Palms are the EASIEST plants to grow from seed. Forgiving, beautiful, hardy, never complain! I love them!

@@TheJames2929 I lived in El Paso for a couple years. Out front, had 2 gigantic California Fan Palms/ Washingtonia filifera--massively wide trunks and tall, over 50 year old. Provided blessed shade from their crowns and petticoats, shelter and food for lots of birds. I took seedling when I left. Keep them in pots. (they want to go in the ground but are beautiful in captivity!) Gave 2 away to my sister for the yard. All are gorgeous. So hardy! Established palms survive freezing temps!

Awesome stuff, sadly they don’t grow that fast here, since the summers are cooler, started mine around 9 months ago from seeds collected in the canaries, maybe ill have mine in the ground one day too!

what do you do to overwinter them outside, and what zone are you in? I just got 4 mexican palms in 15 gallon pots and only have space indoors for 3 of them. I'm in downtown Toronto...do you think it'd die in winter- even if I wrap the pot in a thick blanket and the leaves and stems in burlap?

How much do the root. I was wondering if I can put one of thoes around 6 feet from a pool
@TheJames292914 күн бұрын
@@shawnchaput7983 you can put it 1 foot away from the pool. If you want to they will not crack your pool. I can promise you that as long as the trunk is not going to expand and push against the pool.

@@shawnchaput7983 I should ask is the Palm tree a full-size or is it a small plant?
@TheJames292914 күн бұрын
@@shawnchaput7983 even if it’s a seedling 6 feet is tons of room. You could probably do 4 foot from the center of the seedling and that would still be lots of room.

Hi james, im from india and after watching your time lapses, i planted a whole lot of them in july 2024 and many of them have their third leaf but they have not grown interms of thickness as shown in your video. Do the palms need fertilizer in this stage?
@TheJames29293 ай бұрын
@@rocky2o914 you can fertilize them at any stage just make sure they get lots of sun and lots of fertilizer and lots of water. Just make sure not too much water. Make sure it’s good draining soil.

Fantastic James. I was in Menorca recently and lots of Washingtoniaand gathered some more seeds. In one garden there were 5 about 9ft tall max(ground to top of highest leaf) and looking really really healthy lush and green but unusually all had stunning drooping leaf tips(top 12in or so pointing down). Have been searching through books to identify the variety have you any ideas? Thank you
