I got one of these ‘60s Customs in the sunburst a few months ago. It’s simply amazing. The neck and the weight are spot on. It’s about 6lb! I’ve added Tonerider Hot Classics and brass saddles. Early in the COVID days I ordered a Bullet Telecaster on sale. It arrived with a small chunk taken out of the back, all the way to the bare wood. It was so inexpensive that I decided to keep it, and these days I usually forget about the damage because it sounds great, stays in tune, and I don’t have to worry about knocking it around.

Keep this series going man. LOVE IT. I am quickly replacing my expensive stock with more affordable guitars and not regretting it at all. I’ve been playing these Classic Vibes for years and I’ve always liked them but the China made ones were much better quality wise. My Indonesian ones always had electrical issues. Minor ones but still had them. My China ones were and are flawless.

@peluchingamarra3127 I have a '07 Squire VM Tele'. Made in India and build quality was excellent there also. Indian red cedar body, maple neck/fretboard, HS Duncan Designed p'up config...it heads away rivals any Fender MIM models I've owned, and gives the Americans a run for sure. Only ever saw 1 of it's exact config/spec/build go up for sale in the past 8 years. Rare gem.

I just picked up a Baja for £600. I'm honestly not sure I got the better deal. Wow! A lot of things are being done better: full thickness body, string through, binding, walnut plug in the truss (don't even get those on MIM), no silly metric parts .. Just blown away. Great, great value! Edit: I'd wrap the ferules in a bit of newspaper and titebond them in. Them not being tight to the body is robbing you of 0.4545% of your toan!

The Classic Vibes are _fantastic_ guitars. I have the sunburst version of the same Tele from a few years back and I play it as much as my US- and Mexican-made Fenders. Also, for all the US folks, Andertons will, at least the last time I checked, ship Squiers to America at a quite reasonable rate. I got a Fiesta Red Classic Vibe Strat from them, a color not available in the US, and it turned out the cost was a bit less than buying a run-of-the-mill Classic Vibe domestically. The delivery shockingly quick from the UK to USA. Another fine video. Give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the good work.
@Chirn70

The Chinese Vibes were even better. They were the same factory as an actual Fender that was out for a while, a Modern Player or something? I had a Chinese and an Indonesian made side by side (Indo was a Strat though) and the Indo was more like the older, cheaper "Vintage Modified" in quality. Still good but those Chinese ones were quality.

Colin, I saw the olive green the other day and the only thing that kept me from hitting "buy" immediately was that I had a Squier FSR 60s Custom Esquire on the way, as well as an Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s, both in black! The Esquire has the same sharp nut, which I didn't notice until after I restrung it after swapping the saddles and polishing the frets (the frets were 100% playable, but I just like them extra polished). I'll sand that edge off the next time I change the strings which knowing me might not be until next year! Anyway, the olive green Tele looks just as brilliant as my black Esquire. I love the slim neck profile.

Another terrific view, in-depth and unbiased. I recently picked up the Squier CV Thinline Tele that also has the laurel fretboard. I treated it with 'Monty's Guitars Montepresso" and it darkened it indistinguishable from a rich rosewood. I'm not a shill for them in any way, just an ordinary 'bloke' from the States, but it's really good stuff for making laurel look and feel like rosewood.

I have a light weight paranormal offset squire - which I assume has a similar sound - and it is awesome. The frets were flawless, with a nice bevel, no sharp edges, no buzzing, polished. ALNICO pickups with the same specs as Fender. There's something great about the telecaster neck pickup. It's mellow, can do jazz, and when distorted does not sound fizzy(although can be a little bit dark). But the bridge pickup is very bright so the two combined have just that great, expressive sound.

Missed this video - great looking guitar. Would look great next to a classic custom in that 3-tone sunburst on the wall. Do I sense a new tele custom obsession coming on? Must say you have some of the best taste out of all the guitar youtubers, wouldn't mind owning any of the stuff in your collection. Although much more SG heavy, very similar taste to my own. I agree with your take on telecasters, so many different types of the same exact thing. I don't need one in every color in the same configuration, but there are so many different variations you can create. With humbuckers, P90, mixes, neck humbuckers, some with a third pickup, a hollow-body f hole version, rosewood neck maple neck, all the various neck shapes and radiuses. You can have a lot of telecasters that all tick a different box from one another. Right now I am building a full mahogany parts telecaster with Gibson scale length, dual humbucker, stop tail + tunomatic bridge, big headstock strat neck - inspired by the troublemaker series but a step further. I also hate single bound telecasters, double binding or none. My version of a Gibson Telecaster. Then the black and gold Bigsby version of the troublemaker came out and now I want to make second parts caster, double bound, bigsby and bound neck to fullfill both itches.

Great series on the Telecasters. I really enjoy your videos; they are very informative and I do enjoy your playing too! I am looking forward to your next video in the series. I have never been a fan of the Telecaster, however I decided I wanted something with that “Tele sound.” I didn’t want to put much of my guitar money into it since I was unsure about actually playing a Telecaster, so, I found a Squier Limited-Edition Bullet Telecaster Electric Guitar Lake Placid Blue on Musicians Friend that was on sale for $137 US. I then went to Amazon and picked up a set of Hipshot locking tuners for $59, a complete 920D T4W-C wiring harness for $65 and a set of Fender Pure Vintage Reissue Telecaster pickups for $110. While putting in these bits I did a complete set up on the base guitar including rolling the fretboard. So… I have $371 (299 pounds) in a Telecaster that sounds amazing! Perhaps you might want to duplicate this and compare it to the rest of the Telecasters that you are comparing. This guitar is pretty decent on its own, however the mods take it to the next level. If I decide I want something different all my components can be moved to another guitar. Having said that, this one plays wonderfully and sounds great too so I don’t really feel the need to replace it. It plays as well as my Gibsons and PRSs and has that classic Tele sound!

Re the tuners (by the way these vintage tuners are one of my favourites) I’ve had exactly the same issue with 2 classic vibes a 50’s and an Esquire and it’s alway just one out of six, so made one good set out of 2 and bought a genuine set of Fender ones for the other guitar. They look the same but do feel slightly better quality and work perfectly not too expensive either. I love these tuners because strings are easy to remove and put back on without changing strings every time. Thanks again for interesting video Colin.

I noticed the static noise from rubbing your fingers over the scratchplate. Should be an easy fix though... I couldn't see a grounding wire under the bridge plate so maybe it needs one. And yea, I'd say that fretboard looks like it needs a lot more than 'a little' lemon oil. Honestly, I'd give it 3 or 4 light coats letting it sit an hour or so between each; it looks Gobi Desert dry. Legit though, that really is beautiful, double-bound Teles always get up upvote from me. And I love seeing less-usual colors. Through your Rat, it sounded fan-bloody-tastic!

Hey Colin , check out the Squier 40th anniversary Tele in Vintage edition, satin vintage blonde , with black body binding , they are killer , you would love it , same neck profile as the 60’s CV all satin I got one and it’s really a great tele, black anodized Pickguard and maple board. Great review as always ✌🏻🇺🇸

Some of these Squier series guitars just like the Epihones are getting so good now that is there any point in spending over a grand more for a Fender or Gibson? certainly not for live playing not sure an audience would hear a difference, bound to have a different feel to the player I guess but worth the extra? Great vid Colin as always cheers.

Just recently bought an Epi Les Paul Custom in Black. Couldn't believe it. But I did not find a single thing to nitpick. Not even the pickups. Are there better pickups. Yeah there will but you can change them for your needs. But pay more then 4000 Euros for a Gibson Custom is just crazy. Quality really stepped up in the last years. Also have a squire classic vibe in gold. Really nice vintage feeling strat. 😁 People who think you cannot play a gig with them are nuts in my opinion.

So much so that I just bought an Epiphone Firebird and jeez is it damn good! No issues with either guitar played out the box. I was so impressed I had to do an umboxing and review vid on them both. Only have one Tele, a semi-retired Squier road warrior that I sort of forget about and then rediscover for an afternoon every now and then. It's lineage is at best murky, but it does possess a baseball bat neck that I have always liked, so I've never really thought to replace the old girl. However, your enthusiasm with this new thinner necked instrument has stirred the beginnings of a thought, so maybe I'll take a look around and see what's out there. Looking forward to the next chapters to see what you find.

Yes Colin, she's gorgeous, and I want a black one badly. I'll have it one day but I'm saving up for a specific Marshall (a '70s JMP) and my Gods they're spendy these days. Hope all's rockin' sweetly for you and the family, ol' son.

@@theguitaristas Nope! lol - I only ever used one in my left (offstage) ear, and no tinnitus, thank the Gods. My old rig was two JMPs and a Hiwatt. Loud? I was considered the loudest in Florida back then, (I never thought I was that loud). This was the old punk rock days, and I loved that sound. Course the were other 'things' that came with the ol' 'no future' lifestyle and - well, it's boring old story. Anyway what I liked was - at these volumes your guitar took on a 'life of it's own' an' you ended up hangin' on for dear life, lol! I used the Telecaster Deluxe back then. The old Hiwatts simply aren't available these days. Wow. crazy days, but I bet you were havin' much the same run 'bout the same time.

The olive green with cream binding looks beautiful; guitar sounds real good, like a Tele should; great vfm. Real bone nut; real wood truss-rod insert; nice fretwork. Pups (Alnico III apparently) & electronics (apart from the "mystery" cable-end!) looking good. - Especially after their sloppy and overpriced recent US-made offerings, Fender could certainly learn a thing or two from their "little brother" (as indeed could Gibson from Epiphone). Great review, as per usual, Col. Cheers! EDIT: Would definitely like to see a review of the Fender Player Telecaster (NOT the "Player-Plus": they suck!)

Missed having a telecaster around, so I have a Squier 40th Anniversary Telecaster Vintage Edition in Dakota Red showing up today. Bought a Player series (from a vendor that rhymes with Sitar Denter.) The "new" guitar was missing the selector switch cap, the output jack was literally falling out of the body, and the neck had a serious bow that didn't budge after a full turn and a half on the truss rod. So, returned that and bought the Squier (from a different shop). I joke with people all of the time that if the guitar quality at this price point existed when I first started playing, I might be a much better guitarist than I am today. Then again, maybe not... Great review, as always. Always insightful and entertaining!

That's a beauty Colin. There is just something about a double bound tele that rocks my world. And then to be that Green colour takes it up to another level. Just looking on Thomann and they have a sunburst in the same spec.......sorely tempted. You need to be on commission mate. If a potential owner was to change the pickups, pots, switch, bridge saddles and tuners to better quality the result should give any fender a run for its money and would be a superior guitar to a Mexican version for similar money. I assume that colour is an exclusive to Andertons edition?

I got one of those few years back. The older Chinese model in 3 tone sunburst, I ended up selling the neck and getting an Allparts japanese fat 60s tele neck. I sprayed it in nice amber nitro. I did once change the bridge pickup for a hot broadcaster pickup but the original sounded as good, so I put it back !These classic vibes are next best thing to the old Japanese Tokais and Grecos.

Now you've opened Pandora's guitar case again, and I can't get it shut. I'd convinced myself that the HB-TE62 was a good enough alternative, but now ..... me want one! Would love you to check out the HB JA-60 CC. I've been GASing for an Inca Silver one of those for quite some time too. They look like an astounding buy for not very much money. As I'm perpetually broke, I'll probably be getting a double bound Harley Benton. They only come in 3 colours but they all look good. The fretboard radius is a flattish 12" though, same as my other 2 guitars. I'd prefer at flattest a 9.5" so might rethink or just change at a later date.

Bought one of these new in 2010 £325 in sunburst , bridge pickup died in 2018 , replaced with a Wilkinson PU also a wilki: bridge plate with brass saddles , the intonation is spot on it stays in tune perfectly, it's a great guitar , a definite keeper. Also have a classic vibe 50s strat , which I absolutely adore, I recently sold a MIM Fender strat that was really nice but for me the classic vibe is the better guitar .

that solder job on the selector switch looks subpar to me. i wish they would use standard vintage style switchcraft style switches instead of circuit boards. but these probably cost a couple bucks less per unit. the first improvement i do to most cheap electrics is replacing the switch and pots if necessary. it usually is.

Another fun review for all us musicians to consider. Regarding amps, the Princeton has always been what I aspire to one day, however, since you have several, why not splurge a hundred quid on an Orange amp detonator or similar, and run two amps wet/dry or alternate. It might be interesting to see how each new purchase is effected by switching g between the ever present Princeton and another of your amp collection. I’ve got a Laney 15w Ironheart paired with an orange dark terror (and their respective cabs). It is rare that I don’t run them both wet/dry, as nothing sounds as good once you’ve tried it. I do suspect you will enjoy your new guitars even more if you make this addition to your set-up. Or try it, and see if it’s worth the hassle maybe.

Thanks for the great video again. Really appreciate you being sponsor free btw. I do think it would be interesting to see how the classic vibe compares to the player tele. On paper at least, it seems like you’d be paying extra for the Fender name on the headstock and sacrificing some of those nicer vintage specs the classic vibe has.
