Chia Seeds may be deemed a superfood by many people, but there are 3 things that Chia Seeds are NOT.
NOTE: The examples in this video was meant to put across the point that Chia Seeds will not make up for whatever that is not good in a meal, they were not meant to show how Chia Seeds are typically used. Chia seeds are best taken with drinks, soups, stews and taken with lots of fluids.
Suggested related video to watch next
CHIA Seeds - WHOLE vs GROUND - • Chia Seeds - Ground or...
As the popularity of chia seeds grows, chia seeds are increasingly found in more and more products in the supermarket. These are the 3 things that Chia Seeds are not that I often find myself having to explain and emphasize to my patients and coachees, many of whom are taking chia seeds to better control their diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and other lifestyle/diet-related chronic conditions.
As we find more and more packaged foods in the supermarkets that have Chia Seeds included in them, many people are making the mistake of being distracted by the 'Halo Effect' of 'Chia Seeds Inside' labels on food products and not looking holistically and critically enough at the inherent healthfulness, or lack of, of any food products that they buy. Regardless of how nutritious Chia Seeds are and how often one takes chia seeds, the need to learn and practise consistently eating habits to prevent and combat chronic lifestyle diseases remain something that is imperative.
Chia Seeds do have a place in our diet, but only as part of a healthy eating habit, not in place of one.
Ever since I posted this video more than 6 months ago (Oct 2020), it has received many comments from viewers, some positive and also many negative and even angry comments. I want to thank everyone who made the effort to leave comments, regardless of whether they were positive or negative. I shall take encouragement from the positive encouraging comments but at the same time, I will also not ignore or disregard the negative comments/feedback but to take such negative feedback seriously and learn from them, then use them as motivation for me to try harder to improve and make better videos moving forward. THANK YOU ALL!
My goal for this video was simply to highlight the importance of improving all aspects of our lifestyle and diet for health and to combat chronic diseases, to remind people NOT to be distracted by the 'Healthy Halo' of 'Superfoods' such as Chia Seeds when making food choices, especially when shopping for packaged foods in supermarkets, to encourage everyone to look at the full ingredients listing of all packaged foods before buying, including food products that have 'CHIA SEEDS INSIDE' labels
PS. The examples in this video was meant to put across the point that Chia Seeds will not make up for whatever that is not good in a meal, they were not meant to show how Chia Seeds are typically used.
Chia seeds are a great healthy ingredient, full of nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, that I would encourage everyone to keep handy in their pantry. I use chia seeds often in my cooking, eg. sprinkling chia seeds into my beverages, soups and stews. But this video, as the title '3 THINGS THAT CHIA SEEDS ARE NOT' suggest, was never intended for talking about l the different health benefits of chia seeds or the different ways to take chia seeds.
Thanks everyone! Have a great day!

Thanks for letting the world know that making one good choice is not good enough, despite what you say at the end about one choice at a time... perhaps if you saw superfoods as a gateway to better foods choices, rather than a platform to point out what is still wrong with someone’s diet?? You would not punish a baby for crawling just because it was the right age to walk. Yet it seems that baby steps are not seen as an opportunity for encouragement and education. Good job professionals... most will go home, dump the chia in the trash and keep eating the junk because the doctor said chia seed doesn’t work. More shame and pointing out of the obvious, about not making good food choice is sooooo what this world needs. We can see how well that is working as the world gets more and more unhealthy. Here is an idea. When someone tells you about using a “superfood” encourage their interest in nutrition. Direct them on how to use them and where to find more information. Don’t make them feel reprimanded for not doing enough. We get it you are smart. You know it is not enough but it is one good choice! Make them excited about telling you about their next good choice. SMH...

Doctor Chan has put up a wonderful summary video about chia seeds. First thing In the morning I put 2-3 Tsps of chia seeds in 1 cup of water. I wait 15-20 minutes and then I drink it on an empty stomach. It has improved my energy, skin, hair, nails, and overall health. Drink to the wellness of good health.👍

@monicad351 Do you not believe in natural health or is it the fact that I am addicted to fake food like 90% of all people? Manufactured foods have been around maybe 100 years and people's health has never been so out of control. If not the food causing obesity (which then causes a number of other health problems) what is causing it? Regardless of your belief in natural healing, you have to see that food alone causes 90% of all health issues. By simply not consuming manufactured foods, your health gets better. The only foods not manufactured are foods grown from the ground and do not have an ingredient list. Hence why I say raw foods as eating raw gives the body the most nutrients. The more nutrients your body gets, the healthier the person is. Any Dr. should have the common cents to know that even though none of them spend more than a couple hours during their schooling on nutrition. People eating healthy don't go to the Dr. Ever hear the saying "an apple a day keeps the Dr. away"? The medical industry makes $4.3 Trillion dollars per year! How many people would be out of a job if we all ate a healthy diet??? 🤔 Can you see why and how this would greatly affect everything if people rarely needed medical services?

I’ve only just recently started incorporating Chia seeds into my diet. I find them helpful for motility. When I add other fibre to my diet it does not seem to move things along whereas Chia seeds do. I simply soak them in water. I drink half a cup early in the day and half a cup later in the day. They have been wonderful to move things along. And I’m also excited to learn that they help with my digestive probiotics.

While they can be beneficial, there’s a lot more to consider if a lifestyle change is necessary to treat chronic health problems. If people think consuming chia seeds take preference over other foods, they may be jeopardizing their health. Thank you, doctor!

It makes me think of a saying years ago, “give me the Big Mac meal with a Diet Coke!” As if the Diet Coke removed all the woes of the meal. I’ve listen to a few doctors (I’m very selective) on adding healthy, natural more original foods to our diet. I’ve had to definitely make changes to my eating habits, adding and taking away to care better for my body and mind. I definitely feel and see the improvement in my over all well being. I eat chia seeds solely for the fiber. I’m a diabetic but I watch what I eat 95% of the time (sometimes I want something sweet) I eat out 2x a month, but I’m trying to only do it 1x a month. My a1c went from a 10.6 to a 6.4 after my daughter moved out because we were eating out 25 days out of the month.

I love Chia seeds for added nutrients only in my diet not expecting any Magic.. There’s no magic in just one kind of seeds . My opinion is that it’s Common things or common sense to learn that few seeds or few fruits or eating veggies sometimes can make miracles for health. Proper diet is really hard to maintain but not impossible to do. Thank u doc, coz some people needs these health informations👍

Chia seeds are a great healthy ingredient to keep handy in the pantry. I use chia seeds often in my cooking, eg. sprinkling chia seeds into my soups and stews even though that does not add to the taste or enjoyment of the soups/stews. All I had wanted to achieve for this video was to highlight the importance of improving all aspects of our lifestyle and diet for health and also to remind people NOT to be distracted by 'Superfoods' or the 'Healthy Halo' of Cha Seeds when making food choices, especially when shopping for packaged foods in supermarkets, to look at the full ingredients listing of all packaged foods before buying, including food products that have 'CHIA SEEDS INSIDE' labels Yes, changing and improving a dietary habit that one has gotten so used to over years/decades is never easy, but like you said, it is entirely possible. And for many of my patients with chronic lifestyle and dietary habits related diseases, changing and improving their eating habits are not only necessary but also transformational for their health. Thanks for your encouraging comment.Since I posted this video more than 4 months ago, it has received many comments from viewers, some positive, and also many negative and even angry comments. So thank you. I shall take encouragement from encouraging comments such as yours but at the same time, I will also not ignore or disregard the negative comments/feedback but to learn from them and use them as motivation for me to try harder to improve and make better videos. Thank you once again for your encouragement.

Well...to a person who has recently discovered chia seeds...they are magic dust 😂 ONLY BECAUSE they transform a liquid into a weird gel-like substance. 😂 I appreciate your video. I am using them for their fiber content (I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and trying to up my iron and wow, my gut has gotten so uncomfortable. I'm also not down for prune juice very often because it's extremely carb-heavy and though I don't have GD this time, I'd rather avoid extreme carbs anyway). That being said, thanks for your info! I plan to have chia seed pudding with fruit, coconut milk, cinnamon and nuts in the morning a couple times a week. =)

I’ve been thinking about incorporating chia seeds into my diet and have a large bag of them that has gone unused. The thought of chia pudding never sounds appealing. The message that they’re not a magic pill seems like it would be obvious, but people will do anything so we don’t have to change our habits. The best idea I got out of this video was to keep a small bottle of chia seeds by my stove and to sprinkle them on my regular foods, much as I would seasonings. I think this will work much better for me than to try and make special dishes from them.

Sorry, my bad 😓. The motivation for this video came from my seeing many people, including my patients, not doing enough to improve all aspects of their lifestyle and diet for health and to combat chronic diseases, even though they may be enthusiastically taking Chia Seeds and Other Superfoods. Chia seeds are a great healthy ingredient, full of nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, with many possible health-promoting properties. But yet, at the same time, they are do not take away, in any way or to any degree, the need to still do the necessary to improve all aspects of one's lifestyle and dietary habits. that I would encourage everyone to keep handy in their pantry. I made this video desiring to remind people NOT to be distracted by the 'Healthy Halo' of 'Superfoods' such as Chia Seeds when making food choices, especially when shopping for packaged foods in supermarkets, to encourage everyone to look at the full ingredients listing of all packaged foods before buying, including food products that have 'CHIA SEEDS INSIDE' labels. Thanks once again for your feedback. I shall take that serious and shall endeavour to do better for my future videos. Have a great day! Best Regards! Doc

Hello I'm commenting on this video in December 2023. I currently incorporate 2-3 spoonful of chia seeds to my daily meals. I myself don't experience any adverse reactions to them. However, I came across a video by Dr. Steven Gundry stating that chia seeds have lectins therefore are inflammatory and should be avoided. Please share if anyone here have any good or bad experiences with chia seeds.
