I’ve always admired guerrilla tactics. It demonstrates just how effective a smaller force can be against a larger enemy. And the enemy never being able to see it coming as said smaller force vanishes into thin air. The more the conventional force takes, the higher chances of it being demoralized to breaking point. All while the irregulars grow stronger with the free equipment gathered. It plays most commonly with rebellions as the increased guerrilla actions can bring the populace to their side; into total revolution. Sun Tzu, your genius surpassed your own time.

In both wars the superpowers were not throwing everything they had into the war. The American revolution was not a popular war in England at the time and the crown had more pressing issues at the time. The United states was winning vietnam however due to the unpopularity of the war at home it was decided to pull our forces out.

It’s funny how this type of warfare seems to work against far more superior opponents. An example is the USA. And hey, if you’re military strength is inferior, it’s the only option you got. You fight face to face you’ll be done. During the American revolution the British were a world power. The Americans used guerrilla tactics and gained independence forming the USA. 200 years later the Vietnamese would use guerrilla against America, a world power, and managed to unite Vietnam.
@wowbruh2511
@wowbruh2511 5 жыл бұрын
Morgan W Rees yes that is true. USA probably would have won if they had kept going. But Vietnam still technically won the war, so I’d say it did work. I mean if they faced face to face, the USA would have won the entire war in like weeks.

@@trashaimgamer7822 not necessarily, it is much much easier to do guerrilla warfare at home because your troops would know the land and terrain better and you would have more control and time to build tunnel networks, secret pathways in the woods, hidden weapons plants etc. and you have constant access to towns and cities that are yours to reinforce from, but it is not impossible to do guerrilla invasion, Normandy is an exceptional example of this, but even that was invading occupied allied lands with the populations' support, probably the closest example of this kind of invasion strategy would be the Japanese tactics that combined siege warfare with blitzkrieg to rapidly take mostly defenseless islands and colonies and then quickly fortify them to hold with guerrilla tactics, but this eventually failed due to lack of weapons infrastructure and reinforcements.

1:38 - Infographics forgot that during that time the weapons weren't very accurate due to the lack of rifling so bullets wouldn't fly straight. That's why we see large formations of soldiers shooting in line to increase the chances of hitting the enemy. Muskets during that time AFAIK had an effective range of 50 meters, beyond that it would be hard to hit with precision

The minutemen despite their effectiveness were actually an incredibly small part of the overall American army, which did use traditional warfare like the British. And they were known for being extremely difficult as well because they normally weren't paid or properly enlisted. Which meant they sometimes 'deserted' and simply left when they felt like it, or when they refused to fight when too far away from home. And don't forget when the British routed, they were followed the whole time without putting up major resistance. Often, most of the casualties in battle are actually during the route.

Democratic systems do not work well and even worst having nearly 30 different countries trying to run a international military is even more troublesome. I still don't understand your question. Like why does democracy or socialism are terrible or why does socialism leaves a country in ruin much less run a long term war. Infact it's because of the socialism is what made the soviet union fall, all the Americans had to do to win the cold war against them was to out spend them.

Another interesting fact is that near the end of the Civil War, when it became clear that the Confederacy would fall and the conventional war against the Union Army was a lost cause, some southerners urged General Lee to organize a larger guerilla-syle resistance to the North. But Lee new the war was lost, and wanted the South and country as a whole to heal from the war.

Shivaji was the pioneer of the guerilla warfare. At a time when armies were supposed to meet and fight face-to-face, Shivaji adopted a subtle, yet deadly strategy to get the better of his enemies - the guerilla warfare or Gamini Kawa in Marathi.

To the guerilla there are 3 objectives 1. Convince the populace to support you 2. Only fight if you can win 3. Maintain clear and concise objectives Anything that furthers those objectives is fair game The counter insurgent has 3 objectives 1. Convince the populace to support you not by any means necessary but by holding yourself to the highest and strictest of standards when conducting yourself in dealings with the populace 2. Limit the guerilla capability to amass strength 3. Maintain clear and concise objectives and conduct operations to further those objectives At least that’s my limited understanding

Would love if you guys made a video about the Boer war. It absolutely embarrassed the British military since the Boers were very effective fighters. The modern commandos is actually the derivative of the Boer Kommandos who captured Winston Churchill back in his day in service. Churchill was so impressed with the Kommandos that he helped create the unit in the British military of WW1

KLA Kosovo Liberation Army(Ethnic Albanians) was a guerilla group who fought yougoslavic regime for about 10 years, they were so strong headed and strong fighters but primitive armored. There are battles who were 2000 serbian (yougoslav) organized advanced military vs 150 KLA fighters where the KLA guerillas won the battle with tactics and there are facts told by KLA soldiers itself, but in the otherside serbia still on their war comand reports has as writted from their soldiers that there were more than 4000 KLA fighters because its impossible 150 to fight that hardly against them, and they dont believe that to this day! Thats the heart of a organized guerilla by the people and the die or live free spirit

The Finnish defence forces doctrine is largely based on guerrilla warfare despite being a modern armed force. Guerrilla tactics were used heavily on ww2 also against overwhelming enemy, successfully. As a small nation, Finland's only reasonable means of defence is guerrilla tactics and using terrain, weather, etc. to it's advantage.
