I shot the K3 in .243, the muzzle flip surprised me after my foxing rifle, it was though a thing of beauty.

Hi John great revue again. I think I'll get my old Cooey .410 barrel relined in 6.5 by 55 , thereby as they say pimping it up a little for no money !...ha ha .

From your last video on the K3 it took me absolutely aaaages to wrap my head around how the tilting block created the lock up, certainly not obvious unless you have it in front of you.... I'd love one of these or the Blaser in 7x65R 👌🏻

The only advantage to that removable piece would be to have individual barrels fitted with its' own piece so that calibers can be swapped without the need to have a gunsmith headspace each barrel. Coming as a matched set means that Merkel has set the headspace and throats for maximum accuracy.

I think single shots definitely have a place, at this price point you're going to expect the market to be more experienced shooters who don't need to rely on a second shot. Think these are absolutely beautiful, only annoyed that they don't have the stutzen variant available.
@bq22103 жыл бұрын
As far as I am informed, a Stutzen variant is in the pipeline. By the way: interesting concept, that a single shot is something for the more experienced shooters. In more conservative circles in southern Germany and Austria (especially in the mountains), young shooters tend to get a single shot rifle for their first hunting weapon, in order to educate them to make the first shot count.

Great review! Are the barrels "plug and play" now like in the Blaser K95? Or do they need adjustment by a gunsmith? Do you know the approx. price of a spare barrel? Thanks!

Love kipplaufs. To bad they’re hard to afford here in the states. Most that we see that are genuine German single shots are chambered in 8.16 and are made in the 30’s. I really like my savage 219 which is a lot like a kippluaf but it’s a .30-30

DS stock makes a lot of sense compared to usual Bavarian hog back stock. It offers better eye alignment with sights and better recoil management. At least thats my subjective opinion.

Merkels are a very good gun, prices are a bit steep for most but compared to an English gun it's a hell of a good value, at least you can always get what you payed for a Merkel unlike English guns once bought it will take many years to get your investment back.

Hey Jonny, how does this new K5 compare with the Blaser K95?
@tgsoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Very well, they have brought their technical features in line with the K95, but have kept the merkel finish and slightly higher quality
@paulbuchbauer70023 жыл бұрын
@@tgsoutdoors Very interesting! I was always under the impression that the Blaser was the higher quality rifle. Perhaps because it's historically been more expensive than the previous model Merkel K3.

@@paulbuchbauer7002think he meant merkel improved their own quality in comparison to the k3. Blaser is a better rifle for sure.

Owned both and no longer own the Bergara! The K3 is world's above the Bergara, I found it unbalanced, light in the rear end, lots of muzzle flip, the trigger was awful and accuracy poor in. 308. The K3 I still own in 7x57R and its honestly a delight, the trigger is crisp and engineering neer perfect, the only thing I thought it needed for me was the fore end swivel mount not the barrel, just personal taste, and a hand finished stock rather than machine. I ended up stripping the rifle myself and refinishing it to my taste and the wood is far nicer. I'm just deciding whether to do the swivel stuff and remove the old one.... I can't bring myself to do it just yet as I'm worried the blueing won't be the same. But the K3 is as John said in his previous video awesome.
