A mate of mine who went through SAS selection told me that during the 36 hour resistance to integration one on the methods was putting them into small metal boxes where they could only just fit and then the DI would continuously slam a chain on the box to try and break them. He told me that it might go on for only a few minutes at a time and the difference between SAS selection and this is that you know that you have a finish point but even with that the only time he was close to breaking in the whole 6 months of the selection process was when he was put in this box. It must be absolutely horrific

All methods used are torture, the difference is on paper. The point of it is to punish the enemies of America and if you look at the comments under the video you will see that deep down most Americans understand and still like it. The question is how to justify it without being as rotten as the enemy.
@boydrobertson2362

The difference is that it isn't acute, its chronic physical torture. Beatings and bludgeoning, burning and branding, those are acute and instantaneous damage, those do not work. Physical pain that takes days, weeks, and months to manifest is effective.

The CIA concluded that torture isn't a reliable way to collect information... so it continued torturing detainees but in a way that doesn't leave permanent physical damage. Asking for logic is too much when someone is determined to commit a crime against humanity.

The purpose of torture is not to gather information, the purpose of torture is torture. The purpose is to punish the enemies of America, and that is quite enough to justify it. However, not if you want to present yourself as a morally superior nation fighting against the savage fanatics.

I feel like mental torture would be as bad a physical in a way it could possibly break you mentally and idt there’s any coming back if or when you get out, could you imagine being shoved in a box and you can’t move for a full 24 hrs would be 100% maddening. Depending on what is happening at the time, is doing this stuff to a person that’s like a child killer or something real bad and there’s a chance to save a kid or something along those line then ok maybe some stuff like this wouldn’t be as bad. But holy sh A lot of the folks that had to deal with this and had potential not done nothing wrong, yikes that’s a bad look on the USA but I’m sure when people get a lil power over someone or others it’s amazing what people can change into.

We have to be better, or we are worse. It shouldn't be a race to the bottom. We are either better, or we are only worse. I'm sorry, I just don't believe in deep torture, maybe limited, but certainly not working a guy over for years, simply because he might just know something. I'm not that kind of man, I wouldn't want my children to be, and neither should some guys in a black, off coast torture bunk in the jungle be. It not who we as a bastion of the civilized world, should be. We are just better than that, and if that costs us something, than so be it. There has to be limits, I don't want a government that conducts itself implementing torture like Saddam Housean...Where does it end ? How would you like to have your nuts electrified, and your toes pulled out, by some guy who thinks you might " just know something " I'm not a bleeding heart liberal, I'm just not someone who wants any part of a society that will inflict unmitigated pain and terror on an individual, just because they might perhaps know something. As an American Christian, I am better than that, and I hope you are too, or I don't want you living in my country. Christ teaches us better than that.

When the pics and info were leaked about the disgusting torture and humiliation and executions of captives held at Abu Ghraib prison, it was spun as just some bad apples of the bunch who took pleasure in the pain of others. Some lower down in the pecking order were thrown under the bus to hide the fact that this came from MUCH higher up the ladder. A lot is left out of this video, like the fact that this and much worse was done and still is, but I understand the restrictions of the platform would prevent much more than this.
