What happens if you were to abruptly stop feeding the larvae the royal jelly, and give it a normal diet midway through?

I love your video. I have some questions: So you transfer out worker bee larvae into queen cell cups and worker bees will feed royal jelly to worker bee larvae in queen cell cups,. Is that correct? if it is, how does worker bees recognize it is queen cell cups ( to me, it is just bigger plastic cells)?

Good question. Yes, we transfer worker bee larvae into the queen cups. And yes, the bees recognize the type of cell it is by the size. They know to feed it queen formula instead of worker. More royal jelly, etc.

Is there a queen in the cell starter colony?
@thehoneycompany10 ай бұрын
Nope. We remove the queen (usually put her in a nucleus colony) so that bees feel "hopelessly queenless." Then we add the queen cells and bees quickly get to work raising queens.

Isn't the flash light harmfull for the larvae?
@halfcircleworkshop Жыл бұрын
No, as long as it doesn't get hot. I use an LED magnifying lamp without issues. If it got hot it could dry out or cook the larva

We haven’t noticed it being harmful. It’s a cool light.
