Reminds me of freezing my feet so many different years in Wisconsin and the up for decades out for the venison steak which by the way Christmas night I've got a big cast iron Dutch oven full of venison ribs my favorite boiled down with potatoes squash sweet potatoes onions garlic lots of fresh ground black pepper and lots of spices cook down on the wood stove I'll eat it for a week because I'm alone but the broth becomes the gravy over the potatoes😊

Snow camo is a must when hunting those skinny trees. You blend in with skyline. Snowshoes will help conserve energy, and save the sore legs the day after. Tough hunting for sure

A few things to note/caution about the OnX open tax law layer. 1)often not all open private properties are listed. 2) The layer doesn't always (rarely in my findings) represent the actual property lines. Check the local dnr online resource for actual boundries and properties not listed. This has been my experience in WI anyway.

Here in Chester County, Pa you will have 30+ deer (no exaggeration at all) in a 2 acre backyard that is impossible to hunt bc of the houses, then I go to a state park down the road where you can hunt thousands of acres and you will not see a deer when hunting it. They have learned over the years how to thrive tucked in these small parcels, and how much people hate coyotes...and sadly also hate hunters. so they are safe

Berks County, PA here. Can confirm. But i've searched overlooked public and have found some decent areas. I plan on scouting deep in French Creek State Park for next season.

Interesting when you talked about guys trying to kick you out of public land. A friend from WI was up there a while ago. He was a couple miles in, parked on an old rail road grade. When he got back to the truck there were three other trucks there. Bunch of guys had him backed up against his truck and threatened to "take him out right here." Scared him pretty bad.

Hey Dan, love to see you guys in Michigan. It doesn't really apply this time of the year but I had a question about how you hunt swamps. Here in Michigan where I live which is central to upper Michigan, we have just about any kind of swamps. My question is how do you determine what is the best way to enter the swamp with boots or hip boots or waders? How do you know the best way to walk through the swamps without falling through all the time? I've started this last year trying to hunt swamps and I've had a few close calls busting through and loosing some boots lol but a couple of times had a hard time crawling myself out.. just wondering if you had any advice? Thanks for your time and all the videos!
@thehuntingbeast
@thehuntingbeast Жыл бұрын
I dont wear waders often... Just rubber boots. You just have to be careful and watch where you step and you will get better at it. But just know getting wet and struggling is part of it and its why others are not back there and why the bucks are...

yeah they don't get as much snow in southern UP as we get up here on the southern shore of Lake Superior. There deer numbers are much higher down there as they don't have as bad of winters. We got 325" last winter up here in Keweenaw county. between Christmas and new years we got 47" with 55 to 65 mph winds which drifted the snow big time. before this last few days of a warm up it was as deep as a 55 gallon barrel in my backyard.

@@jjmckay6man1 that's nuts! We're having a deep year so far here in MN but not like that! That's crazy deep. You could go missing along a fenceline with those inches. Step in a big drift with no snowshoes and you are gone lol.
@jjmckay6man1
@jjmckay6man1 Жыл бұрын
@@mknight6556 haha yeah snowshoes are a must during some parts of winter here. the snow will settle when you have warm ups in mid 30's like now that barrel is only half way buried but there are still drifts that are over 4 ft..lol. We don't have to much farming up here other than potatoes. the deer feed on browse and acorns pretty much like you see in the video year round. during really bad winters we can lose 30% of our herd. up here It is better to get your deer in the early archery season that starts October 1st through Nov.14th because it gets really hard most years after that to get to where the deer are haha. Late Archery season is very difficult Dec.1st through Jan.1st. Good luck to you M Knight!

Lol. Its a great tactic though. When public land hunters hear a unmuffled truck pull up in the parking lot at 630 in the morning, it dis motivates them from hunting there again. Causes them to get out of their stands early. But the Beast knows where that buck is bedded back there. He knows none of those guys are going to shoot that buck. You have to be in that specific tree when he gets up and moves from his bed. Lol I'm just kidding. Just repeating what I've heard from the Serial Killer. Dude you have to give the guy props. He gets on animals. When he shot that 4 point buck way back there in the Marsh and those duck hunters helped him get that deer out..awh yeah even though he didn't mean to shoot that smaller deer. You bring your bow when you go duck hunting with your friends.. my dad and I had the biggest buck we've seen walk right up behind us to see what we were. We rowed into a marshy point. behind us a little funnel of land between 2 marshy lakes. That deer never heard us come in. Dad went to take a leak and said he could see a deer back there just Mosing around. Loaded up our duck guns and waited. Just a cold frosty morning on November 7th in southern MN. Will never forget it. We had a perfect wind for ducks. At our backs so that old buck couldn't smell us. As we were sitting there listening to the ducks getting ready to fly. We heard thuh thump, thuh thump. Deep thumps!! my dad and I both turned around at the same time and witnessed a huge delapitated swamp buck. Smoke came out of his nostrils and he bolted back towards the area my dad saw him just walking around. His bed was in the middle of some serious thick stuff on the SE side of higher ground. Out of the NW wind.. right on the edge of the Marsh. My dad still thinks that buck was past his prime but man he was a cow and had a wicked thick non typical rack. I remember tines going in all directions.
