The really cool Ford engine you wanted to build when you were 17. Then you grow up and realize how complicated and expensive it is to build one of these Frankensteins and start shopping for a nice set of standard Windsor AFR heads for your SBF instead. Still, it's cool to watch somebody actually build Frankenstein, cost and complexity be damned.

How do Windsor windsor flow compared to these?
@johnnyringo4463
@johnnyringo4463 Ай бұрын
@@riccocool i think the Clevland has slightly bigger valves since they have an off center design. The Windsor heads/valves are all in line. I dont know personally, but from what I read online that modern Windsor heads are better than Cleveland heads. It was mainly back in the 60s, 70s the Cleveland was considered better.
@I_like_turtles_67

@riccocool probably close to 45cfm more than a nice inline head. Nascar uses a clevor design for their Roush/Yates engines. I like both. However for ease of parts availability. I built a 351w with regular AFR heads.

In dirt track racing we always said, horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, torque is how far you move it
@lassikinnunen
@lassikinnunen Ай бұрын
Torque graph is just an indicator for horsepower. Or rather torque is the number the dynos sensor measures, while hp tells how much work is actually being done. High lower rpm torque indicates higher horsepower available at lower rpm, easier driving, more mph range per gear higher percentage difference in rpms you have power at, if you have power at 2000 to 3000 rpm thats 33% of rpm range you're in power vs if your power band is 5000 to 6000 its only 16%, you'd need double the gears to stay in the power range for the same variation in speeds not that it really matters for a daily you use 20% of the max output driving around for

Believe it or not there are a lot of similarities between small block Ford stuff and my Oldsmobile 455 stuff. Bore sizes are in same ballpark (kinda) center thrust, similar weight in reciprocating assembly. I'll concede to longer rods, stroke and bigger bore, but only a little bit. When I do a 400 inch Olds there are even more similarities. The Cleveland style heads blow away any flow I can get out of my Olds stuff, but the point I'm trying to make is that if one squints it would be hard to tell which engine one is working on. SBC stuff for example is quite a bit different. I'm just trying to make conversation here, I'm not really a Ford guy but I appreciate many aspects of Ford powerplants. When I did my first 460 Ford, it wasn't mine but a good friend let me take the lead on his build for his dad's 67 F100 and it made 550hp/590tq at least than 10:1 comp. Truck ran easy 11.90s and dad was thrilled with the build. I wanted to do a full on 650-700hp build but they both pulled the reins in on that. I've done a few classic 302's and couldn't have been happier with the low buck results. Also fell in love with the exhaust note of classic Fox bodies when they were new. Once I was able to get my hands on one and build it the way I thought would work, well it did. A 550hp sbf running 10.80s n/a is a lot of fun! I will admit this part I don't like....front sump oil pans!

You can buy a cheap ring grinder off the online getting places for very little money. What I did is pulled mine apart, chucked the shaft up in the lathe, trued it up, then reassembled. the runout was comically bad before that. Next I removed the hand crank and rigged it up in the bench vise with a drill attached, and then used the old zip tie on the trigger trick to keep it running hands free. This ended up working really well and I don't think I'll ever go back either.

I am using the Speed master intake to build a 2v mini-boss. The ports on that intake were called "3v" but they are 2v size. I am using open chamber 2v heads with the combustion chambers modified for piston intrusion. 289 rods and cleveland flat top pistons put them .085 out of the hole. If I mill the heads another .050, I can have 10.5:1. It is a full on frankenstein experiment.

More modern Windsor? They have been around since 1960. 351 version mid 60s. Clevo was new in 69 and the tall deck version 71. There is iron small chamber 2Vs. Aussie 302 heads. Those Trick Flows while a good head are way too big for mild engine. They are a race head. Better than Ford 4Vs but still too big. 302 blocks have 7/16 head bolts. As is proven bolts pull differently than studs. And 110 foot lbs on 1/2 'hard' bolts will distort the bore. As will some studs as well. And this is on .020 bores. In reality will good MLS gaskets the 70ft lb is enough and does not distort the block. Even blocks honed with a torque plate distort. That Speedmaster intake was made for their '3V' head which does have intakes lifted. Much the same as the 3V CHI head which is a LOT better piece. 'CHI' have what would be a better head and an intake to suit. 185cc raised port head and a choice of intakes . Dual plane or single. Friend has the 185 heads on a 377 Clevo and it has 500hp at the wheels with a big solid lifrer cam. The engine is about 100% more driveable [and 30 oddhp better] than the hogged out 4Vs with tongues and Parker intake. And 1 3/4 headers that the oversized 2" ones for the 4Vs EFI on a dual plane will cause issues. Engine Masters proved that and I have heard the same from others as well. Chevs and Fords

I must say what a great build coming from a Diehard FE owner (home hobby) builder (Bridgeport, Lathe, Tig, Mig, Plasma, metal bandsaws. This just my 71 year old eyes, at 40:47 to 40:52 time the Snipe's two primary butterflies had different gaps openings to each other throttle closed which would make an engine not bang equally cylinder to cylinder. This especially on a 1600cc Porsche boxer engine that the error your eyes can not see the gap difference yet cylinder rpm's drop testing not equal idle yet allowing for correcting by the link between the two throttle shafts. Snipe's butterflies not centered to the throat bore a production quality control issue? Details builds great engines. At 41:32 ending at 41:45 ending the dyno pull it looked like cylinder number six's header tube was starting to glow red/orange vs still black with cylinders 5, 7 & 8. Header issue or F/A feeding cylinder 6? More like quality control or increased backpressure on cylinder 6 vs the rest not having a view of cylinders 1 to 4. A very mild having lower rpm's Tq. and Hp being a more practical daily driven 48 Ford pickup with city and highway speeds use the ultimate engine install yet being able to install a "flattie" someday which was missing with truck purchase.....

Would love to have known ‘clearances’ as you went along. Oh, The only Clever I was aware of was Indy car racer Eddie Cheever. Not affectionately known as the “Clever” because he always seemed to “chop” someone’s car off, at the corner. Hey, just repeating what I have been told 🤔😳

Man for the money you should have built a big block 429 or a 460. I have built lots of ford and chev engines. And money for hp fuel economy the big block is way way better than others. And I do have a Cleveland here that we used 351 crank 302 rods and an off set pistons giving it big block like ft. With a set of 3 v heads a funnelweb inlet manifold and a 850 cfm Holly With a f256 crane cam. And it’s not bad. But the money it costs I could have built a big block that will make twice the power.

460 will make about the same power Just more torque Like most guys as myself they just prefer small blocks

@@94racing88 I’ve been building big blocks since I was 17 years old. 1000 hp na on 98 pump fuel here in Australia with no problem. Even my first cobra jet 429 I had when I was 17 back in 1990 it made 850 hp with a stock set of dove 2 heads that came on it from factory all they needed to make the power was opening up the exhaust ports. And I made my own inlet manifold because I couldn’t buy anything back then besides the factory ones. Which was ok if you only wanted to make 500 hp. The inlet manifold I made with twin 750 dps before I could buy the 1250 dominators. It made the 850hp. Na. With a f256 crane cam. Then I got my hands on two 1250’s and a set of super cobra jet heads off a 1970’s 460. Had to port the exhaust ports. Put bigger valves in them I used a cam with 850th lift. Made another inlet manifold because of the difference size inlets ports with the twin 1250’ it made a 1000 hp at 6800 to 7200. That was 1993. That was for the canon ball run we had in the NT. My old 1966 ford galaxie. I finally hit 200mph. Now days with the new technology and ally heads a 1000hp is shameful. I’m working on another engine that I built back in the 90’s that would have worked if I had the pistons. It was a 429 crank cobra jet rods with 460 pistons and shaved the block to give it 0 deck hight and used a f276 crane cam the I had to play with so it could rev to 9500 rpm. But it made power but only a 1000hp. I couldn’t get the compression up enough for na. But supercharged it made 1500hp for two days until the pistons fell apart. So im playing with it again just to see if it works? If not I can still use the parts in other engines. It’s just the block and inlet manifold that I can sell to someone. But it should work fine with 11/12.1. But I’m thinking just turbocharge it! The clevo I was talking about is now twin turbocharge and it’s not bad at all for a small block. I still have to tune it and see what it makes. I’m guessing around the 1500hp I think maybe??? Oh and all I’m saying is for the money I would go big block. Not trying to say big blocks are better or anything like that. As I said I have built many many engines for myself family and customers. Ford chev Holden diesel Nissan rb30’s rb20’s to 25’s. Ford 4.0 liter barra engines and my favorite the rotary engines. I have built two prototype engines. One 13b turbo dry port with like skyactive injection and a 4.0 liter 4 rotor. That even na will make over a 1000hp. Darren at billetinc built a 2liter 2 rotor from my design. And it is sweet! Cool as guys Cain hard. I would love to hear what you guys are building!!

I know the 5.0 is the flagship motor. But ford really does need to bring back to 351. Like a coyote motor name it coywolf motor. Hybrid between two motors.The potential for that motor back in the truck would be nice.

Try pulling big diesel bolts to 220 ftlbs with a 1/2" torque wrench, 800 ftlbs with a 3/4" torque wrench or 1,200 ftlbs using a 4x torque multiplier and the 3/4" torque wrench. A V12 or V16 with 8 studs around each cylinder with a combination of sizes will work up a sweat.
