Your question for you buying a GI should be "does it look good with a rash guard and pant combo only?" 😀😀😀😀

Well, in my case, I'm partial to light weight, I trained karate for years and I like light gis, that being said, as I'm the person who probably looks worst in a gi that I know, I just want it to fit. I buy my gis at the academy, and ask the instructor "what do you recomend?", and I'm good to go. My last purchase, and only because my go to gi was falling apart, is an hyperfly something-something, black, because I have blue and they gave me the black to try first. The only ones I shy away are the whites, because, well, karate for many years. Thank you for the vid, it's so lovely to know there are vegans in your academy, vegetarian here, can't say I'm vegan because I buy animal products for my cats! Go vegan!💖💖💖

I dont study bjj but i enjoy watching videos like this. Ive studied Karate my whole life its a family thing. But all we get to wear is white! Lol not even colored stitching just white. I experiment with different brands, fabrics, weights but they are all still just white. I live vicariously through u bjj practicioners, it would be nice to be able to mix it up once in a while.

Thanks for the tips. Personally I enjoy xguardbrand or redjourneybrand gi's. Lot of designs, options, colors, and matching rashguards.

I’d recommend a black gi if you’re training on dirty mats/ borrowed like if you train in a school you don’t want a stained white gi on the first day
@toadamine5 жыл бұрын
If you're training on dirty mats, find a better gym! How friggin hard is it to mop the mats? Dirty mats are a health hazard.

would you recommend them for a first gi? Id rather spend more money now over having to buy a new one 6 months later
@DavidCarterBJJ4 жыл бұрын
@@minedgravy380 if you don't mind spending the money, and you know you're in it for the long run, then i would go ahead and get one. I've had mine for over 2 years now. Just bought a replacement pants because the knees finally gave out. But lasted much longer than my other pants did.

@@minedgravy380 yes. Made in USA and reasonably priced. Lots of 10% off coupons out there. $150 for a USA made gi is pretty awesome.

A lot of the time,size guides are all to go by because shops in Australia don't have a huge range of gi brands and types to choose from and try on. Can't buy Koral in any store in Australia,how about Atama?Can't find them anywhere either? How about Kingz Sovereign 2.0 or cool gi's like the Star Trek Spock gi? Etc.

I love Fuji tops, but their pants run one size too short. For example, if you buy an A2, you have to buy A3 size pants. Weird

What's the difference between the male and female cuts for gis? Does it make a difference?
@lulu4life573 жыл бұрын
Yes it does! But it depends on the brand. Tatami for example sells gis especially for women

Yes man obviously female gi's are made in special sizings. for example, female gis are wide from chest and hips etc.

I have a question. I’m buying my gi from Elite Sports. I’m 5’8, 150lbs, and have a pant size of 30/32. My current/future gym doesn’t have anymore gi’s available. Any size recommendations for me? For when I’m buying then online. Much appreciated

A2, if you intend to gain weight go for an A3. I'm 5'9" 190 and wear A3 but they're a little long.
@isaisa88885 жыл бұрын
I'm a little worried because the gi I got (*from the place I'm about to start at it) doesn't fit but I'm only 5'1 and the instructor said that it was ok because I will lose weight" and that "its too long on me with the bigger size so I need to have the smaller one" but this one doesn't really fit at all, I don't feel confident and its very tight.

@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
Its just a uniformity thing and some academies want you to purchase their 'in house' gis for similar reasons. I don't enforce it in my academy and let students wear what they want but recommend blue, black or white for competitors. (-: Coach Tom Davey
