Dominic calls in to explain his belief in God. He describes his background in Jehovah's Witness and how he came to believe God is everything in the universe. The hosts ask Dominic to clarify which God he believes in. Dominic cites mystical and paranormal ideas as his reasons for believing in a creator God.
The hosts repeatedly ask for evidence and definitions to back up Dominic's claims. Dominic avoids directly answering and the conversation grows frustrating. The hosts point out Dominic's lack of evidence and inability to stay focused on their questions. They end the call as it has become clear Dominic cannot support his claims.

I think it's because the indoctrination becomes so much a part of you and your identity that you can't even compartmentalize. You can't isolate "belief" within the timeline of your life and speak just to that because for many, believing is in every aspect of your life and what you do. Especially given kids are targeted, they grow up with these ideas stunting their thinking ability. I think that's why it's hard for people to think about and answer that question in a succint way.

When you think about it religion is often like an addiction. I was raised JW by my mother who was a drug addict, she traded the drugs for a religion that gave her a similar feeling of euphoria when she did something perceived as correct in the eyes of God, or the elders. The Jehovah's witnesses really drill into you the NEED for a God, honestly if it were not for shows like this I probably would have fell into the same shit with some other religion. Because the feelings you get from being in a cult feel good! Until they don't just like drugs...I'm grateful that I was able to find you guys, so thank you for not only helping me transition out of a cult but also stay out of another one in search for answers that I would never get.

Weve got a kingdom hall where i live in Cornwall, uk. As an atheist in no danger of being 'recruited'; I do my community a service whenever they're out and about doing housecalls, by wasting as much of their time as possible at my door. @@4Mr.Crowley2 I've noticed a real trend among Christians and Muslims in claiming that some - or often all - other religions are all monotheistic. I think they seriously over-stretch in some examples. I can almost agree when they say it regarding Hinduism, but when they start saying it regarding ancient Egypt, Amazonian tribes, Paganism etc it all gets a bit false. (Egypt did have a sort of monotheism about the sun-disk but not for long). Their motivation, typically, is to try to use slightly odd philosophical spin to claim logical proofs of one driving force, with agency and a mind, predating everything. By trying to get atheists to also agree that other religions are monotheistic, they aim to prevent the atheist challenging them with "how do you know your religion is right and xxxxxxx religion is wrong" ... as their answer then is simply "they're ultimately worshipping my god."

A lot of us (exJWs) have no issue with atheism, evolution, chemistry, etc., and among that sample I'd say you get a variety of faith-levels, so to speak. Personally, I was always very academically-minded and intelligent though, and I think that's all it really boils down to. The majority of JWs are simply unable to grasp even mildly complex concepts, because they believe they have no reason to explore science for answers, on account of their already thinking they have the ultimate answer. The result is their logic/comprehension skills never get developed, aka "that's too confusing for me, so it must be untrue", "If it was true it wouldn't need such a complicated explanation", etc

Religion uses people’s fear to control people in order to control their behavior. I had a history professor at my university who said something to me that has stuck with me since. She said, “You must have a religion in order to have a nation”. I believe this was a quote from the Roman leader prior to the Council of Nicia, where the created the Bible. She also said, “It is written, therefore it is so”. Getting into heaven is the idea that is the basis for a primal fear of death that we all have. It is a comfort to feel that life will never be over. As an atheist, I take people’s fear seriously and hope that their freedom from this fear will come to them. I do have issue with the anger Matt shows for people who aren’t there. I really do understand his frustration. If his goal is to lead people to the truth, blasting them and hanging up on them will not allow him to move them.

@@DoctorX101 Americans represent the crass end of religion, Saudi, along with such places as Afghanistan represent the intolerant and violent end of religion. It, as I said it just shows what religion is and can do. You not understanding that is somewhat irrelevant. Religion is a belief system that uses indoctrination to control its members. The problem comes when its members think indoctrination is knowledge.

If this was a casual conversation I had with a random person I met, then I would end the exchange as soon as it got to the thirteenth dimension nonsense. However this is a call-in show that is all about engaging with that kind of arguments so the hosts kind of have to sit through it, and I admire their patience.

I feel like I would have a hell of a time coming up with something that this guy would not believe. If I told him that interdimensional ham sandwich eating Pokémon type creatures are on their way here right now but it's like reversed where the Pokémon catch the humans and have the humans fight each other instead of the other way around and the way I know this is that Pokémon as a franchise has actually been a prophecy and a warning this entire time and the clues are all over in the show and little secrets on the cards if you just look hard enough and many papers have been written about it but they've all been silenced cuz the government doesn't want the secret getting out because they want to try to control the Pokémon and use them to do their bidding.... ...I feel like his answer would be "I'll start making ham sandwiches to fend them off, lock the doors."

I'm fascinated that asking the first question, and that's which god? That question always seems to befuddle a theist. As if all humans only know of one god. Even the bible acknowledges that people believe in other gods. This conversation is doomed from the start.

thad callers "research" sounds really familiar to the spirit science brand of word salat. Without understanding the difference between claims and evidence or even attempting to provide a coherent justification for their beliefs. It's both frustrating and completely incomprehensible to me how someone could come to such bizarre convictiones.

We only have one data set to go off of.. The 1 universe.. So we can't say anything about the odds of stuff that we don't have anything to compare to .. There's no shame in being raised/ taught from people that had out-dated faulty data.. It takes an honest person to admit their beliefs are based on that faulty data.. And it takes a truly honest person to admit that their beliefs were wrong because of that.. 😁☮️🌏
