As a wrestler in high school when this came out, the soundtrack was all that was in my Sony Walkman before matches. I really identified with Louden because at 5'4" tall, I cut from 127 lbs to 105 lbs in the two months prior to the season. It is still one of the things that I am most proud of because it is one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I was only an above average wrestler but a phenomenal weight cutter. Unfortunately, they don't give you medals for that.

The log scene inspires me to this day... Shute very carefully and methodically strode up the steps carrying that heavy load on his shoulders, and that my friends is often the way it is for me in real life - literally as well as figuratively. I just try to tackle life's heavy loads the way Shute demonstrated in the movie: get a good grip, keep your feet squarely planted on the ground, and proceed forward, one careful step at a time. You'll get through it. Thank you, Shute.

This movie came out the spring of my 8th grade year. I broke my leg the year before (spiral fracture left tibia) and just got out of the cast at its release. I wanted to wrestle so bad after. My freshman year of HS I was ineligible due to both grades and I couldn't get medical cleaance for my leg. Once I got my grades up and the clearance got approved the coached tossed me in for the last dual of the year. K weighed in at 128 but wrestled at 140. I got squashed in the 1st. Then I got tossed into the sectionals and got crushed even worse 2x. The next year I was a 157 and got crushed my first 2 matches. So started off career 0-5. Finally got some win. Got more losses and didn't place in sectionals. Then I got serious and wrestled that whole summer. 12 tournaments and over 100 matches. I came back a jacked super confident 160lber Jr and ripped through my duals and tournaments that year. Pinned almost everyone. Then choked as the #2 seed in the sectionals. We to the states at a 5th place alternate. I had to watch the 4 guys who placed higher get crushed by other kids I beat that summer. I came back my senior year won sectionals and States then placed 6th in New England. Thank you VisionQueat!!😢
