@JMag13 жыл бұрын
As an EMT with 7 years experience in the field, I can say that kneeling on someone's neck for 9 minutes is what most likely killed him, not fentanyl. When opiods like fentanyl cause an overdose the patient won't have dilated pupils, they will have pinpoint pupils, which is a finding that indicates an overdose, and we would then administer Narcan to hopefully reverse the effects of the drugs in the patients system. So if you're saying that Mr. Floyd was just some drug addict who died of an overdose, then you don't know what you're talking about.

Hi Anna Walsh. Why should they be scared if the public bystanders could see they were making an attempt to revive Floyd? The EMs officers always carry an emergency box with them to provide first assisted respiration before thinking of moving the patient. It did not happen in Floyd's case, for reason perhaps, they took the view, he was dead, but that is the decision of the ER doctor to make on arrival at the hospital, having been provided with the history of what had happened.

They did not act properly in this situation where there was serious urgency. Having said this, I do not think that, had they conformed to protocol, that Floyd's life would have been saved because he did suffer from 'a brain injury' as was submitted by one of the specialist doctors. I was not surprised to have heard that. Floyd's head looked congested with blood as I saw it on the day, when he took his last breath. I was not expecting that. So, so sad! I did not get the point in Court as to how long they have been in the job. That was crucial. One does not send newly qualified officers on a highly serious cases without support. Hi Beverly Daniels-Reeves We would have been in a better position with those queries, had he taken the stand. As to whether that question would have been asked, is another thing. In my observation, I believe Chauvin froze in fear- psychosomatic attack- , which he hid perfectly well. It was otherwise bizarre & extremely evil of him to have ignored the pleadings of Floyd & the crowd. He possibly done the hat of superiority in order to conceal that fear. It also may be, he had a grudge against Floyd & felt it was his time to make even by humiliating him, this is supported by his questio Another proposition of mine is that, having previously used his knee to subdue a teenager for 17 minutes, who obviously survived it, Chauvin possibly, believed 9.29 minutes was safe, totally forgetting the fact that he had two others assisting him in this instance & Floyd had an underlined heart condition, making him extremely vulnerable & his action to be negligent, if he knew of this fact, leading to the untimely death of Floyd. May he rest in peace.

Hi Molon Labe. I am glad you also made out what I have said should have happened in your comment. The messages received by the EMs officers; who sent them has to be scrutinised because if they were expected to call on a completely flat patient, it is their duty to try to maintain free airway, reverse acidosis, set up an infusion to ensure the veins do not collapse; possibly, give intravenous glucose, CPR & an analeptic before handing him over to the ER doctor at the hospital. I do not understand why the EMs officers have not detailed what they actually did in an attempt to revive Floyd. Whether they followed procedure or not, the chances of Floyd surviving that injury was slim, since it was learnt he suffered brain damage. Looking at Floyd on the pavement, in the video, his head looked congested with blood & I am not surprised at all, that he sustained brain injury.

Every engaged professional on the scene behaved in a very casual manner. It’s as if death is commonplace and does not require either accountability or humanity. The Asian officer was clearly more focused on his maintaining a perimeter and playing the tough guy, and dismisses himself of any responsibility, even though so many bystanders were telling him that George was either dying or already dead. The total disregard for human life here, is frightening. I have a feeling that these paramedics have been in this situation before. They did not seem intimidated by the police officers, but they have probably learnt not to challenge them over matters, even on matters as grave as this one was. To clarify further I was only saying you were right re: it was more important to get him to the ambulance- which it was. Especially since the EMT's observed no pulse, no breathing or chest rising/falling Floyd appeared deceased ( not in cardiac arrest but actually dead ) and to add to that horrifying situation you had an understandably angry crowd of onlookers. They needed to get George Floyd into their rig as safely as possible and then work on trying to resuscitate him in that emotionally charged situation. Also it was the EMT's that had to tell Chavin to move out of the way as he was blocking access to George Floyd and the EMT also had to remove the handcuffs themselves because the officers wouldn't. Those ex cop's set the tone, the pace etc..

I have not so far been able to establish how long Floyd had been in a state of no respiration & when the EMS officers arrived on the scene. This time is important in order to establish what urgency of treatment was required. If breathing has been absent for longer than 3 minutes, time is very important as success relies on how quick resuscitation is provided & whether the outcome will be effectively good without being presented with a brain damaged person. So far. I have not been able to establish that from the witnesses - the EMS & medical specialists. I am not sure whether they did & I simply have not got it.

Why would a paramedic waste time putting a patient into an ambulance he should have first checked pulse eyes and airway. Then instead of moving him their job is to immediatly open his airway and start chest compressions. The emt as much as said this on the witness stand. But only done so in the ambulance. As he said time is critical. But then waited to give critical care after loading the patient into ambulance. Critical care is given immediatly not after a few minutes unloading the stretcher then placing the patient on the stretcher then loading the stretcher into the ambulance. How long do you think it took all this process to happen ? While all the time he wasnt breathing or have a pulse. That isnt treating a patient as critical. Between 3 to 5 minutes wasted on the critical care the patient needed straight away. More questions than answers in this case.

British viewers will find the importance of Fire service equipment and personnel in US mystifying. British fire-fighters are well trained and equipped to help with resuscitation and incident-related health emergencies when attending at a fire or at incidents where their equipment is most suitable for recovering people, but would quickly call in ambulances for transfers to hospital etc. In a medical emergency at home, the automatic reaction of the public would be to call for an NHS ambulance, equipped and staffed to deal with a great range of medical emergencies on site and en route to ER. Why?. . . .Because the Ambulance Service is FREE!.. People highly respect this service as they do all branches of the NHS, and in general do not use it frivolously, except sometimes out of ignorance. They would call on the Fire service predominantly for FIRES (though police will call them in to assist with extractions etc at major road accidents) and occasionally to rescue a cat stuck in a tree! I learned about the importance of US firefighters as the Ambulance of the Poor when on a Ride-Along with a student of mine who was also a cop in Jacksonville. He explained that they would work with the Fire service if they encountered (as indeed happened that night) someone they thought needed oxygen or a stretcher-ride to a hospital. I respect their skills and ethos, but it still seems weird to a Brit!

@JohnThePA3 жыл бұрын
Yes, because 4-6 minutes of significantly decreased blood flow to the brain kills you. Have you even been involved in CPR? I see patients in the Emergency Department. We get very high blood oxygen levels when resuscitating a dead person - as we're literally ventilating the patient and circulating oxygen-rich blood. The doesn't change the fact that they are irreversibly brain dead and in cardiac arrest with little chance of attaining ROSC.

Ideal prehospital cardiac arrest is with four individuals (usually two ambulances are dispatched): two individuals switching between compressions / manage the defibrillator, one ventilating the patient and managing the airway, and a paramedic to lead the resuscitation / gain IV access / provide timely medications. You can do CPR with one person OR you can run a code in the hospital with 8 people around... There's no right number, but having more help is better (to an extent).

There are no guidelines to determine what level of opioids causes an o.d. That depends on that persons history of drug use. If a person who never used an opioid should take the amount taken by somebody who uses opioids for say years that person would die of an overdose while the same amount makes an experianced user not even high. The human body grows accustomed to opioids and a longterm user can handle far higher levels then somebody who isn't used to opioids. So to say George Floyd died of an overdose because he had a high level of fentanyl in his body is ridiculous. They only say that to make it look like the cops are not to blame.
