Major route planning improvements in this October update compared to earlier releases. Remember it wasn't long ago they did not have multi-charger stops planning for your route, now they are giving us real-time plug availability at each recommended stop in the route planner. Hope they continue to rapidly improve it further.

I think setting lower arrival SoC and a manual pre-condition button (so you don’t need to use the built-in nav) are the only two real outstanding features they need to add.

Manual pre-condition came live with the 2023 Kona. Unfortunately, Hyundai seems really bad at getting new features on older models.

I would add "ignoring the DC charging limit during trip planning" to that. If the car ist planning a route, it would be totally fine If at one stop it just charges to lets say 70 and at another one to 95 depending on availability, route etc. Sticking to the set % which really is for battery health when leaving the car at this percentage for longer doesn't make sense.

Looks like the route logic is doing the following: 1. Find the farthest charger you can make within a certain buffer. 2. Charge to your DC limit. This isn’t great for route efficiency… 3. Find the next charger within the new range. 4. Repeat.

@@TheIoniqGuy I skipped one between Statesville NC and Fincastle VA. The thing wanted me to stop at a Circle K for a fill up between the EA stations. I made it to Fincastle with less than 10%, which was fine but slightly sweaty palms at 12:30am after driving for 7-8 hours. Definitely would like to know if it will guide you down to 10% SOC (agree we need to be able to select that low SOC). If you skip the 30% SOC charger it planned what do you need to do to continue to the final destination? Can you delete the 30% charge stop? Would it automatically add in another charging stop if you couldn’t make it to the second charger it had pre-planned after passing the 30% SOC stop? Is it faster to reload the route once past that 30%SOC stop? Looks like it has potential but I’m with you. I can charge 0% to 82% in 22 minutes but anything over that appears to be programmed to ramp down after a minute or two pause. I’d like to see that SOC limit scale set by 5% increments to use those last 3% to cabin condition and cool the system. 13:18

@ah3968 Жыл бұрын
Well - it worked fairly well. On my very first day though it wasn’t working at all. Took me a minute to realize the whole system was broken. Only day I had to use ABRP - still the battery preconditioning helped with plugging in the charging stops. Day 2/3 just used the on board navigation- I did modify once as I was stuck charging at a traffic jammed and 2 broken - 1 derated and one fully functioning stop - left as soon as I could get to next stop to free charger and also didn’t want to be there charging slowly. Didn’t need preconditioning as I was in warm CA by that time. Used a lot of stops that I remember from last year with ABRP - so went smoothly. Used again just on board all the way back. Preconditioning was clutch once I hit N. CA at night. Again similar stations as with ABRP last year - though first stop the side info window with the waypoint charging info was different from the directions which led me to a closer station with fairly high charge - didn’t realize without my coffee until later. I did go against its recommendation for a further charger - had to be a little conservative with speed as it was cold and needed preconditioning. I wasn’t sure if it would stop preconditioning under 20% or just needed to get it started by 20%. It did indeed stop preconditioning at 19% about 10 minutes out so my battery was slightly cold on arrival but nothing near like it was last year. All in all worked pretty well. Does sometimes get a bit wonky. On last stretch home had more than plenty to get home but it kept vacillating between wanting me to charge and being like nah it’s fine. EA while still needing to improve a lot was definitely doing better than last year. I think Hyundai could certainly tweak it more - especially not stopping preconditioning under 20%. But good B - attempt IMO. I hit max charge twice on this trip which still has a lot to improve on. That was mostly EA issues. But prior to this trip since Feb of 2022 I have achieved max charge exactly once. If you think EA is bad - definitely don’t come to Canada. Oh vey! 🤦♀️

I'm surprised the trip planner is always charging up to a specified state of charge. It makes no sense to charge more than necessary to arrive at the next stop with a suitable safety margin. Sure, people can debate the best safety margin, but I'd expect it to pick something conservative like 15 or 20% and go with it. That said, at least it's doing trip planning and battery preconditioning. Charging speed is on point. Gotta give Hyundai credit for that!

the nav/route planning stuff doesn't really apply to me, but the #1 feature i'd like added in the future is an easier way to start battery pre-conditioning. it's such a pain to HAVE to use the built-in nav to trigger it. hopefully they'll figure something out for that functionality in the future!
@SkaBob Жыл бұрын
I agree, they make it overly difficult to need to goto the nav then find a charging station and create a route to go there. Much easier (and safer) to just have 1 click to turn on pre conditioning when you know you will be charging soon. But they still haven't got pre conditioning to work on mine, it's been updated and they said battery conditioning was verified but there is no option to enable it, it only has Winter Mode. I did a long trip, around 3000 miles through Europe, with the earlier version, without the percentage display. It was exactly the same. It calculated the percentage in the background without showing you. Since everybody was wailing for that for some reason, they added it. Should have been easy enough to do, too. However, I don't know if they alteady included weather and topographic information in their calculation. It's obvious they want you to go to a charger between 15 and 25%, because they don't precondition the battery below 20%. It doesn't matter that much, because a) the car will hold the peak longer if you plug in earlyer, so you don't really loose time, and b) if you know you can get to a charger further down the road, you can simply keep driving and the route planner will adjust it's routing accordingly.

For instance, for me, in Houston, if I plan a trip to San Diego I would like to know what they have instore for me way beyond just the first four charging stops. So, I still have to do more pre-planning than what Tesla travelers have to do. Also, not much in the way of selecting other routes if you don't like the one Hyundai chooses for you. I guess you just starting driving the route you want and see how the route planner recalculates for you. And hope for the best.

They forgot a feature in the NAV to tell you how many freebies are hogging the chargers going to 100% because the manufacturer did the bad thing of offering 3yrs of free charging something Tom Moloughney has a entire rant video about and I totally agree with. Until there is multiple providers with multiple sites with many many chargers per site all highly reliable but even then I would rather them only offer a limited amount of free charging(eg: 100kWh) or discounted charging but not free for 3yrs.

I agree completely with both you and Tom. I'd be more on board with the promotion if it were a fixed amount of kWh like how Kia has done it with the EV6. I believe they get 1000 kWh which could last someone a long time if they're saving it for the occassional road trip but unlimited is out of hand.

From what I can tell Hyundai botched the update either for MY23 or possibly for limited trim? I've double checked that I downloaded and installed the correct update. There is a separate one for MY23 and MY22. Basically the only 2 options. However I and others have completely different results. I'm willing to bet that those of you that don't have the tow info, hyundai pay is not erroring out and have issues with charging station info in split screen and in general are either on a 23 or a limited for either year. I'm betting all '23s will be like mine and the '22s will be like Corbins? Hopefully this all gets sorted out with a new update. Maybe they will pull it and re-post like thy did with the April/May update. Or maybe it will get sorted OTA? I only downloaded for the volume adjustment, but rethinking now I don't like either way it was. A middle of the road fix like 20=old 35-40 rather than 10. That would be more inline with other cars and head units I've had in the past. However not may of those go all the way to 75 or whatever the top is. For fear of blowing another woofer I'm not pushing it that far. I blew a Rockford Fosgate woofer in a 2-way. I ended up going back to stock since the aftermarket speakers and woofer blow made the sound system and then entire car infotainment go completely nutso. The system does have a ton of power and I don't get how the stock speakers survive the volumes and tone control most people throw at it. Unlike anything I have experienced before. Not planning any long road trips esp. with Winter setting in soon so most of the updates are a yawn for me.

They don’t tell us in advance. You just have to check. I looked at the past update for Kia and Europe was a few weeks behind.

10:48 I think Tesla tells you to charge from 42% to 74% at this stop, instead of the maximum. And I have a huntch and I'll watch the rest of the video for the reason. 11:30 Edit: I think it's a bug or not refreshed to show non EA ones?

I think this is awesome, especially the arrival battery %, % leaving and state of charge with time, like a Tesla, way to go Hyundai!

Very helpful, as usual. Is it possible to have the dealer install the update? MANY people will find the USB method beyond their ability.

The dealerships pretty much always refuse to install navigation updates. Those folks will likely just have to wait for the over the air update to arrive

The Canadian version only indicates the navigation update. I was looking forward to the audio update too but will be OK with the changes to the navigation software.

I have a 2023 Kia Soul EV here in Canada (not sold in the US). Our screens looks similar to what you’re showing on the Ioniq 5. The last update was supposed to add battery preconditioning for us but I still to this day cannot find it in my settings. All I see is “Winter Mode” but no mention of battery preconditioning and even if I turn on Winter Mode, my Kia Connect app still says “battery preconditioning is off.” Nobody, not even my Kia dealer, seems to be able to figure this out. I hope this newest update gives me that option because having just done a road trip for Canadian Thanksgiving, I couldn’t tell if my battery was getting warmed for faster charging. The weather was chilly & the charging sessions definitely seemed longer than usual. Anybody with a 2023 Kia Soul EV who’s reading this comment, would love your insight if you have any to share!

is there any Radio update covered by TSB? my dealership mentioned this to me to solve the buggy CarPlay. Thank you!

The updates are pretty cool. Can’t wait to get the update. Does the battery percentage decline or increase as you drive?

I ment this for the top of the thread. Would you mind posting a screen shot of your update screen that shows all the versions? I looked for that in the video but did not find it. My hundai pay is not erroring out but like a couple others I don't have the towing option or info and as I mentioned I'm also having the charging station details issue in split screen. Im guessing there are some issues between the MYs and trims? Mine is a mid-23 limited US.

I am waiting for them to update my kona electric, but in Europe I don't see a new update for the ioniq5 either, latest ist June 2023. By the way, it triggered me a little that you never used the options button with the navigation.

Personnaly I would like to see the following updates. 1. allow you to have the option to have your rear camera on when driving. Takes the place of having no rear window wiper. 2. allow bluetooth to operate Apple Carplay without having to plug it in.
@Dreadpirateflappy Жыл бұрын
regarding no.1 you can't do that? I can do that in Europe. I have the rear camera on constantly. it's a great feature. you can also have the top down view on while driving which is ... pointless but a great gimmick. looks like you are driving in GTA1,
@terrencecaldwell73739 ай бұрын
No we can’t do that in the US. That sucks! Unless I’m just not knowing how to do it.

I find the Hyundai map unusable because it doesn’t identify cross streets far enough ahead of time. Also fonts for streets are too small so hard to read while driving. I end up using Apple maps or Google maps.

Does the trailer setting only come up if you have a hitch? I know you installed your after market. So wondering why you had that setting? We have a 2022 SEL with no hitch.

You forgot the roll up the windows when entering a tunnel option. Maybe that's been added recently. Just updated via USB to get the new sound level. That was bugging me bad esp if you put aftermarket speakers in that are not as efficient. Forgot to check that all the other options made it to my car.
@TheIoniqGuy Жыл бұрын
It's not included for gen5w systems that we have. That feature is only on CCNC systems in the newest cars from Hyundai.
@BarryBryson-h4w Жыл бұрын
@@TheIoniqGuy that is odd since it's highlighted in the update when you download, before the install and after and even mentioned in the info on the car what's new. I'm also having the activate bluelink to see details on charging stations. Nothing wrong with bl on my car except for it's always said activated with a expire date of the day I purchased. Which I find odd but Hyundai claims it's not an issue. I wonder if I and other downloaded the wrong update or the updater has an issue? However I would expect the car to not take an update not intended for it. This time I did the manual update with a 1tb hard drive since the largest flash I have is 32. The other 2 updates have been OTA. The April/June one I got the day I drove the car home and another in July.

Is route planing still active ? I am in canada, when i bought my 2024 2 week ago, i had route planning with charging station. After i install a firmware upgrade for 2023 (2024 not in the menu) with USB drive, i seem to has lost route planning, the navigation do not ask anymore for charger.
