To me, duck hunting is setting out the decoys, calling them in, perfect cammo and success!

these are mostly likely pen raised ducks that are released specifically for the hunt. Hence the lack of camo, decoys, etc

That depends heavily on the territory. For example in my territory (mostly field, few small lakes) we use decoy hunting for geese mostly and all the ducks are shot during the yearly driven hunt.

Dogs belong to our Hunting Culture like our Rifles, we use many different Dogs for Waterwork often German Wirehaired, Labrador, Retriever... for Driven Hunts on Wildboar smaller Sized Dogs are prefered like German Hunting Terries, Alpine Dachsbracke .... for the Red Work after a Shot there are 3 Specialists very Popular Bavarian Mountain Hound, Hanoverian Mountain Hound and the Alpine Dachsbracke In Germany for example every Hunting District (most are around 600-700ha / 1500acres 3-4 Hunters are normal per district) has to have a fully trained Dog (yes they not only must be trained they have to do some tests like Waterwork, search and bring a dead Rabbit, a blood Trail that is 12 hours old ....) for themselves or on Hand in the near neighborhood without that you dont have the permission to hunt. German Hunting Terries are very good Allrounders when you train them properly also Alpine Dachsbracke but they are not so good for Water but they are very good for Driven Hunts on Wildboar, Red Deer, Roe ...
@Alex-ol5pk2 ай бұрын
Is most duck hunting in Europe done this way? I'm assuming these are game farm ducks being released or driven for the shooters. In the states at least where I hunt its all about setting a spread of decoys brushing yourself into a blind or tule patch and calling them into the decoys for a good clean shot. Is that done in Europe as well or are the drives like this the only way to hunt?
@tgsoutdoors2 ай бұрын
Plenty of wild duck Opportunities out there across Europe. These are release ducks, but unlike many shoots in the USA they are released 3 months before the season begins and no more will Be released thereafter. This results in a much wilder bird

Driven duckhunts are very rare in Germany.

Released birds arent that common, as soon corn is Cut, skies will be full of geese and mallards can be found at any puddle. I wouldnt spend any shells on released birds...Just my two eurocents. All the best from northern krautland.

This was a VERY exclusive hunt. I´d guess, it was a international hunting party, but even if not, these were all some kind of special guests and NOT the typical German hunter! Normal duck hunting in Germany is very different.
