Dude the money isn’t worth it if you’re miserable. It’s only a matter of time it spews into your family life if you really hate it. If you can see a money increase soon then you’re good. Also why not try a different sales career? Give it a shot if you just simply hate your job.

This guy should move to NY. Long Island high school PE teachers are making $125k salary with additional pay for any coaching or intramural sports. It’s like a different world out here for teachers and police.

I have a “successful” job where I make good money. I want to be an addictions counselor though and this would be a 50% pay cut. So I’m staying at the job I dislike while I pay for the graduate program. I am very afraid to make the jump but I also don’t want to spend my life in a job I can’t feel proud of. My goal is to have no debt (other than house payment) before I make the jump.

I am in this now. Very hard to be an LPC-Intern, get the hours to go unrestricted, maintain family and income requirements all within the time frame the state allows to complete your license requirements. I love counseling and want the dream. Just very hard. We are after the same goal you mentioned as well. Not certain how LCDC works, other than you can get your lcdc hours while getting your lpc hours at the same time. Hope all works out for you.

Yes my parents were teachers and they are millionaires now. They retired in their 50s and get a pension that's like 50% of their highest paid years, plus social security. It's insane! Any public sector job actually makes more than private sector in the long run, due to the huge pensions. Private sector usually is just a 401k. Pension is no guarantee but neither is the value of the 401k. No point working a job you dont like since nothing is a guarantee long term. Get your mortgage paid off (tiny house if possible since that gives low utiloty and property taxes) and enjoy your job.
