I just bought a 2001 jeep wrangler SE manual. I am a first time jeep owner and excited about exploring my new ride. It drives just like all the 2.5L owners I've seen reviews off, its little slow going up hill and does not accelerate above or drops down to average 60mph. I'm not new to manual driving, but I'm learning to not be afraid of "pushing" the RPM.

I bought my (used) Grand Cherokee around 2007 and by 2008 I had learned about the black hole: over the 4 or 5 years I had it on the road I spent more keeping on the road than it cost to buy. I loved it and I also learned about the best details only slowly but I just could not accept the ridiculous design flaws in a car built for the 21st century. I had to replace a solenoid and spent ages looking for it because the dealer wanted £400 to install this £30 item, then I found why: it was located under the battery tray, under the steel battery tray that was part of the engine bay sheet steel. They blow because they overheat, the steel inner-wheelarch onto which they are screwed should be a heatsink but it's not flat enough and the screws don't hold it down firmly. I decided I never want to replace it again so I installed it with different screws and set it into a bed of computer CPU heat sink cement and it was perfect (obviously I cut a hole in the steel under the battery to save six hours of labour and simply covered it with a hard plastic sheet). When the window in my door died I tried to replace the register only to find it had failed because the wire end block is made of plastic instead of metal so it regularly wears out and breaks, the opposite door window failed next and I found a set of aluminium replacements for $40 I could ship from the US but then I thought: If the manufacturer was so cheap that they saved pennies by making the electric windows crap than I can't trust the rest of the car so I let it drop and fail until it ran no more. The damn thing cost a fortune in petrol (4 litres isn't the engine capacity - it means you burn 4 litres of fuel every mile you drive) I had a Jaguar V12 5.3 with better mileage performance! But I loved it and thought I would wait until I found another contract where the employer paid for mileage then buy another later model but my wife decided to buy a 100% electric car and now I will never go back to fossil fuel. I would love a Tesla Model X to run the ghost of my Jeep around town and then maybe my kids would forgive me for dumping "their" Jeep!

About #4, there is a reason that "washer" cannot hold any wires. If you look next to it, you will notice two hooks. It is actually the part that tightens the battery terminal. The threaded stud they did attach the wire to does not tighten the battery terminal and is fine. While installing a $20 universal automatic door lock actuator kit for my 2013 JKU Sport (which has manual locks and windows), I disconnected the negative battery cable for safety. I got the vehicle up and running, then twice the car just "died". No lights, no ignition, nothing. I moved the connector on the negative post and found both times the connector to be loose. One could hear the crackle of electricity as it turned. So I did the old curved penny trick to give the post more girth and keep that problem from happening again. A loose ground can cause a lot of freaky things to happen electronics wise.

... I have no complains about my '92 Jeep Wrangler, it is still a car and not a Computer on 4 wheels. ... what I found out after I pulled out the glove box and all the panels surrounding it to trash it, that I have a whole lot of space behind it = room to clean up and to maintain like oiling joints, or manage wiring in a better way. I use the new room for a 2DIN dvd/cd/dvb2 tv/radio/amp system to fire up in addition to the stock 2 front speakers the self made 2 wooden speaker cabinets in the back, which I hooked up to some cheep (12.5 yard each side) supermarket speaker wire, to when I'm off road (I sleep in da car not in a hotel) I can take 2 speakers out of the car 25 yards apart and listen to rock music or so when lying on a blanket at a lake.

p. to my understanding : a firewall in a car, is just all the wall between engine room & the passengers room. That's it, with my 92' Jeep u can see it pretty clear, because it is not covered wit electronics, plastic or god knows what kind of senseless trash, it's just the god damn tin wall between 2 vital sections of the vehicle.

I scrolled down to look to see if anyone had already pointed out the obvious: all cars have a firewall between the engine compartment and the people compartment, it is a legal requirement. I thought it was kinda sweet that she didn't know but then I realised that people don't repair their own cars anymore so why would they know?
@Billy123bobzzz6 жыл бұрын
Drains? every car I have ever owned has had drain plugs under the mats/caperts. There were all sedans, none of them were for off-road use (none were 4X4). Every vehicle I have ever seen since the 1940s has a firewall, it's probably been around since the beginning of time. The Firewall is the sheetmetal that separates the engine compartment from the passenger compartment an dis what keeps you clean while you are driving and is called a firewall because i there is an engine fore, the firewall give you protection against getting burned immediately (you still have to get out and you still have o put the fire out).
@mycatsaliberal38485 жыл бұрын

These are really pretty good observations. I own a Jk and lead trails for a Wrangler club, so I see a lot of Wranglers. The older wranglers in the club, TJ's and CJ's are great vehicles because they are simple, durable and purpose built. When I compare the Jk and now the JL to older jeeps the progress is towards more complicated, less durable and worst of all, less purpose built. I fear jeep Wranglers are changing into yet another vehicle for the masses that take the kids to school and get groceries....yikes! Thats were the money is for Fiat and plays off of the street cred of the old Wranglers....
@JeepMomma6 жыл бұрын
Yeah... lot's of mini-van mom/soccer mom's are now Wrangler owners.
@jlt74386 жыл бұрын
And I'm happy to see these people buy Wrangler's, I hope they turn into offroad warriors as a result... I'm seeing Fiat change the Wrangler to an all purpose low quality vehicle from the great purpose built vehicle to attract a different kind of buyer. The jeep wrangler is the last of it's kind. Very simple, very dependable, easy DIY maintenance that the aftermarket supports.

Who cares what they do with it, they bought and paid for it so it is theirs to do with as they see fit. How many expensive sports cars that can do 180 plus do you see doing 180 plus? If everyone that owns a jeep was always on the trails you would be bitching that its too many out there.

I bought mine to just have a vehicle to tow and have fun with our RV. After asking my friends did I join some cult or something? they all laughed and said this is your new community friends!
@JeepMomma4 жыл бұрын
LOL!!! I had no idea either. The Jeep Community has saved my life... They are better and truer friends than the ones I used to have. WELCOME!!!

p.s.: to my understanding : a firewall in a car, is just all the wall between engine room & the passengers room. That's it, with my 92' Jeep u can see it pretty clear, because it is not covered wit electronics, plastic or god knows what kind of senseless trash, it's just the god damn tin wall between 2 vital sections of the vehicle.

I am so over fixing my 2001 Jeep Wrangler 2001. I have put a new transmission in and been back to the dealership 3 times. I turned my fan on a little higher this morning get out and there is My ole pile of shit leaking again. I have had the power steering worked on. Back to the dealership again Monday with this crap. I think I need to build a fire and start with my Jeep. I need help. I don’t know I may trade this crap. I will never buy another Jeep.

How can you own a 2015 Jeep for 5 years. It's 2018?
@JeepMomma6 жыл бұрын
Brian Long I didn’t say I owned my 2015 Jeep for 5 years. I said I was in my 2015 Rubicon... then said when I first bought my Jeep 5 years ago. I bought my first Jeep in 2013 then in 2014 I traded it for my 2015 Rubicon my 2nd Jeep

Let me tell you more than 5 things about my brand new shitty ass Fiat JK that had to be fixed right off the showroom floor. Pulls to the right, vibration at 40mph and up, third brake light inoperable, rear door drags on the bumper, Tire pressure sensors missing or inop, third tail light mounted crooked, but how much do you expect for $47,000???

@@JeepMomma oh...d'oh! that's my fault; i'd forgotten i'd made two separate comments 😅 ...🤔 i think the original commenter had said something about the video i'd found a tad snide, about everybody should know these things that you were presenting, and i'd responded not everybody knows even the "basics" sometimes. as in, common sense isn't always so common. youtube ( or at least the android app ) doesn't allow for direct responses to original posters anymore, for whatever reason, and i didn't feel like retyping his name at the time.

@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power Ahhhh!!! thanks so much for sticking up for me. Yeah I do get some snarky comments sometimes. You are right not everyone knows about vehicles. There are so many of my friends are clueless and I know soooo much more than them. Basics for some aren't Basics for others. :) Thanks Again! :) So what's up with the name Kodiak Wild? My guess is you are from Alaska?
