Why Im into BFS. 1. I live in Japan 2. I fish for trout. 3. Where I fish is usually tiny streams and dense overgrowth in the mountains. 4. I cast with wrist and flicks only. Smooth and accurete over distance. 5. I use ultra light bait. 5. The delay is less on a cast than a spin. 6. I just dont like spin 😂 It's not just a trend here in Japan, it's been around for half a century here. They've been modding reels almost as long as they've been modding cars

BFS has completely reinvigorated my passion for fishing. I disagree with reason #3 - I find BFS reels to be easier to use than traditional baitcasters. But yeah, if you get sucked into the rabbit hole it can be expensive. On the other hand, they are so many budget options out there these days it’s probably only us fanatics that have to try them all.
@TheHunterFisher Жыл бұрын
I can agree with that, bfs reinvigorated my interest in the details of it all. Got tired of typicall bass fishing. Interesting take on bfs reels being easier, I hear many people run into difficulty getting used to it at first. I know I definitely did at first, I had learned to set reels up completely different from the way that most set up bfs reels. Budget bfs thrives on the ones who spend THOUSANDS😂

My garage and boat are full of both 8 foot XXH swim bait rods and reels and 6 foot UL BFS reels and rods. I have boxes of swimbaits from 4 inches to 12 inches and BFS lures from 1/8 oz to 1/4oz. I probably catch 50 fish on the BFS to one swimbait fish. Thanks for the videos. I am subscribed! I am 63. Been fishing since I was 6 years old. Still loving it.

I have two BFS setups and it is easier to catch fish on a Baitcaster because of the drag adjustment on the fly. Yes it can be costly but not all the time. The Soloking Pro is only $50, but Shimano Conquest is among the best. It is hard to find a quality Light Rod, I use Cajun for $120. It is addicting as you said. Spinning is always acceptable but BFS is so much more fun.

Ali express solved all the BFS rod and reel problems lol... I'm still in shock by how good and affordable everything I got was. If I was buying all Daiwa or Shimano BFS gear I'd be agreeing about the cost being high but at the rate I'm going it's half the cost of my convention BC setups.

as a person who started bfs fishing 10 years ago. the price of it has drastically gone down. its gotten to the point where its arguably cheaper to bfs fish these days. great video but i wanted to point that out. its really cheap to use a reel you already have and get a shallow spool (another reason why daiwa is the best). and the price of these rods these days are cheaper than ugly sticks and are on par with alot of the expensive jdm rods people were paying 500 dollars for 10 years ago.

My 25 yr old All Star Pro II light action 6 1/2’ bait casting rod is great for BFS. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, most of the commonly available bait casting rods had lots of flex just like many spinning rods. Even some of the older reels came with a plastic arbor you could put on the spool for light line and less inertia to cast lighter lures. People need to realize that BFS is just a label for marketing - many of the new BFS rods have actions just like these 20-30 year old rods. Sure, with technology the gear is better now, but I am glad to see the BFS trend because now those of us that want sport with smaller fish don’t have to put up with the decades-long dominance of broomstick rods brought about by what people watched during bass tournaments. Even though it’s still difficult to find a new bait casting rod with light action and low power, the BFS trend is getting people back to bait casting, including many of us that left that way of fishing years ago because light, sporty bait casting rods that bend well with small fish were getting difficult to find.
@timmontano8792 Жыл бұрын
Back when BFS bait casters were introduced onto the fishing market I saw them as nothing more than a marketing gimmick reel aimed at the hardcore gullible bait caster guys. I still think that to this day. For the price of three to five hundred bucks just for the reel I could buy an entire spinning rod and reel or budget baitcaster rod and reel and still have enough for lures and gas to get me to the lake or river. I'm basically a chronically cheap fisherman. My fishing equipment is not top of the line by any means, and even with my cheapo fishing equipment I still catch fish; ultra light or whatever weight I'm fishing. Of all the fish I've caught on my inexpensive fishing equipment, not one single fish I've ever caught has ever complained or been embarrassed for having been caught on cheap fishing gear.

I agree with your opinions my friend...first a try baitcasting on a cheap cdm casting reel for practice...then switch to bfs my only down side in my region is limited access to lures i could buy for bfs fishing and another as a bank angler when fishing in an open water you got a limited area of water to cover because throwing very light lures from the bank doesn't bomb you a hundreds feet...but on close quarters fishing bfs really works amazing, better that spinning...and you know the feeling when you were fighting a huge one on a bfs, it is very "satisfying"... to tell you honestly in the club I joined in, I'm the only one using bfs gears...cheers my friend!!👍🏻👍🏻

Question about casting distance - I like to fish clear rivers and streams where I often value a long cast to avoid spooking the fish with my presence. Can anyone give me something specific to this: I was throwing a 3/32 oz Keitech Jig with a Mule Burro Bug Trailer last week and had a blast on the smallies... If I were to switch over to BFS for this presentation, what type of casting distance should I expect with optimal BFS gear?
@TheHunterFisher Жыл бұрын
That’s primarily depending on what you use for setup on rod, reel, and line. Personally speaking, I don’t think you’ll see a drop in distance with that much weight. You’ll get roughly the same distances once you’ve adjusted to Bait Finesse gear. But more importantly, you’ll see a lot more control.
@mike2687 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHunterFisher - the control is what I’m interested in-well, that and the fun! Yes, I definitely get that the specific gear will be the difference maker. I've fished conventional reels for about 17 years. Many with no cast control at all. I fish conventional reels for almost everything. Even types of fishing where nobody in my country does. They all use spinning rods. I just like the feel of a conventional reel when playing a fish. However when it comes to extremely light line and lures, i just stick to a 1000 or 2000 size spinning reel. I just dont want the hassle. I honestly feel spinning reels are alot more versatile in this area. Im sure thats not a popular opinion here.

As much as I hate, HATE some of your comments here. I have watched this twice now and still find some true value and honesty in the vid on whole and reflecting many of my own BFS perceptions. I really like that you hit the nail on the head (so to speak) talking about the US "...americanized standard of bfs...". But, not only about gear, but philosophy as well. In my heart, true BFS resonates back to creek fishing in Arkansas as a boy with a Zebco 202 Spincaster, 2lb test and a 4ft rod fishing for bluegill only better with a baitcaster. I know that if you asked 10 people what "BFS" is, you would get 8 different answers. The reason I say 8 answers is that people are really exploring what BFS is. For whatever that is, you deserve some credit. Thank you.

From cost, to ease of use, efficiency, and fun I haven't found one downside. There is plenty or resources to find affordable setups. I spent less on BFS than I did my first baitcast combo. It's easier to use than spinning setups and I've only found advantages..spinning setups are idiot proof and so is BFS and baitcast reels in general. If you can't do it you simply haven't given it any effort. It's no more a fad than UL fishing in general is. People from the outside looking in saying it's pointless, well it's no more pointless than a spinning rod when you could just use a cane pole with line and a hook. You can spend more money on absolutely anything in life...BFS'S are no different.
