Car Won't Start! Battery Drain on Back Up Fuse 29 🔋

2014 Honda Civic (9th generation) has a battery/parasitic drain problem. Two batteries were replaced, the alternator, as well as the relays in the fuse box under the hood. @@johnb1121 You want to use something that has no resistance at all, just like the switch itself, the resistor is the first thing I found. We’re just trying to complete the circuit, as the hood switch would do. 👍🏼

I can't explain how thankful for this video, I just fixed the exactly the same problem of my car. It is the door lock! I barely know nothing about cars, but I do remember some physics form middle school lol. This is the best video ever for me. My 2011 Accord has the same drain on the same fuse "backup" number 15 for me. I ended up finding the Bluetooth transmitter module was not shutting off. Causing my battery drain.

master technician, straight to the point, I am having same issue with my 2016 honda odyssey EX-L, #16 back up fuse keep draining battery, but not able to locate the problem. parasatic amp draw test with 60mA. just leave it as is. no problem with daily drive, but will have to unplug the #16 fuse when not driving the van for more than 3 days.

Just wanted to put some extra comments here. My issue is caused by the key. The keyhole is damaged and is stuck at about half open position. Apparently, someone unsuccessfully tried to break in and damaged the keyhole. Took me half day to figure it out.

Thanks man! I saw the voltage drop on the one that I had but when I pulled the fuse I didn't wait long enough and I overlooked it. After seeing your vid o went back and sure enough after waiting about 10 seconds the draw went down. Mine was passenger front latch. If you leave door disconnected dome will go off and draw disappears. Thanks 👍

Solved a parasitic drain on 2015 Civic with Keyless Entry system with much credit to this video. Ended up being RF outer door handle causing draw of 200ma. It was not easy at all to find the issue but I would highly suggest going right to the Keyless Access Control Unit as it is the easiest thing to disconnect when looking for a draw on this particular vehicle and circuit. The back up fuse controls at least about 50 components on the vehicle, so you don’t want to waste a lot of time disconnecting things that don’t need to be disconnected. This is one of the hardest issues to diagnose on any car, if you are having this issue and are not a professional mechanic or a heavily experience DIYer, then I would highly suggest you take it to a reputable shop that specializes in electrical diag. I am a B Tech with a few years of experience, and it took me probably 6-8 hrs of research and disassembly to finally figure it out. Keep in mind I have been working on cars for about 3 yrs have done timing chains, valve adjustments, transfer case, etc some medium to heavy repairs and diag. Just to make the point that I would say it is far more difficult than those tasks. If you take it somewhere and they tell you to start replacing a bunch of parts, you need to go to another shop. It is 100% possible to determine the specific component that is causing the draw, but it is highly difficult. Thanks for the great video, from one mechanic to another, you really made figuring out this issue not such a nightmare. Also I charged the customer 3 hrs of labor for this issue, I did not want them to have to pay for my inexperience, but I feel that is a fair starting point for an issue of this nature.

Thanks Hector! My 2015 CRV EX had a similar parasitic drain(~1A) from fuse 29. So far I isolated to the MICU. I think it has something to do with the door actuator because the drain happens after someone uses the passenger side rear door.

One culprit causing this problem may be the bottom window seals allowing moisture to leak onto the door actuator, on my 2015 civic I noticed the rubber seals do not clear the window condensation when rolled up and down, this means they are not preventing moisture from going inside the door. I changed Starter, Alternator, and Battery and today, after 5 days with the new battery, it did not start. Where should I start being that old of a car? I am located in Toledo, Ohio. Being that the problem was intermittent, i had the car for about 4 days. Had it been there all the time, it would’ve been here no longer than a day. That’s electrical for you, it can be 5 minutes or 5 days to troubleshoot 👊🏼
