FYI - It is LAW in South Africa that if you are unhappy with your purchase of any kind - from a Car to a Pair of socks, you have 7 days to return it for a full refund. So next time when you go to a store, you MUST receive you refund immediately. Insist of this. There is no such thing of having to give your passport etc....that's nonsense,,,,as long as you have your receipt, the process should take no longer than 10 mins to get your FULL refund. There is recourse if it does not happen - contact the ombudsman and that organization will be fined.

Very true observations. Here in America we have so many convenient short cuts but I think the reason is we are usually over worked and don’t have that time to cook full meals from scratch unfortunately. So glad y’all living the soft life now!! ❤

Heard the story about you baking with lots of interest - it not that we don't have "shortcuts" in SA - it's that we are very regulated when it comes to the quality of food that retailers can provide. I will also venture to say sister, that it' you are in SA, life is NOT that stressful, you are not chasing things as you would in the USA, hence you have MORE time for family things.

I totally agree with you guys that anyone who comes to SA can drive, it's just a matter of adjustment driving the other side of the road. A couple of years ago when the rand was still favorable for us to visit the US, our family would visit every December for a month. First visits we would get an Uber, but suddenly we decided to rent a car, at first I was very nervous but it turned out to be much easier than I had expected. But I must admit there are key differences.

OK, So far as Pick n Pay is concerned, I know both malls in question. One is in Clearwater Mall and the other is in Sandton City - Here's the difference, The entire Clearwater mall has been recently re-vamped/upgraded, hence the shops in the mall would have been upgraded / modernized accordingly. Over time, the same will happen in Sandton and all the stores will have a similar look and feel.

Grocery stores are tiered I.e you get a pick n Pay family stores which is small and hyper which is big

There are debit orders (the company organises to deduct from your account) and then there are stop orders. A stop order is a recurring payment you can set up in order to pay someone (most banks should have the option of a stop order). We use mostly stop orders for our payments and there is no stress (hehehe) at the end of the month - everyone gets paid automatically. And then there are some that get paid via debit order. Nothing is done without your consent though!

The grocers are not really different but they're meant to cater for a specific market determined by the location of each outlet.A Pick n Pay Qualisave and a Pick n Pay and a Pick n Pay Hypermarket are the same brand but the products available and layout is not the same.The same goes for a Spar and a SuperSpar or a Checkers and a Checkers Hyper and the others.

Interesting fact, The ironic part is the pick n pay you are talking about in Randburg used to be better than what it is now, the shopping center is called Ferndale On Republic, It used to be called The Brightwater Commons , There was a lake there , where you probably parked your car. There was a skate park, A lot of park greenery, park benches and a stage for community public performances.. That place was my most favorite shopping center in this whole country, Imagine you step out of Pick N Pay after doing groceries and walk out to see a lake in front of you, was so tranquil .Then they removed all that other stuff just to turn it into a film studio, which i think you saw .. The community been sad since then,and this was as recent as 2017

The taxi drivers are just known law breakers but not all of them , the don't do it every time but during rush hours. Learn to patient with them 😂😂😂 they are the ones who helps many people when they get hijacked. In Jozi in Bree Street, a certain woman opened a window at the robot for a brother who pretended to be asking all of a sudden he shouted at the woman get out she got out without screaming and a taxi driver was seeing all this , he pulled out his gun and told the man to get out ,he got out and apologized other taxi drivers wanted to beat him up . When the woman was asked why she did that she said the man appeared as a beggar at first humbling himself and as soon as she opened the window he changed My advice to you is that since you said God said go to SA he wanted to teach you somethings i think one of the things is patience , so work on your patience and South Africans will test your patience because God works with both people the good and the bad .Remember Abraham had to go to Egypt twice to learn circumcision and other things he overlooked the first time he was there. Taxi drivers are also the ones who let Learners into lanes if the car is marked. They protect learner drivers when they are aware.

The biggest issue in SA is that a lot of new people are entering the 'Middle class' every year. They also start from the same point as you guys when it comes to buying a house, car, licenses, etc etc. And those that are not clued up get taken advantage of a lot, especially in vehicle purchase which is not as tightly regulated as the property market. Navigating these things is a similar pain for some South Africans as well. Anyway, the only advice I can give is that you can get between 2% and up to 20% discount if you know how to negotiate. Especially if you're buying Furniture, Appliances, Electronics, Vehicle, Equipment, Expensive Handbags etc...A lot of South Africans don't know this, I was taught this by colleagues from Durban and I've never paid 100% for anything that costs over R5k before.

Most if not all taxi drivers here don't have driver's licenses and their vehicles are not insured. They are really not worth the effort, just safely move away and avoid road rage with them because violence is their only language.
