Glad to hear you mention wave eater clips. The power valve dropping on the rear cylinder and contacting the piston is a very common issue on Yamaha 800 & 1200 engines. The problem with the Seadoo is a lean condition. Your good cylinder has a nice wash pattern on the dome. The dome of the bad cylinder is solid black meaning it was lean and ran too hot. The chipped edge on the exhaust side is a result of the too hot piston expanding and catching the edge of the exhaust port.

I got lucky on my wave runner, it was locked up.. But I unseized it and decided to run premix 40:1. It does good after an exhaust water jacket coupling replacement👍🏻 I was also told that you can only run premix in the carburated wave runners because fuel injected ones would burn up with premix.. Make sure you grease the grease certs for the starter and front drive assembly. Also a good idea to replace the grease in the rear drive bearings

I highly recommend checking those bearings on your crankshaft. Ericksons machine and performance did a video spinning them up with air to test them. I destroyed good pistons by trying to remove the crankshaft end bolts with an impact wrench by leaving them on after pulling the heads once. Yes I had them wrapped in cloth they still broke the tabs off the lower ends. I got my GP1300R going and will be test riding today. You have a good shop setup.

It's too bad that you didn't know about the sand in the water jackets before you tore it down. You could have flushed it with water without the risk of getting sand in the crankcase. That didn't run lean! it had so much wear that a ring hung exhaust port and after that friction melted it. If you run a inside mic on the one you say is good! You will find it has lots of wear in the area around ports! Egged so to speak. The areas with sand is just dead casting area and had nada to do with it. a over heated or no oil will have scoring about 360 degrees of piston. I have literally rebuilt 100's and 100's of the 96-97 GTX 787's. be sure and chamfer the ports even if they say is good. Also listen 200 hrs. on one of these 787 engines is like a truck with 200000 miles. wsm pistons are fine. Ive been a dealer with them over 20 years. As well as SBT. I bet in all the decades Ive made a living on these Ive only seen 2-3 seals rear and front go bad not counting polaris! Like other guy said shaft is fine. but dig in the pto balancer a ruber bumper is in there or whats left of it.
@dgc9402 жыл бұрын
Also fyi on the rotary valve if you advance one tooth will give better low end or if you retard better top but each will rob from the other! The center seals on seadoo are what go bad but you cant change when this happens oil will leach into cylinders and smoke like heck when sitting a while or hydro lock the piston after sitting. The carbs have small filters under pump that stop up because seadoos water catch fuel filter has a bypass and are junk! don't use it put a inline on it. Also fyi the round metering carb diaphragms on the seadoo are same as Yamaha but Yamaha is way way cheaper! do not use the aftermarket kits they are garbage!! 99.9% time the fuel pump diaphragms are just fine! Hold them to the light no holes no problem. and 99% the time you can just reuse the needle and seats if you don't remove the seats!!!! remember the fuel pump is sucking so if a fuel line leaks it will suck air the on off reserve valves get stopped too and they are cheep new.

I've had a few toy's in my day and that's one reason I just wouldn't let anyone ride my Banshee, because some people when they get out of sight and earshot they would dog it out redlining every gear an possibly rolling your shit you name it.. I get they're meant to ride hard but there's a difference between that and dogging the shit out of it because when someone let me ride there toy I completely respected it rode it like it was mine... That's another reason it's sketchy to buy stuff like that off people you don't know cause there's no telling how bad they ragged on it or what kind of maintenance and how often. Especially the toyz of today they all are stooooopid expensive....
