My mom had a friend who had a still born. My mom doesnt talk about it that much, especially not in front of her. But she talks about how her friend doesnt even remember that day. The most memorable thing about that moment according to my mom, is visiting her friend in the hospital trying to hold and nurse a baby doll, and calling it by what her actual name would have been if the baby lived. My mom says she knows that her friend took the doll home, but hasnt seen it since. I am really disappointed that this hobby was portrayed this way. This is not different than someone collecting cars, toy trains, etc. These people take care of their dolls because they care about their collection. Buying clothes and accessories is no different than buying a part/add-on for any other collection. And yes, while you are holding a doll, you may feel instinctual parental tendencies, but that isn't WHY people collect. It is a secondary part of it.

I know what you mean, when i was 6 or 7, someone in my immediate family gave me a baby doll for christmas, i was in love, too me it felt like i could actually hug and kiss and love someone, as a child i was shunned and never touched nor loved, much less ever received anything for christmas nor had birthday parties, but that christmas which was a first for me, only thing was my family, mother, grandmother, sibilings just didn't like that i always clung to my baby, they couldn't stand it, telling me that one day i was going to come home and never see her again, and so it was, i felt as if my heart had been torn out of my soul, i secretly searched the trash cans and even the outside cans but never found her, many countless nights sobering and wondering why would they do this to me, too this day i have always wanted to buy me one of these, but have always felt ashamed that people are going to question me and belittle me. Can't understand how family blood can be so cruel.

We all collect these lifelike dolls for different reasons and the special part of this doll hobby is that it allows our nurturing side to be fulfilled. I am an empty nester and even though I have 2 children, I have always loved babies. We don't need to spend a lot of money to enjoy these dolls and the best part is that they stay little forever.
@BronteBlu24 жыл бұрын
Many collect these dolls because they love the art, the fact that an artist can take a piece of vinyl and make it look like a real baby is pretty amazing. It's no different than an artist that can paint a portrait that looks like an actual photograph. Or who can sculpt a piece of clay to look like a real person. IT'S ART, AND IT'S COLLECTABLE. I started out painting porcelain dolls because I loved the antiques, but they were way beyond what I could afford, so I took classes and made antique reproductions dolls; and when I found reborns, they are a much more challenging art form, because the ultimate goal is to paint the vinyl so well that it looks real. And others who aren't interested in painting, enjoy collecting and appreciating the art. Just like you have artists who paint pictures, and those who don't paint, enjoy collecting the paintings. I don't understand why our society can't do anything without putting labels on people. So busy in other people's business, they've become OBSESSED with making assumptions, criticizing, judging and playing armchair psychologists. People need to get a life of their own and leave people alone.

I make a lot of therapy dolls and I really wish they would be covered by insurance, these babies create such happiness in memory homes and they calm kids on the spectrum. They are a therapy tool that some people just can't afford. I also believe that you should never stop playing, if that means you still run through the sprinklers when you are fifty, ride your bike to the ice cream shop when you are 80, build sandcastles your whole life. What I would like to point out as a collector of these dolls - not all of us collect for therapy reasons. There are many different reasons why people collect reborns and/or silicone dolls. Most of collectors actually have multiple children and many have grandchildren as well. I personally collect for the art aspect. It amazes me how the art progresses each year. To see the new techniques that create full uncanny valley effect amazes me as art enthusiast. I don’t need therapy, I do not think my dolls are real, I do not tend to them as they were real. I don’t crave having a living screaming kid at home at my age, I do have a fur baby and I’m very active in animal rescue. I wish when documentaries like these are made, all groups and reasons why people collect were covered. Not only a therapy part. There are so many groups of collectors and artists and sculptors worldwide. None of these documentaries cover the art aspect, sculptors point of view and international shows and classes. This is much more complex hobby than any of these documentaries portrays. Also nobody ever questions men collecting their toys - car, train or airplane models? Many of us collect for the same reason - because we just love the dolls. Nobody is too old to play and forget about everyday stress. Who said women (and some men as well) cannot enjoy the things they enjoyed as kids. 😁

I explained that I don’t want to have a baby I just love this doll. As a reborn artist for 7 years, I can tell you that it's more than just a coping mechanism for women who have lost a child or can't have one. It is proven to help people with anxiety, depression, dementia, alzheimers, etc. Plus, they are pieces of art. Just like any art, there are collectors. I understand that this form of art isn't for everyone, but to bash or make fun of the ones who enjoy the art solely because you don't understand it or think it's 'weird' is uncalled for. These people are not crazy nor is the art. If you don't like it, than just keep your negative comment to yourself and move along. It's not that difficult to do. I am more than willing to explain this art to anyone who wants to know, but I will not do it if some of you are only asking so you're able to find more reasons to ridicule the people who make and collect these dolls.

To all the people saying these women should adopt is actually rather rude. Remember these are just dolls and just because they love these babies doesn’t mean they want kids. Also some who have experienced child loss don’t want to adopt since it is not only stressful but they may not be ready to move on. Adoption is very different to natural childbirth and it involves often many years of stressful courses and interrogations. Some women don’t want to go through that. They may not want children full stop, they may just love the sensation of holding and dressing a baby, that doesn’t mean they want a real one. Babies are incredibly different to dolls no matter how realistic they look

I was babysitting one of my mom's friends kids, and they had a reborn baby doll. And let me tell you, when they let me hold it for the first time; I felt comforted and relaxed, and I couldn't stop holding it.

Ofc the maker of the baby ain't gonna say she judges, she's making bank off of this

Just because reborn dolls are expensive doesn't mean that the creators make bank off of it, they take time to sell because lots of people don't have the money and other stuff, this comment is a little disrespectful

Guys this is therapeutic. Stop being mean to her and calling her insane

I raised my six kids and now have my starting up collection. It helps, I'm home bound for I don't know how long and they keep me company.

@@edna5764 It is creepy. So are their lifeless stares. Like dead babies with their eyes open.

I feel bad for the lady that has endometriosis and can't have biological kids. I think she could be happier if she decides to adopt a real baby / kid. I don't think a doll can make her as happy as a real son/daughter. I wish her the best 🙆

Yeah unlike the others she genuinely seemed like she wanted real kids, I hope she gets some some day

Having a reborn helps me cope with my fear of being unable to have children. I understand what that woman said about walking past baby aisles being very painful. But holding a baby, even if it's not real, and feeling that weight, brings an immeasurable amount of comfort. I know it's hard to understand. Really, honestly, it's mostly a case of, "Well, you had to have been there to understand." ❤️'s and best wishes to her and her husband, and to all reborn artists and moms of the world.

I had a stillborn in 05. My other 2 girls were older teenagers. I have a granddaughter now and it's very comforting to play with her doll that belonged to her aunt, my youngest daughter. These women are full of love, and or loss. I can absolutely see how it can help.

I am disgusted at how this video has portrayed the hobby and how they portrayed us as crazy. News flash: we do not think they are alive! And if all of you leaving nasty comments would do your research, you would know that there is scientific evidence that they are therapeutic and that they grossly exaggerated the prices of the dolls. I’m disgusted that you all can be so hateful when you didn’t even bother to make sure the info in this video is correct, which it is not! Stephanie Ortiz, who is featured in this video, even said that she is very upset with how it turned out!

oh, shut up. The video is very respectful and it doesn't portray the people in it as crazy. You, on the other hand, sounds a little unhinged. Get help and go away.
