good lord man, I live in the south and just went and checked my billing history, the last month where I had a power bill above 1100Kwh's was August 2022 and I had like 7-800 watts continuous draw 24/7 back then because I had my computers doing crypto currency mining and running my 3 ton AC. Do you not have any insulation in your home at all? For comparison August this year was 621 Kwh's and my lowest usage month to date was end of September/early October this year coming in at 310 Kwh's over 27 days, thats my WHOLE HOUSE electricity usage with little to no AC/heat used at all, I have a gas furnace and my AVERAGE power usage for the last 12 months is 444.58 Kwh a month, how big is your house?

Thank you for this video! I was wondering how this system would be better at removing heat despite having a smaller radius of coils compared to a traditional ac system. I think the EXP is simply better at knowing when to cool vs the mechanical TXP. Not to mention the inverter vs traditional compressor. And this explains why these systems are not labeled Energy Star efficient yet other systems with comparable seer ratings are. This was very useful in helping solidify my decision for a new AC system.

I had a new system installed about 12 years ago here in Tampa. Bryant outside unit 2 1/2 ton with heat pump. I have scheduled maintenance done 2 times a year since it was new. I've had a few problems ( replaced outside fan motor and blower motor on the inside air handler unit) had a 10yr parts and labor warranty and that was covered. Now the unit is 2 years out of warranty and I've noticed the inside coils in the air handler unit are very corroded and look like they could spring a leak at any time. Having watched your videos and reading about other units on the market, I think the Daikin Fit is going to be my next unit ... when this one finally gives out as I don't want to spend huge bucks repairing an old unit. Your videos are great and really explain everything about the units, Keep up the great work and you have another Daikin Fan !!!

Awesome thanks for watching and that's great to hear! The coils can look corroded after a short period that's not abnormal at all so hopefully the coil gives you a little more life, and we love the Daikin Fit they're great and super quiet. We never get noise complaints from them and in Colorado we deal with it a lot unfortunately because of undersized ductwork and high static pressures as a result in order to achieve the airflow we need for things to run.

Just keep in mind that these systems are very complex. You have to have a proper ductwork for it. Another downside to these are if they fail you will wait for replacement parts very likely. And that usually happens in a middle of a summer. They work very well when they are installed properly and do remove humidity very well if they are set up right. I speak from experience because company I work for sells a lot of them. I am from St. Petersburg and do a lot of work in Tampa as well. I installed 15 seer carrier system in my house. Pretty simple and parts are easy to come by. Daikin air handlers are just a Goodman garbage cabinets. Condenser is just a mini split condenser pretty much. These new AC systems are not built to last anymore. Cheap ass aluminum coils and super expensive parts when out of warranty. And even when you have warranty labor and materials will make your head spin. Do your research and you will see. I been AC tech going on 14 years now

UPDATE ---- My system finally died in January and I contacted my Daikin dealer. They installed a Daiken Fit system in one day and it has been cooling since Feb. 2024. It is super quiet both inside and out and keeps my home very comfortable even set at 76-77 on the thermostat and that's with outside temps reaching the high 90's. I couldn't be happier with Daikin and the great quality products they produce.

I thought for sure the last issue would be that the system is a communicating system and requires a new special thermostat wire and a Daikin proprietary thermostat. Guess I was wrong.

The rebates issues has since been addressed in a lot of places, most communicating systems of all brands require a communicating thermostat so that’s not uncommon on inverters.

Great review of the FIT unit. I think you hit on all of the main points that make FIT a great choice for unitary installs. The only thing I'd say is some of the imagery was misleading like showing a wallmount fan coil when the FIT functions as a ducted system.

Yeah they’re great! People are definitely scared of the new tech but honestly the installs are simpler than a two stage heat pump or two stage AC and they’re quieter and more comfortable. 70% is huge!

I got a Fit after having a crap Trane in my house that was nothing but trouble. Overall happy with it. Took the company some time to get the settings figured out for humidity, etc. My electric bill did go up though not down. I figure the Trane wasn't working right for years which is why my bill was less. It really was junk. The biggest negative of the Fit was of course the cost of it.

That can happen especially if you weren’t using the system as much before or like you said it wasn’t working right. It can take a minute to get all the settings set properly for your home, that’s very true, glad it’s working better than the Trane!

@@TheHVACDopeShow It dawned on me that I forgot to mention that I actually installed a 3.5T Daikin FIT last month to replace a 25yo gas furnace, and the FIT is awesome! I can't believe how quiet it is, both inside and outside. The Daikin One Touch thermostat is perfectly fine, but Daikin's phone app is so good that I don't even bother with the actual thermostat. The multiple rebates (in our SF bay area) and tax credits made the decision a no-brainer (especially if you have or are planning on solar!!!).

It would have been nice if you could have captured and compared the Locked Rotor Amps of the Daikin and the single stage heat pump. I had to add a soft start to my single stage heat pump in order to be able to start it with my generator while one of the benefits of an inverter heat pump seems to be that they essentially have a soft start built in with their variable speeds.

The LRA is only valid on a seized compressor in a fit you’ll never see that amp draw on startup, but I can definitely review those numbers in the review. And yes the inverter board has 1000’s of MFD (microfarads) of capacitance available so it’s like a hard start / soft start kit on steroids, that’s why the amp draw is so low and how it’s able to draw so little power on startup.

I've been using and installing mini-splits since 1988. First one's I installed were in a tanning parlor. Customers were complaining about the temp in the booths so owner had me put one in every booth. Then they gave the customers use of the remote during their sessions so they could adjust to their comfort level individually. That was in Gettysburg PA. All were made by Goodman at their Houston TX plant. Not sure if Daikin is an offspring of Goodman or not but I know they do make at least some of Goodman's units today.

Goodman was bought by Daikin because they wanted their North American distribution network, they are still manufactured in Houston and now so is Daikin. Not sure if it’s the same warehouse but they have a massive facility down there and I actually got to tour it, was pretty impressive

One fluke problem so far the outside unit fan blade became loose on the motor rod and had to replace the whole unit but the part was covered under warranty. Other than that no complaints. That’s great! It’s only some utilities in the USA that are not up to par, but the tax credits are still kind of wonky here. I found out recently that several other utilities in other states don’t have this rebate issue, it’s only utility specific and varies by region, Colorado happens to have XCEL energy and they’re not really on top of it unfortunately lol

Cost always varies by contractor / location and region, but yes we can talk about it. Given a side by side in any market you'll probably pay 10-30% more when compared to a base model or 13 / 16 SEER single stage system for example. However the Daikin Fit is normally cheaper than less efficient systems like a Two Stage 16 or 18 SEER even (and in my opinion much better and quieter...)

This is a very good video, however, the zinger at the end states something that is false. It deals with the difficulty in comparing variable speed inverter drive systems to conventional systems. In this part, the presenter chalks it up to our government. This is NOT correct. AHRI is an association of manufacturers. It is completely independent from the government and is in no way, a part of the government.

Great point thank you for clarifying! Technically, they’re all connected or communicate at some level, but the rebates / bureaucracy of the IRA / product rebates is a combination of regional state and national efficiency protocols, driven in large part by legislation. Saying there’s no lobbying by manufacturers or connection between the two isn’t true, but AHRI is not a government agency, don’t know if I stated that but that was not the point I was trying to make. AHRI doesn’t set tax rebates or credits or utility rebates for example.

I purchased a 4 ton Daikin system last year, its almost been one year since our old system final went south which was a traditional central AC system. We live in SW Florida and our cooling bills in summertime were up around $500 a month plus we have a pool as well as a pool heater which also went south last year so I looked into a replacement and decided on the Daikin Fit system, we also replace the pool heat pump system with a similar type of system. I am not a HVAC guy but know a little about electricity draw and when this system was installed they changed two breakers on my AC panel, there were a pair of 60 amp 220 breakers replaced with a pair of 35 amp breakers, almost half on both the outside unit and the air handler in my attic. The same was true on the pool heater which went from 60 amps to 25 amps but all in all my electric bill is around $300 a month plus even running the new system at 73 degrees feels cooler than the old system at 70 degree's. I could have done without all this modern programing crap but its nice to sit in bed and you want it cooler you can just go to your phone and its right there. Its quite does not have the current drain on start up and ramps up n down. Years ago when I lived in up state NY I replaced the window ac's with splits which I loved and they even worked well down around 20 degree's in winter but the system for cooling always impressed the hell out of me plus they were more economical to run. The one con this fellow states in his video is no rebates with the energy commission and I gotta say that any government run commission has there heads so far up there rear end its not even funny but your rebate is in your electric bill every single month. Today I cool 2200 square feet for mush less than ever before and our rates went up again in SW Florida cause FPL is making there customers pay for all the repairs from that bad storm Ian and Joe the Boob Biden is telling Florida to suck rotten eggs cause he don't like our Governor. This is a great system and if I moved I would buy this system again!

As of now they’ve updated some of the terms (and yes the govt still has their head up their rears 😂) but it qualifies for rebates in several metros. Xcel in Colorado doesn’t, but it qualifies for a federal and state heat pump tax credit now which is encouraging that they’re finally learning how to rate these systems. The power draw you mention is substantially less and what we see here too, and thank you again for sharing your experience!

That's interesting on the diakin fit does qualify but the Gree flex does in my area for both the inflation reduction act and my local electric company even offers $250 electric credit if you install a Gree Flexx

For the Daikin fit heat pump, is there a way to adjust the fan speed? I just recently had a Daikin fit HP system, the noise level is crazy, and the fan seems running 100% full blast all the time, not really as what they claimed as a variable speed system... is that any advice?

Answered this on the other comment as well but check fan setting and/or if it’s over 100F stock it ships to run in boost mode. This can be adjust upward to 105F as a setting so that boost mode kicks in less often if you’re in a really hot climate but that’s probably what’s happening if you’re someplace like Phoenix etc

Depends on overcool settings… they run longer for efficiency purposes but will shut off based on settings. Ours has a 2 degree deadband overcool setting so it will basically cool a little past setpoint and turn on delayed by 2 degrees, this creates longer runtimes typically and even temps is the idea

I just replaced an old 13 SEER single stage unit with furnace with a 17SEER Daikin Fit Heat pump. I ran into two problems. 1) Surprisingly, there was absolutely no energy savings on my summer power bill. 2) It produces a loud buzzing noise in the wall in the winter. No real good reasons given for why the Daikin Fit wasn't more energy efficient. The manufacturer says the Daikin line sets run at higher pressures in general and especially in the winter. And this likely causes this buzzing in the walls. They suggest running the line set up the wall externally to remove the buzzing noise. Are you familiar with this issue? And will running the line set up the wall definitely remove the buzzing line set issue? Any feed back would be helpful. THANKS!!

Thanks for posting this and that is weird, Idk what the buzzing sound is from but it could be an issue with the install. If the system isn't commissioned properly (put into charge mode first - then charged to a subcool of 8 degrees) then it won't cool as efficiently... The buzzing could be vibration noises from the compressor traveling up the linset and reverberating in the wall but this is rare and I've never seen it. They should add refrigerant on startup based on line set length for anything over 15 feet. I haven't ran into this. Is there another dealer in the area that can give you a second opinion? If the buzzing is coming from vibrations in the line set from the compressor then it would probably fix the issue if you ran the line set on the exterior of the house but it's hard to say or diagnose without seeing it. Sorry you're having this experience! What part of the country are you in?

We got this AC Oct. 2022, so this is our first summer with it. I’m in TX, and as we’ve hit our 90°+ days the system is not cooling the house AT ALL. It’s constantly blowing on the low speed, and rarely kicks on to a higher speed. Today it was 100°, we have had our AC set to 68° all day, but it’s remained 80° inside. Our AC tech came and looked at everything a couple of days ago, and there is supposedly nothing broken. Why could this be happening?? 😩

Sorry to hear this, it should be ramping up and if it’s not something could be wrong in the commissioning? In the settings on the Daikin one you should be able to turn up the fan settings as well. What part of Texas? I’ll see if I can get a referral for you for tech support, sorry you’re having an issue it’s normally a commissioning issue / something being missed in the setup, unless it’s undersized for your house but if it’s never ramping up to 100%. Does the tech know the Daikin Fit well? When you commission the system you have to put it in charge mode and set the refrigerant charge at a subcool of 8 degrees… without being there it’s hard to tell but lmk what part of Texas and I’ll do what I can to coordinate with a rep and get you some help.

I live in Houston and my company installs these thing. I don't believe these units are designed to run in the Texas heat wave we are having. They are very strict on how they are installed. I have been having trouble all summer with these and they are definitely not service friendly. They can't even be close to a fence where the fan is blowing air. It causes them to overheat and power cycle. I can't stand these systems.

Can you 100 % repair a Daikin unit except the compressor with parts from a service truck. Like a standard ac unit? Or days to get a inverter board? In 105 ° summers

Inverter board is a parts house item but they’re normally in stock… if something is out of stock we get them sent next day air if it’s an emergency. But that’s not truck stock item so that is a downside but the only systems that are normally 100% stocked on trucks are single stage systems like contactors capacitors and fan motors

I think you mean the EER2 not SEER2. SEER2 is 17-18 depending on the model. It’s the inverter board pulling extra power at max capacity

@@TheHVACDopeShow Actually the Daikin Fit that was installed shows two ratings, one for cooling and the other for heat. The cooling SEER2 rating is 16.1 which shows close to the bottom of the rating (top being 42.0) The HSPF2 rating for heat is 8.1 with the top of the scale bing 14.6. While I do like my Daikin I was surprised to see both ratings towards the bottom of each scale.

My model still runs the outside unit fan even when everything is turned off (AC, heater, geofence, day/night and weekend schedule). Is this "normal"? I don't expect anything running when I put the whole system off, the company that sold me the system says "When the outdoor unit is connected to main power, the inverter control board has a small current flowing into it to be prepared for operation when needed. Due to this, the control board components have to be cooled even when the unit is not running for this cooling operation, the outdoor init fan may come on at any time, including in the winter months". Variable-Speed Heat Pump: DZ17VSA421BA, and a Multi-Speed Air-Handler: DFVE42CP0400.

“Extreme” cold VRV life is a better option, or Mitsubishi intelliheat but it depends on system sizing. How often is it below -5F (-20C) all day? The daikin fit heat pump is rated to around roughly -15C, (4F) so if you get extended periods where the HIGHS are below that (let’s say it stays below -15C for 3 months for example) then the heat pump wouldn’t really work well at all. It’s all about low ambient spec ratings. VRV life works well as low as -10F (-23 / -24 C) where at that temp it will run consistently and be able to keep up if sized for the load. Hope that helps 😁

Seems very low honestly because in our market they’re more than double that and seems to be very competitive with the competition, but that’s good for you! Not sure where you’re located but bids will vary widely because labor costs are substantially higher and lower depending on your region. Northern California for example is very high, same with Southern California, Colorado seems to be comparable with most other larger metros but it really just depends on cost of living and labor cost in your area. But I wouldn’t balk at that price by any means that seems like an excellent deal!

What part of Arizona? We’ve recently expanded to Phoenix. Market prices fluctuate quite a bit by region and contractor but we’d be happy to give you a quote if you happen to be in Phoenix metro. As a rule of thumb you can often get a better deal in the off season or shoulder season. So in Phoenix right now it’s cooling off and a lot of contractors offer shoulder season pricing, but in Denver we’re slammed because heating season just started

Thanks for your great video! I am a clueless homeowner in NorCal that needs to replace my 23 year old 3.5T Carrier (gas furnace/single stage) system. After doing my google "research" and based on your recommendation, I've decided to get a 4 ton Daikin Fit heat pump system(What a surprise, the tract builder illegally under-sized all their new constructions). I have over-producing solar panels and battery backup system so it makes sense to get rid of the gas and use that excess energy for my house heating/cooling. I've been quoted $19K for the system(I always feel like I overpaid but the company seems reliable). Install is next week. Should I be concerned that I am entirely dependent on the electricity grid and my solar panels for my heating/cooling?

I wouldn’t be concerned and that price seems very reasonable for a reputable company. I wouldn’t be worried about it since you have solar that’s the nice thing about the inverters they work very well with solar systems because they have such low amp draw and with battery backup you’re in great shape. I think you’ll be pleased and happy to get off the grid! California had very expensive energy bills this past year I heard from friends and family, not sure if that affected Northern California but I heard socal Edison bills went way up

How many amps does the Daikin Fit pull when it's running at full/max speed/output? I live in a warmer part of California where summer get to mid to high 90's and I am considering this unit, but are there really saving on the electrical side? Thank you for all of you great videos.

Glad you enjoy them! Yes it’s a significant savings because it modulates up and down. When it’s hot out it will still modulate down because once it hits setpoint it’s probably only running at 50% capacity after that or less. That’s where the savings comes in. At max capacity it’s amp draw is still lower than their single stage counterparts that’s why the breakers are smaller

Can’t comment on the install price but I would check with a dealer first. Just so you have an apples to apples quote because some dealers won’t install customer supplied equipment because of Warranty difficulty reasons… for example, if we install customer supplied equipment and found out the coil was leaking We would have to wait for them to ship a new coil which is why we don’t installed customer supplied equipment. But if you get a quote from a local dealer first, then you’ll have an idea. Depending on what part of Oregon you are in and how cold it gets, you might not need the aurora because that is for low ambient temperatures. Most of the standard ductless heat pumps keep up down to about 5° Fahrenheit without issue.

Daikin Fit pairs with CAPE or CHPE coils depending on what application you need. Furnace depend on climate you’re in, and heat pump vs straight AC. If you’re going solar and have a daikin fit heat pump I would just use an 80% backup furnace unless your someplace very cold (Minnesota and north, Canada). In these areas I’d go for a 2 stage high efficiency 96VC or 97MC (modulating). The modulating 97MC is a significant upgrade from a comfort perspective because it modulates but it really depends on your climate. If you’re in a place like Denver metro then an 80VC as backup heat with a heat pump is a great option

I need some light shed on . I bought a Daikin 2019 thru a local A/C well know company in the DFW area. Well I've kept up with maintenance routines and would say numerous teq. Well a low coolant pop on my screen thermostat. Tech guy showed up ran some test he detected a leak on lower button on the inside. Well parts and labor is covered. But not the coolant it's at 8 lb $150 per. Now is this leak the Daikin company fault cause for say a bad unit. Which theres a leak cause wear and tear or bad manufacturer. How can you help?

Hard to say without seeing it but assuming they repaired the leak things like this happen sometimes, sounds like happened just out of warranty. I’m assuming they warranted the repair but it sounds like bad luck, I’m sorry to hear that happened!

Hi. I have an Amana s-series side discharge unit. Do you know if the unit is capable of having a soft start “Micro-Aire” system installed for generator use?

I think you can use the s series on a generator out of the box because it’s an inverter. Amana is owned by Daikin and I believe the Amana is similar tech, it’s an inverter and on start up pulls very little power. Daikin fit / or the Amana S Series both pull like 200 / 300 watts on startup so it should work fine on solar or generator setups

That depends if it’s a heat pump. The one featured in this video is a straight AC but there is a fit heat pump available, and a cold weather enhanced heat pump as well

Daikin fit Gateway adapter can pair with an existing system. You need to replace the evap coil because the Fit has an EXV instead of TXV. So if you’re replacing the evap coil and it’s not separate from the electric furnace you would probably just do the air handler too, and if your existing coil is integrated with the air handler (built into the air handler) then you’d have to replace the air handler.

Thanks! This is not a mini split “ductless” which it sounds like what you’re referencing so it’s a traditional central air ducted system 😁 (meaning indoor coil and outdoor coil with ductwork like what you’re used to). So this system ties into your ducted unit. I apologize I think some of the graphics we’re confusing because they added a ductless head unit but no this is a traditional ducted system that pairs with a furnace or air handler

I am South West Florida any 2,500 sq ft ranch house with 12 foot ceilings. I am replacing an 12 year old Lennox XC21 system (3 coils later). I have been quoted a 4 ton Dakin Fit (16 Seer) and a 4 ton Train XV20 (20 Seer) with the Trane composite air handler and 15kw heat strip. Both have a 10 parts and labor warranty. The Trane system is about $2,400 more expensive. Which system do you think would be the best investment?

It’s not the brand it’s the model number and it’s location specific. It’s something we run into in Colorado because of the AHRI ratings on inverters specifically EER

Really hard to say, depends on the Region cost of living and labor costs in your area... what part of the country you are in? If you're switching out the air handler / furnace too (which normally you have to unless you're using a gateway adapter) you're going to be higher too depending on what retrofit items are needed but it's really hard to say because depending on what region / cost of living you're in it could be much higher or lower. I would say ballpark 20k including furnace / air handler, but I know companies that charge less than that and companies that charge substantially more than that. Overhead varies by region, company size etc. so it's really a wild card... and if you get a super lowball bid (something that is 50% less than two other bids / competition, too good to be true for example...) I would head for the hills, it's probably a sketchy company or one man show that doesn't know how to price themselves.

What I am really concerned with is the fact you don't actually do a true side by side comparison. Be Honest and have the condenser out in the same location and conditions as the so called lesser unit. Don't compare a (any brand) low end with the daikin high end. Love the inverter technology and the daikin seems good and is probably better than most but without an honest and true test it is just spewing company propaganda. Looking forward to finding out.

Thanks for the comment! The purpose of the video was comparing a single stage (non inverter) to a Daikin fit, to get a comparison on amperage on startup and sounds. Both systems were the same tonnage. You can always spin the data however you want but if I was trying to spew propaganda I would have compared a 1.5 ton Fit to a 5 ton single stage system. The mitsubishi intelliheat for example is a great side discharge heat pump similar to the Daikin Fit, better low ambient ratings, and also has a super low amp draw. I made this video originally for Xcel energy because they won't give rebates on Daikin Fit's but they will on a junk single stage system and I showed them that their policy was counterproductive and essentially putting more stress on the grid. Will be doing more head to head videos of similar class systems and comparing pros and cons. I don't like the Daikin One thermostat as much I think it's a little overpriced to be quite frank, but for the price point the Daikin Fit is a great bang for your buck, as well as the Mitsubishi intelliheat I like as well.
