@@midlifebjj just left. I'm not a small guy, 5'11" 220lbs and former powerlifter. Been in my share of fights due to my job. Tonight I mostly rolled with people my size from white to purple. Got submitted a lot. Surprised to submit a 3 stripe white belt after he got me twice. Got totaled by a purple belt. The instructor, a black belt who is smaller than me, held a conversation with someone else while he effortlessly submitted me four times in under a minute. He seemed bored. He told me not to let it scare me into not coming back. If anything, it scared me INTO coming back. Scared of what I don't know. Scared to I know if I ran into someone like that one the street I am screwed. Gonna take a lot of time and effort but I will get there. Next class is tomorrow. Keep up the videos because I need advice from people farther along the journey than me! Thanks!

@@volovolo_ it been a wild ride, man. I am a two stripe blue belt now. I have a stack of gold, silver, and bronze medals for gi and no gi tournaments at ultra heavyweight and super heavyweight. Hey man, 4 stripe white belt at 40 here, I started almost 2 years ago but you know, a certain pandemic kept me far from the mats for several months, returned just 2 months ago with a lot of limitations. If I could add something, it's not an item, but a certain way to think about training. Understand you are not that young and can suffer real injuries by being reckless. Me, I chose to exercise my lower back and legs after having minor injuries and now I don't feel knee or lower back pain anymore. Preparation is more and more important as you get older.

I’m 35 and have had 2 back surgeries but they were back in 2009 and 2011. Wanted to do BJJ forever but was afraid my back can’t handle it. My son started a couple months ago and I really want to give it a try. But I also haven’t been active for a couple years. Used to at least play basketball once per week. I’m planning on trying to cut a few pounds and stretch/do core exercises for at least the next couple weeks before I go. Would be better if I did that for a few months before going but I’m hoping if I take it easy and don’t go too hard too early, that the BJJ will also help me build that strength and cut some weight.

Opening your hands in a bucket of rice may help. Bjj, climbing and grip exercises often overtrain griping and fail to train the opposite motion. Age and arthritis is inevitable, but we often only train our fingers in one direction for grip strength. It's similar to a bodybuilder who does 100 bicep curls daily but never does tricep extensions.

I haven’t watched the video yet, so my guess is: new skin, Sports tape, Tooth brush and paste, Deodorant, Nail clippers, Percussion massager. After watching the video, you need a percussion massager. I was debating skipping tonight’s practice because of an old bicycling Olecranon (elbow) fracture. After aggressively massaging my tricep (targeting the area that hurt when massaged) for 5 minutes the pain in my elbow is gone and I feel like I can do pushups.
