As a woman, I would never stay alone anywhere where just myself and a man (one I don’t know) are present. Janet Leigh may have had a false sense that she was not alone with Norman because of the belief that his mother was present in the main house. Nevertheless, Janet was alone with him at the motel part of that property. That is something I would never do. This movie depicts how there can be a maniac anywhere. So be on guard and don’t get into situations where a possible maniac has access to you.

Well, hang on a second. You asked if WE could survive an encounter with Bates, not this random character. This guy's gonna get eaten alive. I, myself, have a CCW permit and a .45 revolver, and I'm a professional animal behaviorist and train bitework and personal protection K9s as a side gig, so my personal working K9 partner accompanies me everywhere. I'm only 5'1" and 100 lbs, but I think I'd have pretty good chances. My dog won't let anyone in the room without going through him, which would eliminate the element of surprise and allow me to arm myself. After that, he's easy pickings.
