addition, the Squale has a very high quality swiss ETA movement. Winding the 2824 and turning the bezel are both buttery smooth! The NTH does not feel quite as satisfying while winding or turning the bezel. The Barracuda uses a Miyota 9015 witch is usually very noisy when the rotor spins. The fact that the NTH uses the 9015 allows it to have a much more slim case than an eta-2824. Out of the two, I personally prefer the Squale.

Of course... it's their MO and the name of the company is "Nod To History" - what do you expect? It's a well executed modern take and I believe one of the best microbrands out there (if not the best).
