Jim Kanzler was my first climbing instructor back in the 70's. Pat Callis and Terry Kennedy were early mentors of mine and taught me many lessons that kept me alive and safe in the mountains and crags. Thanks for posting this, I remember when it happened and it was devastating for the Bozeman , climbing community.

While it would be nice to see some historical photos I appreciate all your on location photos with clear labels. I 've lived in MT for 43 years, know some climbers and have never heard of this. My next trip to Glacier will include an honor to them. Thank you. Great work!!

Could someone explain why they would have made the first attempt in winter?
@samanthaw38456 күн бұрын
Such a sad story. I wonder if these five got too complacent (Edit: or too self-confident?) given their experience, and that’s why they continued the climb when advised not to? Regardless, my heart goes out to their families.

Young, about to make history, ignoring advise from someone more experienced. Oh definitely

Sounds like dumb kids thinking they can handle a deadly mountain how could the family let them go there kids.
@Throughtheireyes916 күн бұрын
They were advised by Bob Frauson and family members not to attempt the climb during winter. I guess its the excitement of being the first in history played a big role

@Throughtheireyes91 i think inless your a real mountain expert everyone underestimates how deadly they really are. There super dangerous just driving state and federal roads thru them

Oh baloney. College kids of the same age range achieved incredibly remote and difficult technical climbs in Alaska earlier in the 1960s.

@7phyton im not saying it cant be done but theres a high percent of deaths on the mountains. I feel there should be a apprenticeship and a certification before the parks let people climb. People like you are the problem just cuz some guy climbs k2 dont mean u can and thsts why there all dead cuz they think like you.

@7phyton im not saying it cant be done but theres high % of deaths on the mountains especially for people with less experience. I feel there should be a apprenticeship program and a certification before parks let them climb. Just cuz some guy climbs k2 dont mean you can your thought process is why people die on the mountains.
