I loved the extremes that season. The annuals were saying Jagr was only going to manage 80 points without Francis, but he had other plans and was dominant with 127 points (whoops), and Hasek was Hasek. But there was one annual with a great sense of humor: for team projections it had a "Will Make the Playoffs if" section, and for teams like Detroit, Dallas, and Colorado, it said some variation of "If the team laces up each night."

Jagr’s Game 6 of the ‘99 1st round vs. the Devils (he calls the biggest of his career) definitely deserves a shout out or its own video!!!! He played 30/68 minutes on a badly injured groin, tied the game in the 3rd and won it in OT. Then dominated game 7 in NJ, giving the Pens another round of home game revenues and probably saving them from relocation.

This was the season Lindros was on pace for another MVP and than his lung collapsed in March, and never played again that season. As a Flyers fan, this was another ‘what if’ year because of a Lindros injury.
@matthewdaley7465 жыл бұрын
If only Lindros could play as well as he could whine.
@wilnerolivier79715 жыл бұрын
That incident with the collapsed lung basically severed the ties between Flyers & Lindros!! Lindros had a lot of shit thrown at his direction while The Toothless 1(Bobby Clarke) never got any blame for how that situation went down. Clarke humiliated Lindros by making a spectacle of removing the C from Lindros & putting it on Eric Desjardins. Can't stand The Toothless 1 to this day.
@matthewdaley7465 жыл бұрын
@@wilnerolivier7971 Clarke was Captain on the only two Cups that team has ever won, besides b****-and-moan contests, what has Lindros ever won? Don't bother to answer, that question was rhetorical.
@chrisolivo65915 жыл бұрын
Wilner Olivier I think both the Lindros family & Clarke didn’t handle that whole situation well in 99-00. Lindros should have never publicly called out the team doctors as he should have done that behind closed doors. Clarke should have not have publicly stripped the ‘C’ from Lindros as he essentially was saying his days were done in Philly by doing it. The sad thing is we could have won the Cup in 2000, as we were up 3-1 on the Devils as Boucher was playing out of his mind. The obvious choice was to let Lindros play when he was cleared for Game 6, but that hit by Stevens on him in Game 7 took the wind out the stadium and the team that night.
@wilnerolivier79715 жыл бұрын
@@chrisolivo6591 It's easier to say that now in retrospect because of the old adage of not airing your dirty laundry out in public!! However at that time he didn't think about because he could've died had he taken the team doctors advice & flown back knowing that the situation was very dire. When it comes to the Toothless 1 even to this day he still has too much juice inside the Flyers organization. Even though he's arguably the greatest Flyer of them all, that alone doesn't mean that he should be interfering with what Hextall was trying to build & now he is basically pulling the strings of Chuck Fletcher. If people think that Chuck Fletcher is the actual GM of the Flyers they are 100% wrong.

Surprised you didn't comment on one of the biggest and most controversial moments of the 98/99 season. Eric Lindros suffering a collapsed lung in April '99 during a game in Nashville. The Flyers and their medical staff was adamant that Eric should be put on a plane back to Philadelphia, which ultimately didn't happen, but if it did it's said that Lindros would've died. Instead he stayed in the hotel room where teammate Keith Jones found an extremely pale Lindros in the bathtub in the middle of the night. This whole situation kickstarted the whole Lindros vs Clarke feud(although Clarke had the season before said that if Lindros wanna be paid as the best player in the game, then be the best player in the game) and Lindros distrust of the Flyers' medical staff.
