Where was race even mentioned? Two elite strikers with high standards, big egos and a desire to be the best of the best didn't get on. What was colour or ethnicity got to do with it? Schmeichel and Keane didn't get on and even came to blows during a drunken hotel-brawl. Was that race-related too?

I’m a spurs fan so Sheringham was one of my favourite players growing up. I can absolutely recall several instances where Sheringham has had a sulk when his number has gone up and he’s getting subbed. Whether he deliberately snubbed Cole or not is open to debate. I’ve met Cole and spoke to him briefly and he was pleasant, it’s interesting that he has the arrogant and moody tag when there are many people who’ll tell you that could easily be applied to Sheringham.

I can only speak from my own experience. I wrote a letter to Teddy Sheringham when I was 16 years old after he left Millwall for Nottingham Forest thanking him for the season he had for Millwall, scoring 41 goals and for probably being the best player I've ever seen at my club. I expected nothing back because I just wanted to tell him. He sent a handwritten letter in reply along with two signed photographs. That meant a lot to me.
