I'm excited for you and your husband doing this simultaneously. Nearly 9 years ago my wife and I went vegetarian and 5 years ago we went vegan. The entire journey has been so much fun, we tried things we never thought of, it added an entirely new dimension to our relationship and lifestyles. I recently discovered Dr. Greger and told her, so here comes the next dimension of learning and we have the same print-out on our refrigerator as you do! I'm subscribing, keep posting!

I have done overnight oats. I like pumpkin spice in it. You can add apples and cinnamon. You can add pumpkin and pumpkin spice. You can add chopped up dates instead of date syrup. You can also make a savory and add minced up spinach.

I just make date syrup myself, It's really easy to blend dates when they have been soaked in hot water. I always worry with buying stuff like that, that they cook the dates on high heats and caramelise the dates plus remove a lot of the fibre, meaning it's no longer a whole food.

I make overnight oats all the time. It's probably runny because you didn't put the chia in. Chia would absorb the liquid and make it more pudding like. Your shih tzus pup is just precious! I miss my two, they are such lovable dogs! Good luck on your plant based journey! (I follow the meal plans on Clean Food Dirty Girl, btw)
@TheJaroudiFamily7 жыл бұрын
pamellaRN the recipe didn’t call for chia, I’m trying to stick as close as possible to it; I think the extra cashew milk I added kinda messed it up for liquid but I drained a bit and it turned out fine. (Next time I make it I’ll add chia)
@MermaidmomUP7 жыл бұрын
The Jaroudis at around 5:40 you said you messed up because you threw your expired chia seeds away and couldn't add them, but still had flax seed.

I cannot do cold oats. Even in the summer! I got the book as a gift, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the recipes. However I got the actual book and have been listening to a ton of nutritionfacts KZbin stuffs! I’ve been implementing the daily dozen the last couple of weeks. It’s a bit challenging-I don’t get all of them in everyday. I don’t like turmeric, so that one has been a challenge!

If you want hot/warm/cooked oats, just put the dry and liquid ingredients in a deep bowl and microwave on medium high (level 6 or 7) for 5 minutes or so. Then top with fruit. This recipe is good for Old Fashioned rolled oats and for Quick Oats. Steel cut oats and whole groats Might soften enough to eat after a week or more, but not overnight - and I wouldn't vouch for a week. :-) Not all ingredients are there for taste (ground flaxseed), but for health. Those of us with various aches and pains, inflammation, arthritis benefit greatly from just 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric daily, which can go conveniently in oatmeal (cooked or not). Turmeric does not taste good, but is outstanding for health. I never can taste the cinnamon, but put it in anyway because it has its own health benefits; just make sure it is Ceylon cinnamon. Most off the shelf cinnamon is cassia cinnamon and has detrimental effects if consumed often; sorry I can't recall what the problem is, but you can search for Ceylon cinnamon on nutritionfacts.org. Good job, Mrs. Jaroudis, especially for a first ever effort. Good way to share the knowledge.
@Titunka7 жыл бұрын
You can use just water instead of milk or less milk next time...cinnamon is good in oats too :)

I think the flax was maybe not ticked off was because the chia and flax together are supposed to count for the "nuts and seeds"? Maybe? And with one TBSP of flax split between two people, that's not meeting his Daily Dozen flaxseed serving size of one TBSP for one person (according to the recipe, since I know you added 2 TBSP). (: I don't know, that's just possibly why, I don't have the book, haha.

Don't throw out things based on the dates. Most dates on food is "best if used by". You can safely consume food after these dates if they are "best if used by". Save money!
@australorpa7 жыл бұрын
I agree! I never throw food out based on expiry dates. Whole seeds especially; nature doesn't throw all her effort away. Seeds found in thousand or more year old caches can occasionally be sprouted and grown.
