The chestnuts are roasted and it's something very typical of Portugal and they only come out in Autumn.... they are nham. For surfing Ericeira or Nazare are the best places. ♥

You missed all the good restaurants in Lisbon! We have amazing vegan options. When you come back go to Jardim dos Sentidos, Jardim das cerejas (Indian food), Ao26 for the amazing snickers pie and burgers and Veganeats for sweet treats :)

My girlfriend and I just visited lisbon when the web summit was on! Would have been cool to meet you guys. The vegan food on offer in lisbon is really good. I was in Lisbon (I’m from San Francisco ) in 2015....a bit tough for a vegan.... Berlin was so easy but Lisbon was still so meat centric. Would love to go back and see what its like now.

Had a similar experience in the south of Portugal near Faro, not a lot of vegan/vegetarian food but the stuff we found was beautiful - great produce in Portugal and ready for a Vegan Revolution!

It's a shame you didn't have time to seek out some of Lisbon's amazing veggie restaurants! It's true that the traditional Portuguese cuisine is all animal-based, but there's a strong vegan scene in the capital. Let me know next time you're in town, and I'll take you out to dinner!

I wonder whether anybody in Portugal has developed vegan pasteis de nata! I loved them when I visited Lisbon a few years before turning vegan. It would be such a success!

I've been looking for these since I moved to Lisbon in January. They're hard to find! There's a German woman in town named Yuki who is a vegan pastry chef and can make pasteis de nata on request. You can find her blog at allyouneedisveg[dot]com. Otherwise, Caitlin from The Vegan Word has a vegan recipe for pasteis de nata on her site, theveganword[dot]com, so you can make your own even when you're not in Lisbon!

I would love for my country to invest more in vertical natural farming... it would make it so much easier to have a healthy diet if vegetables and fruit prices and availability didn't fluctuate so much. There is still good farmland here but modern natural farming methods, except for a few visionaries, are not that much implemented.

There are lots of vegan-friendly restaurants in Lisbon, and some Italian places even offer pizza with vegan cheese! But you do have to seek out the veg-friendly ones.

Love the travel Vlog. I've just got back from a fabulous yoga retreat at Casona de Con in Mestas de Con, Asturias and ate the most amazing vegan food. Every meal was both healthy and delicious. Vegan sobrasada for breakfast, so much better than the original. Truly inspiring. If you think getting vegan is challenging, try looking for vegan or vegetarian gluten free. Namaste 🙏🏻

The Happy Pear It was! Google osawa manzana and you'll find a great recipe for a portable oat based breakfast. Like a cross between flapjack and porridge. Even better with Elena's apple purée smeared on top. Recipe will be in Spanish but not a problem for you guys. 😄

Come to Minneapolis! The Midwest has a not so great reputation for being not very vegan-friendly, but the Twin Cities have GREAT vegan food! We also have plenty of lakes to go swimming in, even during the winter! 😉☃️

I liked J. Selby's brunch too! I've only been once because I live in a western suburb, and it's kind of far, but I'd like to go again. I really used to love the Triple Rock Social Club, but they are closing/closed. I'm vegetarian/aspiring vegan, and so I'm not 100% the places I'll mention all have true vegan options. Pizza Luce for vegan pizza is my go-to delivery. Afro Deli on the UMN campus has some good vegetarian stuff. Amazing Thailand and Nico's Tacos (they have nopales!) are some other favorites. Muddy Waters in Uptown also has quite a few vegan menu items. Modern Times also has good brunch. I believe moto-i has vegan ramen, but don't quote me; same with Kiyatchi. My favorite restaurant, The Copper Hen, isn't really vegan-friendly, but they do make everything to order and are super willing to do substitutions, and quite a few things can be made vegetarian. If you eat dairy, their tomato-dill soup is to die for. My experience in the twin cities is that there are a lot of places that are happy to make things vegan/vegetarian without giving you too much gas about it, and quite a few places you wouldn't expect have vegan/veg menu sections that are surprisingly extensive. You just never know here. Also I'm just in love with our food scene - I moved here for grad school, and everyone talked so much crap about the food before I got here. Sorry, this was long! I'm hungry and love talking about food.

Oh, and most pubs have vegan burgers and often mock-duck tacos. I got so used to not being able to eat in pubs, and then all of a sudden here, everyone has a home-made vegan patty, etc.
