Getting citizenship in most European, especially Northwestern European countries, tends to be harder than many other European countries. Some countries do give out residency if you have a certain amount of funds. Many countries require you to pass a language and civics test to qualify for citizenship. Due to a skills shortage and an ageing population if you are young and work in certain industries and speak certain languages it will be easier to work and move to many European countries versus 5-10 years ago. Would warn you that due to the recent influx of asylum seekers and the lack of new construction housing is very hard to find in many countries and cities and has become much more expensive. The Nigerian man wanted to remain in Europe as a refugee which is entirely different than moving to Europe to work and eventually get citizenship. It is usually very difficult to switch from an asylum seeker to other classes of immigration without leaving Europe and then applying to reenter. Time while on temporary humanitarian permits or as asylum seekers tend to not count towards other residency programs unless you get approved. Given that he likely has a home to return to in Nigeria I was surprised that he qualified to remain in Europe like Ukrainians who didn’t have a home to return to.

Enno had a student Visa in Ukraine. It's not sure that he can join AFU even if he wants to fight in the War, but in any case, Ukraine doesn't have a shortage of manpower atm. but they need ( as said in the media ) more shells, longer ranged missiles and anti air stations for the cities. In Kiev also anti air systems vs. nuclear attacks, not that the systems can stop every bomb but they can cut the casualty rate by 50 to 80 %.

I think you missed the point. He said his status is uncertain, he has the right to remain, but only for a limited period. Since he left Ukraine, he may face similar issues if he goes back. He is running a business. He needs certainty. If he moves back he will lose his temporary status in Hungary and may not get permanent status in Ukraine, and if he goes to Ukraine and picks everything up to re-locate to Hungary he could lose a lot of money in relocation costs only to discover in a few months that he has to leave Hungary. I've faced the panic of not knowing what your status is going to be myself, it's no joke!
