For anyone interested in playing with eq try the one below. It may look like some big changes but it really isn't. It oddly removes some of the grain and gives vocals a more natural sound. They get a touch more body and lose that edge in consonants. It also gives the treble some more air and helps horns stand out a bit more even though it almost sounds like the level of horns are lowered just a touch. Stock I notice some horns get lost in some Postmodern Jukebox songs. Personally I don't find the bass on my pair to be too much but leaving out the 60hz adjustment doesn't change any of the postive qualities of the eq. The 1475hz could probably be left out as well. It doesn't seem to change much. All I really notice is a touch more power in some vocals which I personally like. Pre Amp -5db 60hz - (1, Q2) (optional) 1475hz - (1, Q5) (optional) 3890hz - (4, Q7) 5665hz - (4, Q7) 8500hz - (-4, Q6) 12177hz - (5, Q6) 17220hz - (5, Q7)
@Vaxeri Жыл бұрын
This is a great tuning that adds brightness and clarity without causing sibilance. 5665hz can potentionally cause harshness, so it's worth trying if the tuning sounds good without this peak or at lower value.

Hope this helps someone: The K371 has a much louder volume than the dt 770 (32 ohms) when plugging into standard mobile devices and laptops with a much punchier bass. You can crank up even more power by adding a portable DAC on both but would not need it in my personal opinion for normal day to day listening.

114dB SPL/V on the AKG K371 vs. 96dB SPL/V on the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro. Yeah, the K371 are crazy sensitive for over-ear headphones are really don't need much power to get insanely loud. On my HiBy R3 Pro Saber DAP I could barely use 30% volume on single-ended output before it was too loud to listen to. Even the output from my Samsung Note 9 was more than sufficient to power them to unlistenable levels of output volume.

This retailed for $149 3 years ago? Wow. It's $190 now. I got it with an Amazon sale for $155. I went with a amp/convert to type-c combo for mobile use when I travel. Out of the headsets I tried out, these were the best cleanest sound. Long term concerns over quality, but we shall see. They were comfortable to use for 4 hours of streaming edm. I felt the headphone pressure on my ears for a few minutes after taking them off though. I think for my first pair of headphones since a Razer or Corsair gaming set, these are great. More than I normally pay on a pair, but I care more about sound quality for live streaming festivals and radio broacasts of edm, than I used to. It helps my mental health. I do like bass heavy for hardstyle, but not to the point it causes ear pain and headaches. I think the K371 are the right first pair to begin my audiophile journey with. Guitar Center talked me into trying the Sennheiser HD200 first, but I returned them. I found the upper bass and mid tones too muddy for my liking. And the earmuffs to small for me. I had pain after 30 minutes.

These honestly aren't as good as most reviewers are claiming. I bought them and sold after about 3 months. The sound is flat and detailed, but amidst the 2-4k area the sound is just super underwhelming, like it sounds either distorted or just really lacking something. Also the ear cups flatten so much eventually that my ear was touching the driver, which was annoying, though i have a pretty big head so it likely squeezed them above average. Idk they are better than m50x and m40x but I would instead opt for some dt770s or 6xx's personally.

I just got these last week. Can someone tell me if I'm nuts, cause my pair sound great overall, but way too flat for my tastes. The bass is weak imo, and I know that's at least partly because I do like a lot of bass. My previous pair were a rather cheap pair of EKG E900 Pro gaming headphones which were the most bass-heavy headphones I've ever had. It was a bit more than they could handle, but I did enjoy it more often than not especially when listening to hip hop/rap. I've tried oratory1990's EqualizerAPO/Peace preset, and it's a lil better but not really. He mentions that the third band/105hz is where I can adjust for bass and increasing it from 5.5 to 8.2 helps but it's still...idk, eh? This bothers me the most because I've seen several people talk about how bass heavy they can be and I'm just not seeing that. Any ideas?

Helpful video! I've already got the open-backed DT 900 Pro X for mixing/mastering, but I'm looking for something closed-back & cheaper like the K371 for monitoring vocals as i speak/sing, and also ambient sound samples/field recordings with my Tascam recorder. So I don't need the _best_ quality headphones for that stuff, but I'd still like them to be as neutral as possible for this general price-range. Are the K371s neutral enough for those purposes? Any recommendations?
@mndlessdrwer2 жыл бұрын
Just for vocals, I'd say the K371 are basically a cheaper version of the Sennheiser HD650. Mids and lower treble region graph very, very similarly. The K371 just have a bit more upper treble gain and CONSIDERABLY more bass and sub-bass, but it is tightly controlled enough not the bleed into the mids. They're going for about $110 right now and I honestly don't think there's a single headphone in that price bracket or below that competes favorably against them. Just the fact that I can compare the mids against those from the HD650 should demonstrate that. If you want the ultimate in neutrality then no. The K371 are harman with considerable sub-bass and bass gain, so they're not going to sound terribly off, but if you mix with them then you're going to produce some anemic sounding mixes because of the bass gain. For vocals and most instruments, you'll likely find them to be adequate for sampling and some monitoring if you have more accurate speakers or headphones to mix with.

The Harmon Target claims to be what the majority of listeners like. Do people actually believe that a sample size of 249 people would represent the majority of headphone listeners? We have no idea what music they listened to or the equipment they used and again it was only a sample size of 249 people. It's ridiculous and a joke that should not be taken seriously, ever. It's nothing more than a marketing ploy that went mainstream and I really wish people would wake up.

We actually do know what they listened to. I implore you to read through the AES collection on this topic. It's massively comprehensive research.

@absolutium2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha There is no way you can compare Apple earpods to Studio Headphones.. Earpods: 80hz-15,000hz K371: 10hz-35,000hz "Bass" is everything under 80hz ..but having headphones capable of ultra low frequencies DOESN'T mean the music has to have bass. It completely relies on the range and quality of the Master.

I'm trying to see how bassy these are compared to the Beats Solo i had back in 2010... From past experience when people say "bassy" they don't mean bassy.. its flat... so i'd rather make my own choice on that one. Are these worth it?

These are good walking around headphones. Can easily be driven by a phone. As for reference or studio mixing phones? NOPE. They're a bit spotty in some areas when it comes to sound.
@LostStylus3 жыл бұрын
Which phones are good for mixing? I am researching this for two days and my head is spinning. Every pair of headphones that is said to be for studio mixing has a comment like this saying that they are no good.
@numinous1233 жыл бұрын
@@LostStylus It's kind of tough. The 371's are pretty good, but before AKG was bought by Harmon Karmon, I would have said almost any of their studio reference phones were great. But I doubt it now. However, the old AKG engineers started their own company called Austrian Audio. Now, I hear those a great, but they have two versions that are slightly different. Don't get me wrong, these are decent headphones, but I have an old AKG headphone, and this one, and you can tell the difference in sound. Some notes come through very clear on one, and not on the other. The problem is some muddiness in some high an low notes. But maybe it's nit-picking. Also, if you're just doing some dubstep electronica stuff, really, you don't need to be sophisticated. The AKG 371's are "good enough". Make no mistake, they're probably better sounding than most headphones you've listened to, but there are ones that are a bit better, if you're willing to pay for it. If you want closed backed, the AKG K553 MKII looks good (make sure it has a removable cable), but depending on what you want to spend, I might go with Austrian Audio. They're what AKG used to be, and their stuff is made in Austria.... not china. Very high quality and build, for a decent price, if you're willing to spend that much. Less slave labor, if that's a thing you care about. Look up some videos on the subject. I personally have the 371's for walking around and light listening. I go for my AKG 702's (pre Harmon Karmon purchase) for heavy listening at home, and they can be used for mixing in some settings, but they're open back, so you can't used them in noisy environments. Yes... I know it's confusing.
@numinous1233 жыл бұрын
@@LostStylus Actually, ignore my previous comment on the 371's. For the money, they're really good. I realize I've been too used to the open back headphones I wear, and after hearing some reviews on Austrian Audio, I'm thinking that the 371's might actually be better than Austrian's HI-X55 when it comes to sound quality. It's all subjective. If you want these for mixing, go for it. They sound better than they should for what you're paying for them. The 371's have a slightly better build than the 361's, as it uses more metal. You also get 3 quality cables with these headphones, including a coiled one, which on its own sells for over 30 bucks. So you're getting about 70 dollars worth of cable with these headphones. They take a few days to break in. So be aware.

@@numinous123 : Would you recommend K712 for Classical Musical and Movies ?
@numinous1233 жыл бұрын
@@peplegal8253 Oh, Hell yes. I have the k702's, and they're great. But I know the K712's are even better. If you can get them on some sort of deal, like on Massdrop, I say, go for it. Make sure your deck can drive them properly. They need a bit of power to run, and plugging them into a phone for listening isn't going to cut it.
