All MSU has to do is break out “X,” and everyone but the top few DCI lines begin packing up for the night. Good grief, the Spartans are insanely good.

As someone who is another big ten schools drumline, I wish we got the attention and opportunities that these programs get. Both schools are hands down the top two lines in the Big Ten. Michigan is great but MSU is on a whole other level as far as musicality goes. Both lines are superb though

+Drwumingforweetodds msu doesn't jam through world books like its nothing lol, both are good lines with different techniques for sure but I feel like msu gets way to hyped up. I've been playing drums for about 10 years and been playing tenors for five years. This is good stuff and all but I feel like it's more crowd pleaser material rather than hard chop out excerpts.

Spartans in a landslide. M is decent, but the Spartan drum line is sharper and crisper. Their routines have a level of complexity that is on an entirely different level. The Spartan drum line has a well deserved swagger and panache that no one can hope to emulate.

Both are great. MSU takes this "battle", if for no other reason, because of ensemble. They're just SO together, musically visually, and how captivating your sense of ensemble is is at least as impressive at what you're playing. I think that UM's material might have actually been somewhat more complex and challenging, but MSU's visuals, chops, and the *complete* unity of sound was extremely impressive. Cheers all around for your tireless work and commitment.

As a Buckeye, I'm opposed to both of these schools on religious grounds. But man, these lines are good and always fun to watch at games. I got to see UM up close in '93 and they were a great group of people. Plus, those Remo Legato snares they played back then were totally cool too.

Hmmm... Can someone explain to me why MSU is better? Michigan's drumline sounds more together... I kinda like MSU's cymbals more and the drumline's performance after and before drumming more, but in terms of drumming, I feel like Michigan's sounds cleaner and better. I have no idea though, I'm not a drummer.
@aconstans939 жыл бұрын
+karatesushi MSU is playing more difficult book(music) better. The split quad passages and those singles in MSU's third piece around 4:25 don't leave much room for dirt at all, plus MSU has a better command of their dynamics. They do (in this video) have a little difficulty on the snare soli material, but some of it is ridiculous to begin with. This book is on par with any DCI level material, and the visual demand adds a new dimension of challenge on top of that.
@AngelaPredhomme7 жыл бұрын
These drumlines are both incredible, but this video is a little sped up. My daughter who is a current member of one of these bands noticed it, and she sees them perform these pieces all the time. Then we confirmed it by the people walking in the background. It's the whole video, not just one of the bands. But that's irrelevant. They are all excellent percussionists.
@Musicman17207 жыл бұрын

I too can confirm that this is, in fact, not real. I am not even sure this marching band is real.
@AngelaPredhomme7 жыл бұрын
Musicman1720 Maybe not. And I'm sure it can be easily confirmed or not by comparing bpms and length of the songs to other videos of these bands doing these songs. But I don't have time for that. You guys are great. This issue --actual or not-- is a small and insignificant technicality.
