AAAAAAND . . . What was Tran just saying about using tariffs as a negotiating tool? Word just came out that Sheinbaum is sending 10,000 troops to stop drugs from getting across the border and Trump has suspended the tariffs against Mexico for a month to carry out further negotiations.

I'd rather have neither. If we nationalized our recourses, which belong to us and not some group of oligarchs, we would get out and stay out of this financial mess we are in. Every time you put gas in your car or turn on your gas heater at home, you are paying a "tax" to an oligarch.

Lynda Tran's argument is rather silly. Most people in the US will hardly notice the tariffs, but they are a very strong tool in Mexico, Canada and China.

Canadian lumber companies have been moving to the US southeast for years while closing mills in Canada. Partly due to the long-standing tarrifs on Canadian lumber.

Canada already had high tariffs on many US goods prior to this and they will put a 25% tariff on all US goods after tomorrow. We will see who caves in first and decides to negotiate a more balanced trade deal. My guess is that Canada because of its already insanely high cost of living will capitulate within a month.

The only reason Canada has a trade surplus is because American companies love buying huge amounts of discounted heavy crude. The oil is priced below market value, and the strong US dollar allows for incredible purchasing power, leading to more inexpensive finished products in the USA.

Oil is not discounted voluntary. America bids the price down and then punished Canada for cheap oil. It's Canada who is being ripped off.

We, in Canada, are supporting oil, gas and power embargo and extensive boycotting of US products, services. Common consumers are checking for US origins grocery stores, hardware, vehicles , etc, etc

Not to be rude, but are you also no longer watching any of our media (music, movies, shows)? Are you also no longer watching or attending NHL and MLB games? Are you also not going to fix any of your cars? To boycott the US is much more difficult when our culture is infested in almost all nations sorry to say. The reason why the United States always had these policies around the world. So that the United States can maintain their Imperial power. So that they can maintain their leadership in the world. These are leverages.if you take them away.. countries will begin to move on their own and if they move on their own the United States will lose its foreign policy leverage and ultimately it's hegemony.

I could be wrong, but i think the pharmaceuticals they are talking about are generics that people in this country use en masse. At least that was the issue prior. I may be wrong, but he may be going after Canada as he does not want that to be the preferred route to get things in ths country once Mexico is shut down.

If you didn't know the US southeast produces more lumber than the entirety of Canada now. Canadian companies have been divesting from Canada while building and buying sawmills down here. There has also been a longstanding lumber dispute between the US and Canada so this is nothing new in the wood business.

Americans don't have any choice but to suffer inflation under monetize debt policies. We can choose to buy other products or go without certain products in the case of tariffs. Most rational people know that to fix the system there's going to be some short-term pain. I'd rather have short-term inflation restoring a more manufacturing conducive environment in America as opposed to printing vast amounts of currency to fund Ukraine and every other lunacy
