On today’s episode the History Guy tells the stories of two New York City riots, both of which began over seemingly trivial issues. First he tells the story of the Shakespeare riot, when a disagreement over who played the better Macbeth turned deadly. Then he tells the story of the straw hat riots, when fashion and a particularly warm day ended with thousands of hats smashed on the streets of New York City.

I keep learning how historically accurate the movie, Gangs of New York, really is. I knew it was based at least partially on real events, though history really is harder to believe than fiction sometimes.

I WANT to enjoy the conversation between father and son, BUT I find it VERY FRUSTRATING the way thar dad interrupts and talks over his son. Can you “pass the ball” back and forth without grabbing to dominate the conversation? It does get better as you go along. Thanks for all you both do to bring us such wonderful history!
