Absolutely beautiful end results on the painting part, and building too don't get me wrong, after the tribulations that stopped me completing mine. Beautiful result.

Well done, would love to do as good a job as you have. Just one thing, any chance of the text info (paint colours etc) being on screen a bit longer as I find myself rewinding a lot. Having said that I do like your speeded up filming, great fun to watch, cheers

What a lovely paint job and superb weathering you have done on the Meteor. It actually looks just like a real plane and shows just how good a job can be done with the right skills and tools, well done my friend.

Joe's Model Kits reminds me of the many Meteors under tarps and sitting on the sidelines of the Yorkshire air museum. Faded but still got their old glory. Half of them can still run, the old Centrifugal turbojets are so reliable.

Personally I would have spent a little more time eliminating the fuselage join line given that it's a monotone paint job. But it's your project and if you're happy with it, then that's all that is important.

The plane was overall natural finish. Why did you use black basing on the underside with marbling, but used pre-shading on the upper surfaces?
@theinnernerd26038 жыл бұрын
I used black basing on the underside to create a more weathered and mottled effect whereas the top would be less weathered, meaning a smoother effect on the paint surface. I used pre shading to achieve it
@ianjackson75156 жыл бұрын
They weren't natural metal finish - it was a silver lacquer called 'High Speed Silver'.

I'll have to try to find picture of my uncle next to his Meteor to see which colour he had. Think it was silver. He stayed in RAF after WW2

Hey I have a question about airbrushing. Do you need to do like layers with brush painting or can u just do 1 layer
@TheInnerNerd6 жыл бұрын
You need to do around 3 layers (depending on paint thickness). I start with a "dust" coat to lay the colour coat down initially, then followed by 2 more slightly heavier coats to get the colour to build up. The paint I use is moderately thinned to be accepted through an airbrush for reference. Around a 60:40 Paint:Thinner Mix

Great build, What white primer did you use on the model?
@TheInnerNerd7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daz85UK. I used regular acrylic aerosol can from a DIY store. I dont do this method before as I can get a better finish using my airbrush and Tamiya paints
@Daz85UK7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. One other question, do you use a matt coat to finish the model? If so what one do you use?
@TheInnerNerd7 жыл бұрын
Daz85UK No problem. Yes I use a mix of Humbrol Gloss & Matte clear to get a satin/matte finish. Pure matte seems to make the model white so the gloss takes this away. A mix of around 70:30 gloss:matte if it helps

I am an OLD kit collector, (and builder), and I wonder: does anibody stil use painting brushes??? When I started, (1957/58), there where NOT aerographs, and I did EVERITHING with brushes!!! Even today, (and I have several aerographs), I dont use them to paint, for exemple, cockpit interiors!! I do it with painting brushes, and trying to have a steady hand!!! I only use the aerographs for larger surfaces . I can not imagine all the trouble of CONSTANTLY have to clean those aerographs, if you use them constantly!!! No great art in that!!!
@TheInnerNerd7 жыл бұрын
A Rodrigues I do use a brush where possible, you are right cleaning them out all the time is very annoying! I try to manage my paint sequence so I spray multiple parts the same colour simultaneously. The order of the video isn't necessarily the order I made it in 😉. Painting by airbrush is an art I use to achieve smoother paint results
@redbank4937 жыл бұрын
I still use brush
@christophermathews57147 жыл бұрын
I found switching to Air "brushes" seamless, don't get me wrong. I still hand brush details. but I think in todays multimedia kits, I think you will find air brushing has become the new norm.

Poor.
@TheInnerNerd5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you think that. Airfix didn't do a great job on this one on terms of fitment of the smaller parts so was a difficult build. I hope you can join me for my latest bare-metal effect airframe with Airfix's 1/48 Spitfire FR Mk XIV in the future. Thanks for watching

Loved your build although myself I would have spent more time on puttying and Sanding the fuselage and wing seams . It would have turned it from a great build to an outstanding build . The weathering was outstanding
