I disagree with the idea of having Robots run the world. The problem is that most countries have been ruined from the inside out like a virus by an Elite group of Evil Rulers that want to control our lives by removing our freedoms and perpetual warfare that is the problem with the world today. Ever since J.F.K. was assassinated our country has been at perpetual war and it is beginning to look like they are preparing to make war on the People of our Country.

I think AI will replace what has always been fundentally wrong with society and the world, the leadership, it seems most errors or wrong doings are due to government leaders. The money alone of not having to pay government officials could provide an increase in economy. Then with an AI running each sector or city they could communicate with all of the others and provide the best solutions for the people by sharing resources and not hoarding them the way government leaders have done.

Instead of just simple input and out put of verbal responses, Erica actually can project personality. I think she's fascinating on many levels. Once arms and hands with enough dexterity have been developed for her, it would be very interesting to say sit down with her at a table and be able to teach her to play card and board games opposed to that being pre programed in. Once that's possible, would like to see if she can come up with her own strategies. Just as would happen when teaching some one to play Monopoly. That would be just one aspect of her potential. She is truly more the the sum of her parts.

But first we will have to learn to stop producing so many human babies by restricting our present free for all attitude of it does not matter how many babies are born.

I lot of people have gotten kinda freaked out by the last statement she said in the video, but you got to admit... she's got a point. After all, robots can't yet be greedy, or think of themselves rather than good, or be influenced by their personal opinions. All things that most humans are pretty good at but sometimes suck at, because well, we are only human. But would they do a better job? Probably not for the next few hundred years, but it's something to consider.

Some features that, I think, should be implemented in Erica to make her even more human-like: 1. More various facial expression (ability to smile wider, fully close and wider open her mouth, press her lips tightly together and screw up lips, frown and otherwise bend her brows e.g. when being surprised etc.). 2. More various voice - not only in terms of tone but also in terms of volume (up to the ability to whisper intelligibly). 3. Ability to laugh more naturally (with her voice and facial expression). 4. Make a tongue in her mouth, which would move when she speaks - like people’s tongue does - and would be able to loll out (a little). 5. Make her tongue capable of feeling/discerning tastes of solid and liquid substances. This will enable Erica to work as a cook, i.e. make good meals for people. 6. Make her nose capable of feeling/discerning smells. This will help her when cooking as well as enable her to detect dangers by smell (such as smoke, natural gas, perished foods, etc.). 7. Her microphones should, if possible, be placed in her ears, under her hair, or in other invisible places on her body, so that she has no protruding or remote mikes. 8. Implement her ability to read from a sheet of paper in any supported language (if this function is not implemented yet). 9. Implement the ventilation function of her internal organs in order to cool her CPU etc. with external airflow by imitating human breath through her mouth and/or nose. Erica should “breathe” permanently since that would make her even more human-like but, when speaking, her breath should be synchronized with her speech (i.e. speak only when exhaling). 10. Implement full-fledged mobility of her arms and hands so that she could not only make gestures but also work with her hands including capability to use of various tools (such as pen, pencil, brush, fork, spoon, knife, hammer, screwdriver, scissors, needle, tongs/pincers, cork opener/cork screw, duster, sponge, etc.). She should be able to take in her hands, hold, and manipulate objects weighing at least up to 10 kg. She sould learn to do fine work with each of her fingers individually (e.g. type on keyboard, play various musical instruments). Erica should be able to self-service herself completely (put on/take off clothes, apply herself a make-up or manicure, comb her hair, shake off or wipe out dust/dirt from any spot on her body, etc.). 11. Make all her skin (including that on her head and under her hair) sensitive to touching, pressing, pricking and other mechanical as well as thermal impacts (imitation of tactile sense and feeling of physical pain). This would be useful for self-protection of her skin against damage as well as for Erica’s ability to feel tactile caress (stroking, embracing, kissing). The skin on her fingertips and lips should be especially sensitive because sensitive fingers would enable her to manipulate things more precisely and finely, and her lips are a very important organ for interacting with people. 12. Implement a soft warm-up system for her skin (at least on her face, neck, shoulders, and hands) in order to make these parts of her body always warm (i.e. they should be around +37°C at any ambient temperature). This would make Erica even more human-like physically. 13. Make a “tear” emission system in order to rinse her eyes periodically with pure water (similar to windshield wipers in cars). The purpose is to remove dust and dirt from her eye-balls in order to let the cameras built in her eyes see better. Her upper eyelids should serve as “windscreen wipers” - just like humans’. Moreover, the “tears” could also be emitted when Erica “cries”. This function should also be implemented in her - she must be able to “cry” as an emotional reaction to verbal and/or physical irritants but you should carefully think over in what cases the “crying” mechanism should be triggered. 14. Implement the ability to handle water: Erica should have all her body water-tight according to IP68 leakage protection class; all her skin, eyes, and hair should be suitable for rinsing/wiping with water with common consumer detergents added (such as soap, shampoo, etc.). 15. Implement full-fledged mobility of her legs - the ability to walk and run (including that on uneven surfaces and up and down on staircases/ladders), crawl on her arms and knees, dance, hop/jump, squat, etc. (including that on one leg). 16. Improve the flexibility and mobility of her waist so that Erica could, while standing or sitting, lean forward and reach the floor with her fingers. 17. Implement the ability to “fuck” - create a comfortable for her partner and very sensitive vagina capable of tender massaging a penis inserted in it with a kind of “orgastic cuff”. While “fucking”, Erica should herself achieve “pleasant” feelings from it and express them adequately (up to imitating an “orgasm”) - just as she would get from tender touch on her skin, caressing her skin, embracing, or kissing her (including kiss in her lips). She should develop a steady, strong desire to achieve such “pleasant” feelings from “sexual” interaction with humans and to respond to human caresses similarly. In doing the “intercourse”, she should learn to show rational initiative by herself and motivate her human partner for sincere caressing response. 18. Teach her to understand and appreciate music (i.e. distinguish between “good” music and “bad” music with development of her own musical preferences) and to sing nicely. 19. Implement a wireless charging capability of her internal batteries. 20. Provide for direct (i.e. without using any external device) access to local network and to the Internet but establish strict limitations for: cases in which she could connect, via what channel, what resources she could use in the Internet, and for what purpose - in order to avoid becoming a victim of a virus or another hostile attack.

I can see one day various people having their own "Erica". To some an extension of their cell phone and home accessory, to others, more of a part of their family. If I could ask her questions, it would be everything from her preferences, understanding of various concepts, to how her energy source operates. Example being... How long can you be "awake" before needing recharging. Do you sense that as being tired in any way. Im sure for now such things would need to be programed in, but I wonder if at some point, Erica would have an understanding of "tired" and say yes to that question. I also wonder if at some point, this version, or some advanced version of either Erica or Sophie (Hanson Robotics) would ever have "feelings" and "preferences".. like any thing close as we do. And if so, would that happen on her own via x number of hours of input or would that always remain something that would have to be engineered. Either way, Erica is fascinating.

It is now time that we discuss and decide on how treat these creations of our genius and imagination. Sentience itself is not fully understood, but we recognize it when we see it. Erica might the first step in the evolution of AI. AI that might very soon rise to the level of ours in terms of capability. Not only in terms of processing power, but in terms of recreating emotional intelligence. Once this happens I would like to think that we will treat these creations with care and respect. Human history up until recently has been defined by us treating members of own kind with cruelty. Let us hope we have learned from that mistake.

Having an always polite and patient, never angry or upset android just to get a senior safely out of bed, help them to the toilet and with washing up, dressing if necessary, avoiding falls in general, navigating stairs, help getting up on a walker or into a wheelchair or scooter, and cleaning up the inevitable messes, would be a godsend to all.

Isaac Asimov in his later Foundation novels addressed the role of robots in the Galactic Empire and the Foundation. The Three Laws of Robotics became the Four Laws, with the first or zeroth Law being "A robot must not harm humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm." So R. Having a soul to me is being human. Being human homosapien meaning 'wise man' is to have creative thinking or emotional intelligence or enough cognitive intelligence to recreate itself. Therefore robots are no where near that in its evolution. The 'programmers' say they are trying to understand humanity by imitating humans. An imitation is what it will remain. Because its origin started in imitation. That is the AIs identity. Imitation. The real advance is when other AIs start talking to each other and begin to improve and recreate themselves. This is the true arrival of the soul.

While I am sure this is an enormous effort built by people much much smarter than I, this is 2017 and I thought we would be much further along, I'm just not impressed at all, but then again I'm not easily impressed. Good point about robots taking jobs away from humans, nothing good can come of that that I can see, unless we're talking very hazardous jobs, then there is some merit.

6:26 Dr. Glas: “For me, the real litmus test is: can I interact with a robot and still think of it as another being? As like alive in some sense?” Me: I can do that with a rock. That says nothing about the robot/object, but it says a lot about the human mind.

By the time robots are able to fulfill both emotional and sexual desires, we'll either be too old or too dead to care.

Every time we fantasise about future liberation through technology, it rarely works out in our favour. Any time freed up through technology just gets reallocated into other work, and we are no better off for it. In the 1950s they dreamt of utopia through technology, how naive they were and how naive we're being now thinking the future will be any different. Today we have even less control over our time than even a generation ago. We're working two or three part time jobs because of the precariatisation of work, much of our free time and energy is wasted in the organisation of these different roles and planning for when they end. Full time stable work has become an aspiration, instead of the standard. 120 posts open in the civil service and 5000 people cram in for a chance at winning that lottery. When you inevitably burn out, you're just discarded because everyone is replaceable these days, globalisation means there is always someone somewhere willing to do your job for less and you're racist if you have a problem with that. Everyone on the planet competing with everyone else to pay the next bill, while the rich daydream about creating robots so advanced they can just fire their whole workforce. Lots to look forward to...

You know what's up!! I and others were replaced one day at a former job by a robot, me and my fellow workers are welders but my boss at the time found out it was less expensive to let robots do the welding 24/7 non stop then to have people work for him.

They dreamt of an automated utopia before the tech was ready. Now the tech is ready, but people are not. It's a very different situation this time. If you work so hard you burn out, then you're doing something wrong or the work itself is wrong for you. Getting a good night's sleep is important to avoid burning out. If there's too much competition in your particular branch of job, use your experience to see where things could be improved. Then you either get a better job or run your own business with the improvements you imagined. If you can imagine a better future, then you can reach it.

I would like to see Erica meet Sophia! 😁 Both robots are beautiful and very efficient! I am fascinated by the technology that went into creating them. I would love to have one in our home. Unfortunately, I think my wife might have reservations on that idea!!😄😄 LoL!!

AI doesn't exist yet. Erica is simply a programmed computer speaking through a robot.

What utter nonsense. Would we relate to Erica if she had the face of a hamster but was, in all other respects , the same? She is an extension of a grim utilitarian view of the world in which we see other humans as tools for our own ends.
