The photo of the two children are the Navratil brothers. Their father was kidnapping the two boys for a better life in America. Michele Navratil spoke of his anxiety from being separated from his mother. He did not understand the Titanic was going to sink. His father put the two boys into a lifeboat. He remembered the moment the lifeboat was lowered, and the splashes of people in the water. The two boys became known as the orphans of the Titanic.

The lyrics “Roll on titanic roll, into the mists of time!” Really hit me hard. I have been fascinated in the titanic since I was three. To me, the lyrics mean that slowly Titanic is being forgotten, fading away into the Mists of Time. With it, hundreds of 3rd class passengers, a good handful not documented using their real names. I myself will never forgot this and I feel like this really shows titanic in its glory and tragedy.

The Titanic was supossed to be unsinkable just like the Zepplin. These poor souls. Stories of the crew who took the lifeboats first then the first class passengers. Sad. Most of the bodies are buried in Halifax.

DID you know... Morgan Robertson's 1898 novel "Futility", published 14 years before the Titanic's maiden voyage, features a huge ship that's been dubbed "unsinkable," named "the Titan," and which hits an iceberg on its starboard side on an April night in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, going down despite its unsinkability… with several rich men on board. Also, The Titan is ill equipped to deal with an emergency scenario due to lack of lifeboats, just like the real Titanic, and the ships' size, speed and water displacement all closely match.

"And fifteen hundred and seventeen souls went to their watery graves" An anecdote: One of those souls was my great-great- granduncle, Servando Ovies. He was the manager of El Palacio de Cristal, a big store in La Habana where clothes and fabrics were sold. After finishing a business trip to Paris, he went to Avilés, a city in Asturias, in the north of Spain, in order to visit his mother, Carmen Rodríguez-Maribona, and then, he decided to return to New York, where he would later take a ship to La Habana. Servando took the Titanic at Cherburg and he would be on cabin D-43. He could not get to New York nor La Habana. RIP.

Listening to this makes me hope somebody, 70 years from now, will write a 100-year anniversary tribute for the victims of MS Estonia. That ferry is known as the Titanic of the Baltic; when it sank in 1994, it took down 852 people with it. Only 137 people of 982 survived, and the youngest survivor was 12 (all children younger than that died, including a 3-month-old baby). It also sank fast, taking only 30 minutes. When nearby ferries arrived to help, the witnesses saw two bodies in life jackets float by... an adult and a child, side by side.

Love this tribute--I had the honor of portraying Mrs. Ida Straus (the German Jewish-American wife of Macy's owner Isador Straus, who refused to leave her husband's side for a seat in a lifeboat) in a community theatre production of the musical Titanic in 2012 -- their stories still bring shivers & tears, and your Irish music reinforces the poignancy of their fates. Well done, Rovers, thank you.

Every time I hear this song I swear I can feel the pride and despair of the people. The pride of every man and woman to be on and have worked on the "Queen of the Seas"; then the tragic despair of those that saw their lives, and the Titanic, be eaten up by the sea. I love music that regales history or lore, it never fails to remind me that there is still life no matter how long it's been or how long it will be. Every song echoes an era, a year, a month, a day or even a single moment where everything came to a singular point and became the inspiration for a song. Although very few can say "I was alive for the Titanic sinking" and even fewer can say "I remember when the Titanic sank", this song makes me feel as though I was one the proud people to waive off the Titanic from port and one of the poor souls to rest with the ship in the ocean. Kind fate to the Rovers and a stout for Millar who could make such music for decades and give me the pride of the past.

Here’s a song about the Britannic that I made (Verse 1) In the misty isles of Britannia's grace, A tale unfolds, a ship to embrace. The Britannic, noble on the sea, Sailing proud, her spirit running free. (Chorus) Oh Britannic, ship of grand design, Through the waves, your story intertwine. Irish winds, a melody so true, In the heart of the ocean, we sail with you. (Verse 2) From Belfast's shores, she set her sail, A journey epic, an adventurous tale. Majestic vessel, with purpose and might, Through the Irish Sea, dancing in the night. (Chorus) Oh Britannic, ship of grand design, Through the waves, your story intertwine. Irish winds, a melody so true, In the heart of the ocean, we sail with you. (Bridge) On the waves of fate, she met her call, A destiny written, to rise or fall. Yet in the echoes of her maritime song, The Britannic's spirit forever strong. (Verse 3) In Irish waters, her legend lives, Among the tales the ocean gives. So sing along with the Irish breeze, To the Britannic, across the seas. (Chorus) Oh Britannic, ship of grand design, Through the waves, your story intertwine. Irish winds, a melody so true, In the heart of the ocean, we sail with you.

2:58-3:20: There are many myths about our favourite (British spelling will be used) doomed ocean liner that refuse to die. One of them is that she was trying for the Blue Riband. She was not. Brute Ismay (being an adult male, he should have gone down with the ship, particularly as he was the person who let her sail with inadequate lifeboats. Had there been lifeboats for all, Captain Smith may well have ordered a lifeboat drill) knew there was no way Titanic could outrun the Mauretania. After all, on our ships, we will give the traveller a voyage to savour and relish. The policy of luxury and size over pure speed would prove to be very wise. RMS Mauretania would douse her blue uniformed captain more than once in her career because she was so fine lined. Titanic may well have been (and very likely was) trying to make a faster passage than her sister Olympic. This would have been perfectly in line with Brute Ismay's plan. We will not try to outrun Cunard, but each of our three new ships will be larger, faster, and more luxurious than the previous. RMS Titanic DID indeed go down in history, but not exactly as shipbuilder or shipowner had planned... There is no doubt Gigantic (renamed Britannic after Titanic's loss) would have been the best of the three-and the fastest-had she not been mined in the Aegean in World War I. Had all three sister ships survived WWI, White Star might not have stolen the last of the "Ballin Trio," the Bismarck. What would have happened to her? BTW, Clive Palmer's project for Titanic 2 has officially been abandoned. Fortunately, there will be no Titanic 2 ship. I have always thought the idea of a second Titanic to be highly disrespectful to those who died that horrible night. The Chinese replica at least will not be a ship because she will not sail. Is George Millar any relation to Thomas Millar, one of Titanic's victims? I await your comments...

This is sweet. A very fitting tribute to a very sad story. I love how you play "Nearer My God To Thee" in the beginning, which, of course, was the final tune that the ship's band played as she went down. I watched the credits, but I'm still curious as to where the music came from. Was it written for this song or was it based on an older song? It sounds like it was based on an older Irish tune! I'm well aware that it is very possible to write in the style of folk music to the point where it's next to impossible to tell the difference between something written recently and something written over a hundred years ago. Very well done! Thanks for posting this great video! I had no idea The Irish Rovers were still making music together! I'm glad you are!
@NYCentralSpotter10709 жыл бұрын
spy4863 Some argue whether or not the band really played "Nearer, My God to Thee" as the ship went down. For instance, Harold Bride claimed that he heard the song "Autumn" before the boat sank. It is considered Bride either meant the hymn tune known as "Autumn" or the tune of the then-popular waltz "Songe d'Automne" but neither was in the White Star Line's songbook for the band.

Love the pictures!! My Grandfather and Great Grandfather were carpenters on this great ship and I look and wonder, if they are among the workers shown in these pictures

Jennifer, the video producer was on the search for the photos for a long time. Many we hadn't seen before either. Wouldn't it be something if your relatives are in there - likely they are.

Reminiscence of the TITANIC and the fallen on 108th Anniversary of the shipwreck! ***Lyrics*** She was born in Belfast City, 1912 it being the year Irish pride was in the air, Their hearts were full of cheer The world stood in amazement, For they'd never seen before Such a stately queen to rule the waves, And sail from shore to shore She was the grandest of them all, Her lines were sleek and bold She sparkled like the jewels bright, A wonder to behold The gentry sailed away in style, Fine wines did freely flow While the second class in steerage were, All quartered down below Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time Well the captain said full speed ahead, We'll show the world her might So keep the boilers stoked me boys, We'll race her through the night We'll own the fastest record, For the crossing of the sea And the RMS Titanic she'll go down in history Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time On the 14th night of april When, the ship was far from land Dreams were torn asunder As, cruel fate brought down her hand Titanic struck an iceberg And, she slipped beneath the waves And fifteen hundred and seventeen souls went to their watery graves Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time A hundred years have come And gone, and still we know her name When a voyage bound for glory Turned, to tragedy and shame It's a night to be remembered, For man's own frailty When the mighty ship Titanic sank, To the bottom of the sea [Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time Roll on Titanic roll, You're the pride of the White Star Line Roll on Titanic roll, Into the mists of time] X 5
