I love metronome. It's my favorite Pokemon attack. But why does GameFreak keep ignoring it in the newest games? Today, I decided to push Metronome as far as the move could take us.

I was training a Togepi in Soul Silver, and was seeing if it could take down pokemon on its own rather than just getting exp through the exp share. First battle, metronome into Fling, and it yeeted its exp share at the enemy. I think the Togepi was telling me it was done with being babysitted.

I did this kind of thing once, in Silver; although instead of just tanking with a single Clefairy I made a full, regular team where everyone had Metronome and that was the primary move I used. I did use a GameShark to cheat a little bit, but only to let me buy enough PP Ups to max out Metronome for each of my Pokemon - every mon I used learned Metronome legitimately. I built my party up to be Machamp, Togetic, Politoed, Gengar, Golem and Hypno - 5 of whom learn the move by trading it to RBY and teaching it TM35, and then there's Togetic who learns it at level 7. My run actually went pretty good. It took a bit of grinding when my RNG wasn't so hot but I managed to beat the Elite Four & Champion with this party. I learned the same exact thing you did, too: _holy crap_ do Self-Destruct & Explosion come up a lot! Way more than any other move, it feels like. I wonder if they actually programmed it that way to keep people like us from overusing the move? Or is it maybe just unintentional cherry-picking because they're such huge-impact moves that you can't help but notice get used? I should go back to that run some day and wrap up Kanto - another thing I wanted to do was try to clear some of Stadium 2's Cups & Gym Leader Castle with this team...

TheJWittz, thank you for making this video. I’ve been waiting for someone to tackle this concept of using metronome for a while, and jeez was it a struggle. I’ve been looking for so long now for a video like this, and I can finally let it rest. This move has endured a lot of controversy, but I have always favored the move. I have even sketched out Pokémon using metronome in my art book. Some people are really flattered by the move, and some people are taunted by the move. In fact, I love the move so much people shoot me mean looks now and then for chanting about it all the time. I think it’s time for me to cut it out, and let y’all know that there’s something about this comment that you probably already catched :)
