I reckon in that spot the sheer cranking power of the Alvey reigns supreme ! The good thing about spots like that is that it doesn't cop mega traffic because you have to hike in so it keeps the trash away !
@TheHookandTheCook5 жыл бұрын
Ian yes the Alvey is the master reel for this job 650, Gary did well but if the pigs were a bigger run than the fun begins. Thanks for your feed back mate as always. Regards Scotty & Paul

If Gary can make that trek so can I. Just shows you that fishing in winter can be as good as summer when you know when , where and how. Terrific video I would like to see how you cooked them , you said great eating but not sold commercially . Too hard to catch I guess
@TheHookandTheCook5 жыл бұрын
George spot on mate to hard to catch commercially, the odd one will turn up at the markets at times caught in fish traps. Yes great eating species clip coming soon mate, I cooked one of the pigs we caught. Regards Scotty & Paul

Great stuff lads. My mates & I chase pigs with intense hand-to-fin combat up here in Newcastle & Port Stephens all winter from the slippery, wet, weed covered lower ledges - not the dry & very safe ledges like this one in the Royal. Wow - you Sydney-based fishos are spoilt ! Drummer are great sport and magnificent on the plate. _BUT_ I really can't wait to see how you work your _HookandtheCook_ cooking magic on this species. Grateful for any pointers to get the very best out of them.

Hi scotty. Really enjoyed your video . I have rcently been on a trip for a drummer session after your valuable footage. Just a quick question on your rig , what strength of a leader or a mono main line would you recommend? I have recently lost a massive pig while trying to reel it up on a cliff. I used a 25lb platapus mono line. Thank you in advance

You can`t buy these little rippers, hand made years ago by Jeff Spring a local from south of Sydney he was a top rock angler on mostly Luderick and Pigs, he made thousand over the years selling them to local tackle shops in his retirement a skill gone these days. Thanks for your feed back. Regards Scotty & Paul.

Hey Scotty. I fish a lot for drummer as I've told you before but have never done so with a bobby cork (your style looks like fun). Is the cork you're using here 25 mm or 30 mm? An expert float maker in Wollongong can make me either but needs to know the size. I fish the wash zone with either knobs of cunje or whole peeled banana or cooked prawns and I am not sure which size would be better. I value your opinion and expertise that's why I'm asking you. Thanks a lot in advance! Frank
@TheHookandTheCook4 жыл бұрын
Frank you need a cork that will carry some lead along with your bait when fishing in the wash you want to make shore the lead will pull the bait down as this can be a problem in rougher conditions, My corks were hand made years ago from wine corks they measure 30mm across the top and they are 50mm in length from top to bottom. Cork are great to use if you need to fish an edge that you can cast to. If the edge is at my feet I fish with no cork, good luck and yes fishing with a cork is fun when a big Pig take a bait. Regards Scotty & Paul

@@TheHookandTheCook Thanks heaps for all the info. I value your opinion a lot and you got me interested in pig fishing in 2017. Have landed them up to 4.5 kg and 55 cm so far but am haunted by the monster pig I lost at my feet last June after an epic 5 minute plus tussle. That pig was 70 cm + (of prehistoric proportions) and the fish of a lifetime. Plan to hit my pig ledges for next 5 weeks and will let you know how I go. Hope your dad and Gary are well and looking forward to some videos next year (hopefully). Stay well! Frank
